Ayumu shifted his posture while the Hokage dealt out an order to secure the Leaf’s borders. He would never claim to be the foremost theologian when it came to his own religion, let alone Jashinism, but he did have his own opinions on the matter. And securing the border, in his mind, should only be a precursor to a more involved method of rectifying that particular problem. Jashinists were the human equivalent of pests, and Ayumu felt that they should be dealt with as such.
His personal feelings aside, the blonde boy did understand her response to the matter. Wanton murder in the village would probably lead to an adverse response from the general public, regardless of the reason. For better or worse, it was a smart move on her part. After all, the only way to really determine whether or not someone was a practicing Jashinist without them freely giving out that information, was to violate their privacy. The risk of being wrong and creating a tense atmosphere in the village was high, and definitely not worth it for potentially avoiding a future problem.
Ayumu crossed his arms when the Hokage addressed the girl and himself. Her point was valid. He had already been told that she was the Hokage, but the confirmation didn’t hurt. A defiant grin spread across his face as he leaned forward slightly. ”I don’t know. I’ll be sure to let you know, as soon as I settle in and start my first day.” He held his position for a bit before straightening up and fishing a crumpled letter out of his pocket, holding it out for Sadayo to take. Some of the words had been made illegible from its crude transport method, but the important bits were intact. ”Here, I’m ‘sposed to give you this,” he said, gesturing for her to read it.
The letter itself was for introductory purposes. It detailed that Ayumu was coming to the Leaf from a small town in the Land of Fire, with the goal of joining the academy as a prospective shinobi. His parents, who had drawn up the letter, also left a short apology for his lack of manners, with an attempt at a joke regarding his older brother getting all of the etiquette for both of them. "Ayumu," he said flatly, jabbing a finger at his own chest, before pointing at Sadayo. "Hokage. Now that that's out of the way, I'm itching to get started. Ya' know. Things to learn, wrongs to right. So where am I going?"
The sudden outburst from Nagisa drew Himi's attention, and his ire. Normally he'd be happy to see such eagerness from a fresh shinobi, but when it came to the cultists, he had no humor to spare. "Not a chance. Experienced chunin struggle with the weakest of these freaks. You'd barely classify as a distraction, not even considering the intel difference. You want a shot? Earn it." The arrival of another apparent student took the heat off Nagisa for a second. Ayumu's laid-back attitude, a total antithesis to Himi's messenger, irritated Himi further. But then again, what didn't right now? Himi's eyes narrowed, but he kept his mouth shut as the Hokage began to speak.
With her response however, his mouth opened wide in shock. She'd heard his report, cultists, jinchuuriki, barriers and all... and assigned him to border patrol. For the past couple days, he'd done everything he could to push down, force back, bottle up his emotions. He'd had purpose; Friends to save, cultists to stop, evil to slay. But now, in the wake of near-total dismissal by the one, and maybe the only person left around him that he thought, hoped, expected aid from, he snapped. The rage, the guilt, the sorrow he'd stamped down further in his psyche than even Matatabi's temple, exploded out of him in an instant. He stepped forward and pushed aside Ayumu, barely letting him finish his introduction.
"Is this a ******** joke?!"
His eyes were wide, and his breath heavy. In the split second following his outburst, he knew he'd messed up. But just as quickly he decided that if he was already in deep s**t, it made no difference whether he was ankle or knee deep. "Two of our most valuable village assets- no, shinobi- are trapped and under attack, and you tell me to go patrol?! I'm one of maybe, what? A dozen? People in this village on-par with them and their threat... ? And you put me on ******** patrol?!" Himitsu paused for just a second, catching his breath from shouting. It didn't last long. "Fine. You want border coverage?!" The Uchiha's hands flicked through a couple seals before settling. As they did, smoke erupted into the area for just a second, clearing to reveal a hundred copies of Himitsu standing in the area that once held the Hokage's office. When visibility returned to normal, they scattered in different directions without a word, almost as if even they didn't want to see the fallout of their original's current behavior. There! Border secure! What's next?! Should I polish the main gate?! How about I go change out some training dummies?! Or go babysit at the academy?!" The Bear Sage's arms waved about as he shouted, unconsciously creeping closer to the Hokage's "desk" with each sentence. "Sure, murderous lunatics have already infiltrated the village, our home, but let's focus on the border! I'll go do that, while you pretend you're protecting the village from behind a pile of <******** boxes!" Himi slammed his hands down hard on the stack of cardboard, squishing them down hard and unevenly.
"Gods, Himitsu... The consequences for this will be... harsh... You know that, right?" It wasn't until now that he realized how close he'd gotten. "I know, Mata!! I know..." Himitsu's chest heaving, hands shaking, eyes watering, and now talking to somebody who wasn't physically present, he realized how unhinged he looked right now. Or how unhinged he really was. The jonin started to collect himself slightly. His hands came up slow but smoothly from the lopsided boxes, and he stepped back. This time when he spoke, his voice was soft, defeated. "Okame's sake, the students don't even know who you are, and your office- what should be a symbol of the village- is a ******** crater. Are you the hokage?"

Save for the soft creases of paper under her fingers along the letter she accepted from Ayumu, nothing was rubbing her the right way. Yes, she accepted the letter, of course. But the combination of Himitsu showing his immaturity, incessant clone launching skills, and students being overly ambitious delayed the attention the letter probably deserved. Now what? A young member of the elite ranks lamenting loss and, in his grief, questions Sadayo’s authority. Sort of. Probably. Basically. Outwardly, she was blatantly unimpressed with all three of them and kept up with a stone cold callous glare that even followed Himitsu’s tender box smashing. Sadayo’s attention briefly glossed over Ayumu as she grumbled. "At least one of you has some decency and composure.” Her sharpened tone worsened. More irate with her declaration. “I am the Fire Shadow will remain as the Hokage until further notice.” She snapped her fingers and jabbed into a direction basically the way Ayumu came. “The academy. You two,” she barked, dividing her order to the students. “You should have been at the Academy by now. Go! Learn Learn what a beast host is! Learn what jashinsts are! Learn how to work together! Anyone with any sense would know that throwing either of you, students, into the fire is just bad throwing oil on an inferno.” Her cloak thrashed like an erratic yellow butterfly.“Now get! Go beat each other up or something at the school!” Any doddling from the students was met promptly with another annoyed bark, Go! Now!”
That was… really all she had to say to the students. All that was left was Himitsu's complaint. His massive, immature, pent up frustrated complaint. If it weren't for his circumstances- namely his loss- then Sadayo wouldn’t have held back the itching urge to swing her boot into his waist. Sadayo’s discontent with the Uchiha’s outburst was shunted onto the students. "These aren’t samurai, Himitsu,”an eruption of stress occupying her reply. ” Jashinists hide. There aren’t any banners flying to reveal themselves. I have been ambushed three times by Jashinsts- all three with one tailed beast host practically in arm’s length of me- all three scenarios still ended just a hair’s width from being a disaster.” In contrast, Sadayo’s had a check on her fit. Arms gesturing one way and another and flapping her cloak again. “They avoided sharingan, byakugan; they avoided that…” she stumbled on an elusive name. famed rapier-hyuga guy or something from Lightning and Kurama’s previous host.” The more she spoke, the more the severity in her voice was slowly warping. Angry but becoming tense and desperate. “Think of how bad it would be if I sent you on a raid to check every street corner with seething vengeance to root out Jashinsts? That’s prone to incite panic. If not more panic and instability.” She gestured to the mess behind her. Himitsu, she thought, as well have been reciting society’s progress report on Sadayo’s standing as of late. "We can’t corral villagers into a corner with an evacuation order either!"
The fluttering of her cape finally found ease and a drag of air hissed from Sadayo’s nostrils. She shrugged and skewed her mouth into a contorted sneer. “A curfew will go in place and chūnin and joūnin we can trust will be patrolling. These cultists always make the first move.What else do you want me to do, Himitsu?”

For all his arrogant bluster, Ayumu's composure was quick to crumble under the rapidly evolving tension between the Jonin and the Hokage. He watched as the area erupted in smoke and a multitude of clones leapt away to Buddha knows where. He'd have been awestruck by the display if the intensity of the confrontation hadn't been keeping him on edge. Clearly there were some current events he wasn't aware of, and from the sounds of things he didn't want to know what they were.
After hearing it from herself, Ayumu wasn't going to question the Hokage's position in the village. It wasn't his place to. The Jonin making such a harsh declaration regarding the state of this… former building, presumably the Hokage's office, made Ayumu's head drop into his shoulders. He wasted no time in turning to leave when the order was given. He snatched his luggage from the ground, making a comment under his breath about building the Hokage a temporary desk as he tried to hurry away from the area.
After Nagisa had gone out of her way to do the task that Himitsu asked of her. All she could do was gaze in astonishment. The sheer arrogance. The gall to say she wasn't even worthy of being a distraction. She watched as he barked at the Hokage, a truly, embarrassing display for someone of a rank of respect and prestige. To showcase in front of Academy Students. "I'm sorry you don't think I'm strong enough... to do anything. I've never been entrusted with faith or told that I can be someone that can help the village. All I do is train and save cats from trees in the park. You say to earn it, but how does someone earn her name if you won't give her the chance to? You..." As she began to lament his bite and anger, she was further humiliated by the Hokage.
"You know what... You people... you were the reason I wanted to become a kunoichi. You and him. And all of the strong people here in Konoha. All I've ever been was just a burden, a curse, that's why my father left. He only saw me as just another mouth to feed along with mom. But let me ask you something, Hokage-sama, Himi-chan... When you are out there risking your lives alone against these Jashinists, does it bring you comfort when you tell the future of your village to run away? Are we so weak that we can't bare witness to the darkness in this world? Am I such a pathetic wretched little girl, that you have to shelter me from them when all you can do is stand in ruins?"
She would edge forward to Sadayo and grasping her fist, Nagisa's eye seemed to quiver as she resisted a tear. She never took yelling well. Especially, from people she sought praise and acceptance from. "...The academy can't even save us... I'll go find the Jashinists myself. You can cower here behind your walls that don't even have the faithful foundations in tact... I'll save this village by myself." Taking out a kunai, she slashed her hand and ripped off her headband, her blood coating the cloth and sliding off the metal. "I swear with or without your guidance... This village is my home. And even if I am weak, I have the strength to protect it. I am not so foolish as to not be aware of how dangerous this world is. But if you keep coddling us, what will remain? More of these ruins just like your office. Believe in your future. Believe in me... Please."

The student's further complaints brought Himitsu's attention once again. "I'd believe in a frog's chances of killing a rhino before I believed you had a shot against any given one of the combat-ready cultists. You're so out of your depth you can't even see the surface to figure out why. I suggest you head to the library like the hokage," The word slid from his mouth with the malice and venom of an antiquated slur. "Suggested you do. Go pull the records of the last couple months and see exactly why you're not ready. Prep yourself for those reasons and maybe you'll have a snowball's chance in hell of not being canon fodder." Throughout his rant, his voice remained level. The jonin didn't yell or slip into a tone of irritation at any point, maintaining a tone of matter-of-factness from start to finish. He understood her drive all too well, but that drive was worthless in a corpse and he hoped to make her understand that.
With his peace said to the barely-younger student, his eyes shifted back to his boss whom he had just greatly disrespected. To him and his demon's surprise, he was not only still conscious but on even on his feet. She rounded out her declaration of current actions, and finished up with a question. Common sense told him it was rhetorical. His emotions forced him to answer. "How about some actual effort? Utilize the strengths that lie in this village. You say they evade the sharingan, but to what lengths have you actually employed it? I say we use it to sift through minds. Or better yet utilize the Yamanaka. Mind ******** is their specialty, so I'm sure they could do it easily. We launch an inquisition. We dredge out the traitors. We set an example." The longer he spoke, the more he calmed. Although the rage hadn't subside, the excitement had. As his hype waned, his speech slowed. The last few sentences dripped from his mouth slowly, holding a toxicity that surprised even Matatabi.

He made it hard to move!" The other two ninja looked just as uncomfortable and more so in the arms of their silent escorts. A second quickly spoke up. A stalwart, apprehensive tone in his voice. Their appearance tipped off his sage perception, that same sense suggesting they weren't hostile. A bit of relief crept through Himitsu, apparently content it wasn't Spec Ops here to throw down over his aggressive demeanor towards the kage.

As his head swiveled about, he pushed out with his sage sensory, searching for the hallmark sinister chakra of the cultists, but found nothing near enough to detect with natural energy. Until he got his answer, he would just need to wait for one of his clones scattered about the village to be alerted and dismissed somehow. Impatience and frustration filled him once more, causing his grip on his weapon to dig a groove into his palm. "Nevermind... If nothing's exploding by now they're probably on the move to their actual objective. I'll find them myself!" Himitsu was gone in a blink, fueled by an itch for revenge. He'd leapt into the rooftops in a flash, stopping only for a moment to throw a glare of malcontent toward the hokage before flittering off into the village.
