Brightstar looked at the sky through the opening of the trees. Leafbare was coming. All the warriors were out working on getting prey to fill their bellies....theirs and Rockclan. She took a deep breath and looked back to the apprentice in the clearing. She would have been given elder duty or something while their mentor was out hunting. So she flicked her tail. She found peace in the woods, so why not give herself an excuse, afterall it had been long enough to see where Pinepaw was with her training.

She jumped down from where she was sitting and plodded happily up to the apprentice, waving her tail in greeting. "Pinepaw! Want to go hunting? If you arent too busy that is!" She didnt want to tell the apprentice out right she was gonna be judging her, but she was sure the apprentice could figure that out on her own. Brightstar grinned and tipped her head before turning toward the entrance to lead her out.

Pinepaw didn't spend a lot of time socializing with other cats. There were plenty of cats in need, since LightningClan was helping RockClan. Between training with Flamingrose and doing her part to help her Clanmates and and those misplaced from their own territory. That said, she was used to going everywhere with her mentor, so when Flamingrose had been sent out hunting and she'd been left behind, it left her feeling pretty displaced. She hesitated in the clearing, before a mew from behind her caused her to spin around.

"Brightstar!" She gaped, only to straighten. A warrior wouldn't gape at their leader; she had to act more mature! "Yes, it would be my pleasure." She replied with a smile. "Shall we be off now?"

Brightstar purred with pleasure at the young cats enthusiasm! Though she would hope for no less! She could remember being an apprentice and wanting to just go all the time.

She tipped her head and gestured to the entrance. "Why not take me to one of your favorite hunting places!" Right, see if the apprentice was skilled in picking where the prey would be. It was mid morning, so the sun was rising along with the temperatures and thus the prey would be heading back to the shade of the trees, so probably out in the deeper woods would be better than say by the river where the ground would be soft and muddy, the kind of mud that pulled at paws and any prey there would be of the frogs and snakes variety.

She allowed Pine paw to lead, Not walking TOO far back but back enough to allow Pinepaw to choose the way. "Ive been noticing that you have been bringing back a lot of fresh kill! It makes me so proud to see apprentices shine."

Pinepaw perked her ears up at the prospect of leading the outing. She would've thought Brightstar would've wanted to lead, since her job was the leader, but Pinepaw wasn't about to back down from a great opportunity to show off her skills.

It would occur to her after the outing that that's exactly what this had been, a planned opportunity. A test. Yet in this moment, Pinepaw thought only of impressing Brightstar and proving that she ought to be made into a warrior sooner than later.

As she padded through the entrance ( Or would it be considered an exit, now that I'm exiting from it? Pinepaw wondered.) of LightningClan's camp, she started out. She moved through the forest, aiming for the depths of the woods. Her mentor, Flamingrose, had her practicing in the forest more often than by the river and so that's where she went, feeling more comfortable there.

She turned her head, looking over her shoulder at Brightstar with a grin.
"Flamingrose is a great mentor, he's teaching me how to be the best in everything." She replied. "That's what I'm aiming to be, too: the best." She went on, before turning back around to face forward. She couldn't be too loud when there might be prey around.

Brightstar wanted almost anything other than leading. Right now she felt so much like a kit playing warrior. She had become the deputy on the battle field, a fight between Rockclan and Lightningclan. Then not a full day later the dogs attacked. Brittlestar led them to battle and ended up dying. Brand new as a Deputy she stepped up to take on being leader. So there were days she tried to find anyone else who would lead for a moment. It was tiring and lonely being leader. She was proud to watch the apprentice head off.

She was already very impressed with this batch of apprentices. So it wouldnt take much to impress this leader. She padded after her. She purred softly to herself as pinepaw led her toward the forest. Good choice.

"Im glad to hear that!" Flamingrose was a capable warrior. She smiled. "Well then by all means! Show me what you have!" She flicked her tail and then scented for herself to see what was around. She could hear the birds in the trees, and there was a squirrel a long few tail lengths away, unless you had a pretty near perfect stalk it wouldnt even be worth going after. She waited her tail curling as she waited to see if the apprentice would go for it.

Pinepaw nodded when Brightstar told her to show off what she'd learned from her mentor. She turned her gaze to the trees, perking her ears forward and opened her mouth slightly. The squirrel was naturally the first thing that she got a whiff of and she flicked her tail the way Flamingrose had shown her, over and over, indicating she was going to stalk prey in this direction and to wait for her return. (It was the latter that Pinepaw always had a hard time remembering.)

Rather than padding directly towards it, however, she slipped into a cluster of bracken and disappeared. The occasional rustle would be heard and then silence. Pinepaw wasn't hunting alone, she was hunting with Brightstar. On her own, she wouldn't have been able to get the squirrel, but if she could scare it into her leader's paws, there would be food for the Clan. In the end, that's what mattered the most, especially in these times. She could show off her own hunting crouch later. She just hoped that Brightstar had stayed put as she'd requested.

With a leap, she landed neatly behind the squirrel and shot out a unsheathed cluster of claws when it tried to run the wrong way. She chased it, hoping it would run straight and by extension, straight into Brightstar.

Great StarClan, let this plan work!

Sorry for the absurdly long wait! I hope you're still interested in this RP, at least to wrap it up in the next couple of posts.
