Pinepaw perked her ears up at the prospect of leading the outing. She would've thought Brightstar would've wanted to lead, since her job was the leader, but Pinepaw wasn't about to back down from a great opportunity to show off her skills.
It would occur to her after the outing that that's exactly what this had been, a planned opportunity. A test. Yet in this moment, Pinepaw thought only of impressing Brightstar and proving that she ought to be made into a warrior sooner than later.
As she padded through the entrance ( Or would it be considered an exit, now that I'm exiting from it? Pinepaw wondered.) of LightningClan's camp, she started out. She moved through the forest, aiming for the depths of the woods. Her mentor, Flamingrose, had her practicing in the forest more often than by the river and so that's where she went, feeling more comfortable there.
She turned her head, looking over her shoulder at Brightstar with a grin. "Flamingrose is a great mentor, he's teaching me how to be the best in everything." She replied. "That's what I'm aiming to be, too: the best." She went on, before turning back around to face forward. She couldn't be too loud when there might be prey around.

Pinepaw nodded when Brightstar told her to show off what she'd learned from her mentor. She turned her gaze to the trees, perking her ears forward and opened her mouth slightly. The squirrel was naturally the first thing that she got a whiff of and she flicked her tail the way Flamingrose had shown her, over and over, indicating she was going to stalk prey in this direction and to wait for her return. (It was the latter that Pinepaw always had a hard time remembering.)
Rather than padding directly towards it, however, she slipped into a cluster of bracken and disappeared. The occasional rustle would be heard and then silence. Pinepaw wasn't hunting alone, she was hunting with Brightstar. On her own, she wouldn't have been able to get the squirrel, but if she could scare it into her leader's paws, there would be food for the Clan. In the end, that's what mattered the most, especially in these times. She could show off her own hunting crouch later. She just hoped that Brightstar had stayed put as she'd requested.
With a leap, she landed neatly behind the squirrel and shot out a unsheathed cluster of claws when it tried to run the wrong way. She chased it, hoping it would run straight and by extension, straight into Brightstar.
Great StarClan, let this plan work!
caffeinecraving Sorry for the absurdly long wait! I hope you're still interested in this RP, at least to wrap it up in the next couple of posts.
