RIDER

User Image
    Name: Tifin

    Age: 104

    Nameday: 3471.03.27

    Sex: Female

    Sexual Orientation: Asexual

    Weyr: Western Weyr

    Rider Rank: Retired Wingrider

Previous Rank/Craft: Apprentice Vintner / Wingrider

    Physical Description:
    • Short, dark brown hair with white dominating her temples
    • Blue eyes
    • Medium brown skin
    • Many random scars; each one has a story that may or may not be true
    • 5'7"
    • Wiry and sprightly; elegant hands
    • Likes very flowy, lightweight dresses and boots

Personality: There are two activities that Tifin loves to engage in more than any others: mixing drinks and playing pranks. She is quite meticulous and curious even when it's not required of her, spending equal time looking for shortcuts that don't sacrifice work quality and ways to better understand how people operate. Despite that, she doesn't use her inventive brain to benefit others much, preferring to keep discoveries to herself unless she is directly asked to share her thoughts.

Tifin's pranks are never malicious and rarely even embarrassing. She just likes to have fun and make sure that others are having it too, especially these days. If you need a bit of a chuckle, she is more than happy to dye half of your hair blue or glue that bronzerider's mustache trimmings to her lip. Maybe even too happy to do so.

Positive Trait List: optimistic, organized, innovative, brave
Negative Trait List: mischievous, anxious, pushy, moody

History: As a youngster at Benden Hold, Tifin didn't spend much time thinking about dragons or their riders. She was far more interested in working at her craft, lucky to have been born in a place that specialized in a subject she grew to love. But even though she never had dreams of riding a dragon, over time the dragons took notice of her anyway. She was searched the short distance to Benden Weyr at the age of fifteen by a friendly green, and a little less than a year later, Twennoth found her. The gold didn't mind that Tifin's thoughts were far from the sands when she Impressed, the young dragon just wanted to share her rider's plans.

Tifin! Will you please tell your Twennoth more about this... ratchet press, preferably closer to the wherry? I would like to help you perfect it, but I am certain that I am the hungriest dragon who has ever hatched.

They spent too many years after that doing what was expected of them. It was frightfully boring.

A handful of months after her thirtieth birthday, Tifin'd had enough. There was nothing wrong with Benden, she just didn't quite fit in. After a bit of deliberation with her dragon, they applied for a transfer to Western Weyr. She no longer recalls what made her choose Western in particular, beyond the weather, but she was noticeably happier almost immediately. She made friends, and she even felt comfortable enough to make suggestions that went on to benefit her new home.

For a short time, the pair continued to go out of the their way not to cause any trouble as they had before, but one fateful night while leaving early from a Feast, Tifin was asked to drop a friend's broken necklace off in her weyr. Tif accidentally left it in the wrong one, and in the chaos that followed the next morning, a trickster was born. She started small, swapping items of similar importance just to see how people reacted, but her love of causing more sincere and less panicked chuckles had her moving on to such activities as making the softest of fart noises around authority figures and fashioning helmets out of old pans. With Thread dormant, she and Twennoth spent a lot of time traveling as well, bringing joy and a little bit of awe to many across Pern.

Twennoth rose a number of times throughout her life, but it was that first time, when the gold was thirty-four years old that she ate a bad bean.

One of the results of that flight was Gelfin, Tifin's son and the only other creature she loved as much as her dragon. Gel'n grew up to be a bluerider, and once he reached adulthood, he was more akin to Tifin's best friend than her child. He was struck down by Thread two years ago, at fifty-one.

These days, Tifin spends her time listening to the woes of the weyr and continues to try to make people laugh. She has a little more white in her hair than she once did and she moves a little slower, but she's much the same woman that she was seventy years back. She still mourns her son, but every day she regains a bit more of her spirit.

Other: Tifin has a bronze firelizard named Gelly. She hopes that no one notices his name sounds familiar, but everybody does. She's also really good at sleight of hand and likes to help weyrbrats perfect their magic shows when they're not doing chores.

DRAGON

    Name: Twennoth
    Age: 88 miles per hour
    Color: Gold
    Size: 47'

Physical Description: Twennoth is a large and stocky gold, likely intimidating to those who aren't familiar with her. Her neck is thick, her back legs are significantly shorter than her front, and her resting expression is more frowny than she would prefer. Her eyes are usually blue or green to compensate, though she learned long ago not to mimic human smiles in an effort to endear herself to weyrbrats. They make her look positively terrifying.

twen got that komodo dragon stance yo

Personality: Grounded is the first word most people think of when they're looking to describe Twennoth. She is kind but stern, almost incapable of making a joke, which is probably why she appreciates the hijinks of others. Years of being bound to Tifin have given her a sense of humor of a sort, though it usually only manifests itself in strange, impromptu contests, like who can sit on the most rocks or name the greatest number of dragons whose names start with B.

She is a good listener and she wants to listen, so much so that she will hound people she thinks are in need of her ear until they tell her something significant. Tifin is one of the few who can reliably call her off, interrupting with a distracting story or problem of her own.

Positive Trait List: welcoming, stable, curious
Negative Trait List: competitive about weird things, also pushy, can be intimidating

Dragon Art or Proof of Obtainment: oldie thread

1. I really cannot approve this until you actually fill out the details of Impression, as I definitely need to know how old she was when she Impressed, and a little more about what happened after the age of nine, before she went off to Western Weyr. Was she found on Search? As a weyrbrat, she only had the right to Stand if she stayed at the Weyr. Any other circumstances will obviously need to be ironed out, too. I know you're waiting to find out where her gold is from, but this is just too vague.
2. She would have been an apprentice cook/baker, not an apprentice mixologist. She may have focused on that, but officially there's no mixologist title - it's a specialty, not a craft unto itself.

... I don't know how I managed to miss that Twennoth only Rose once. Given that queens tend to rise at least every five Turns, I'd have to nix that mention. 88 Turns is simply too many Turns to not have more Flights under her belt.

I think the other additions are good, but this does need to be fixed.
