There were a few things Carter kept in mind. First, it seemed like he was safe. Meaning that Masumi didnât consider him to be someone that they should be wary about. That was good in his books. Second, he wasnât going to use him to find porn. You wouldnât imagine how many 18+ books have cried after being soiled by some nasties. What they had to say seemed far scarier than any horror novel. Third, the librarian was humble. Unless he was actually putting down his own skills.
âIf you know your way around a kitchen, can make delicious food, and put your heart into cooking; youâre a professional in my book.â His comment could have been seen as some false flattery that was meant to butter Masumi up. Frankly, it wasnât. Some people had a different interpretation of what a particular word meant to them. âProfessionalâ was one of those words, especially in this context.
Rubies seemed to convey âI apologize for my mouthâ as he took another hungry bite of the sausage. They were running low at this point. Sadness pricked the corner of his eye as he gazed at the few balls left. Good food was always the first to go. âDo you grow uncomfortable when people talk about that kind of stuff?â By âthat kind of stuffâ he gestured towards the lewd nature of some of his words. âI promise that I donât usually talk like this. Itâs just that weâre eating meatballs. So sometimes the topic can be interpreted differently.â Another ball was taken in, shutting him up for a little while.
âAre you referring to the original text or the translated novel? Iâm vaguely aware that one language doesnât have the necessary vocabulary to express another languageâs intended meaning. I believe you may call it âlost in translationâ.â He pondered more about it. With his peculiarity, reading a novel that was from a foreign or outdated nation was a breeze. âMay I borrow those books when youâre done reading it? Or maybe I should try getting my own copy so we can talk about it when youâre done.â Carter looked to be contemplating things once again.
The redhead chuckled at Masumiâs attempted joke. âYouâve given me an idea.â But he gently shook his head. âNo one can get in trouble when their being kidnapped.â Some might assume that the librarianâs phone buzzing was a sign of someone trying to get in contact with them. It was a safe thought, especially as Carter knew a bit more. âDo you have anywhere you want to go, kidnapee?â

"When you put it that way, I suppose that it would make more sense." After Carter clarified a bit more, it did make much more sense as to what he might have meant before. Someone who was capable, would naturally seem like more of a professional than someone who didn't have any experience. That was typically how that went. Because he cooked more than the other, he would a bit more than Carter, which would make him more advanced in the field. He wondered what Carter was really good at for a second. But he wasn't sure if he should ask him.
His head shook as he took more meatball to give it to Carter, deciding that sense the redhead was probably missing home, he could have the rest of what was left. It seemed only right considering that Masumi made it for him after all. "No, I just do not care for reading that kind of material unless it is a book on human health and biology. More scientific things and not so much about desire and lust. They are not something I often experience." He nod his head as Carter spoke again, understanding how it can be misinterpreted because of what they were consuming. "It's okay, I didn't feel offended by anything you have said so far."
Their conversations seemed to have different themes to them, but he still enjoyed having them, answering each topic with honesty and as much clarity as he could. "The original text. I like to learn different languages to read old texts. I have a small collection at home which was donated to me by fellow historians." He was a book nerd, that was already obvious on his end. Maybe it was a silly reason to learn different languages. Aside from him learning sign just so he didn't have to talk at all.
That thought alone would bring a realization to him as he sat there. This entirely interaction, since they sat down, he was far too distracted to even think of his voice. Perhaps distracting himself with the content of the conversation and not his own voice, was best from now on. "Those books in particular might be difficult to acquire, but you could always borrow mine. Unless you wanted to read the translations and we can compare."
"I hope not a bad idea." He would joke again with his straight face, his head tilting a little in question. "Isn't it usually customary for the kidnapper to decide where they go?"

He gave a nod when the silver male understood his words. Picking up on something, he took his time to think about what he might actually be decent at. âCooking requires time and effort. It is a lot like relationships. You put time and effort into them. The more you do, the stronger the bond. Sometimes those relationships are platonic, intimate, romantic, friendly; something along that line of thought. So for me, I like making those connections. I like talking to people, things, animals; anything that has a voice.â It didnât seem like something to boast, nor was that his goal. He just found it a topic that was easy to bring up when it came about himself.
Carter blinked when Masumi told him about his reading. It got him thinking and he might as well say what was on his mind. âIf you did experience desire and lust, do you think you would take an interest.â Ah, but that was just a genuine question. Maybe it wouldnât be believable since the redhead loosely held the librarianâs hand or the fact that he was getting fed by the man too. âBut that is just a hypothetical question.â
âOh!â His eye fluttered open when hearing that Masumi had the original. That made him a bit more interested to read the text. âIs the book thin enough to be read in a single night? I must admit that youâve made me curious about the book. I feel like most people would read the translated version over the original because it is in a language they can comprehend. The food was right. You are a hard worker and put in a lot of effort in your hobbies.â Well, that last bit of the sentence was more of an interpretation he got from the food and the containers they were brought in. But he still spoke honestly and had no intention of any false flattery.
âReally? Youâd let me?â He didnât believe himself to be an untrustworthy individual. You could say Carter was surprised that Masumi would let him borrow something that could be considered precious. âHow about I come over and read the book after we cook. Well, more like you cook and I taste test everything you throw at me.â He blinked as he actually pictured it. âThen we could read our books while we rest.â Maybe that sounded too invasive of Masumiâs lifestyle. Though that would be up to the man himself.
âIf there is a book about how to properly kidnap someone, I would like your recommendation.â Okay, that joke got to Carter as he looked away to snicker. He already knew that Masumi was a librarian but there couldnât be a book for everything, right? âWell, guess we can write on our own book about how to kidnap someone whose on a date.â He ate the last meatball that was offered. Chewing it slowly, he savored the taste until he could have this delicious morsel next time. âUnless you want to kidnap me.â

"I am not good at making connections. Sometimes I wonder if I am missing something by being more reserved." If he was missing the fun because he refused to associate and isolated himself. He was friends with Tigran and Victoria to a degree, but nothing that was to the point of saying that they were both close friends that he had a connection with. They were glorified acquaintances if you looked at it objectively. He already knew that was his fault. Since he often pushed away Tigran and didn't reach out enough with Victoria. Connections to him, were only ever painful, so he didn't want them at all.
That was a question, that he wasn't sure would have a simple answer. If he felt such a way, would he shut it away, or embrace it? "Maybe. I think it would probably depend on where I am getting these feelings from. If it something I feel for someone I shouldn't feel for, then I would probably reject the desire." It was an honest answer from him. He didn't want to lust after someone who lusting after will only cause him pain in the end.
"Well, you see, the book I have is the original collection of recordings on the twelve tablets they found, which had Gilgamesh's adventures in cuneiform. It was gift for helping them do translations. So yes, I think it is one that could be read in a single night. I tried spreading it out by reading one a day." Being so focused on the response to them man's talk on the book itself, Masumi didn't quite react to the assessment of his work ethic and merely nod in thanks.
"Yes. If I didn't get it returned, I somehow doubt it would be hard for me to find you when I know a hacker who can find anyone in the city." It seemed like somewhat of a threat to the man if he didn't responsibly give the precious gift back, but Masumi was very serious about it. "Oh, that might be nicer."
The snickering, made the librarian give a small smile before he gave a small chuckle of his own. Though he tried to quickly cut it off with a flushed face. "We can just call it even and claim we kidnapped each other."

âIt sounds like you havenât met the right person. Not to necessarily break you out of your shell, but to coax you out of it and show that people arenât so bad.â That was more of a wild guess on Carterâs part. It could have been the case that Masumi was scared of making connections, people, or going out of his comfort zone. Whatever it was, the redhead knew that everyone had a pace that they liked to move. âWell, this gluttonous stranger would say that youâre missing out on what you want to miss out. If youâre reserved because thatâs who you are, you donât have to change if you like the way things are. If youâre reserved because you think thatâs for the best, Iâd say try things once and determine if their worth it or not.â The corner of his lips turned into a smile before he began to munch on the sweets. Mmmmm! These were tasty too! Masumi had them at the right sweet levels. You could tell how much Carter liked them as he happily munched on the pastry.
âThatâs a sound answer for a hypothetical question.â While munching on his sweet, he would offer one to Masumi. Talking like this was making him thirsty, especially with all these snacks he was hoarding away in his stomach. âForbidden love, donât some people find that attractive?â Though, there was no telling if that was something the librarian was into. But from their hypothetical answer, he knew that Masu spoke honestly. So Carter looked up to the moon while taking another bite from his Swedish treat. âAs for me, I probably wonât think anything that complex. If I like someone and they like me back, I donât think I would think about whether our feelings were appropriate or not. We'll cross that bridge when we get there.â He took another bite from his treat before looking at Masumi with a small smile.
âHmmm, you must know a lot of languages then.â His interest was piqued as the topic shifted to languages. âOf all the books donated to you, which one is the most precious to you and why?â He took another bite, his mouth buds seemed to be dancing at the tasty treat.
âThe original collection?!â He sounded surprised. He was no thief, but someone would surely try to steal some of Masumiâs books. Well, when he put some thought to it, was the manâs home safe from any potential robbers? âMasumi, you have taken measures to protect these books, right? Some of them sound like pieces of work that a robber might go after.â Carter wasnât talking about himself but Masumi should certainly err on the side of caution. âBut reading an original work like that...I wonder what the collection would say. It makes me wonder what kinds of things theyâve seen.â
Carter knew immediately who Masumi was referring to. It felt like his bum was already tingling from the only time it was treated roughly. âThen Iâll pop on over when you want to try a new dish. It doesnât have to be a Sweden one. I want to try cuisines that you feel confident in. But...could you make more of those meatballs in the future?â He seemed to scratch his head in a slightly embarrassed manner as he placed the lid back on the empty meatball tray. Carter wasnât about to shy away from his meatball glutton phase.
âAlright.â He gave a small squeeze to Masumiâs held hand. âWe both kidnapped each other and decided to hold each other hostage in the Night Garden. Does that work?â This entire thing about kidnapping sounded absolutely ridiculous! Though there werenât that many people out, he could almost feel like some people were snickering at the silliness or raising their brow. âWhat do you want to do now? I mean, I can continue stuffing my face with these sweets all night.â

"Everyone has the capacity to be a bad person. Some are just better at withholding the urge to be cruel than others." To be coaxed out of the fear, humiliation, shame and betrayal that was thrust upon him by his family...such a thought of it ever being a possibility was rather laughable to him. But he would not say that out loud and let Carter's words be something that he would try to recall if it ever came to it. Would someone truly be able to coax him away from the harsh life his family put him through? More like, would anyone ever bother to try? It seemed like a pointless endeavor in his opinion. "And if I try it once, and regret it, won't I have that regret hanging in my heart for the rest of my life? I always thought it was safer to never bother."
At least, while they were having their strange conversation which was vaguely over sex, Carter looked like he was enjoying the sweet that Masumi had decided to go with. He hoped it wasn't too sweet for the man. "I find it tiring." he said bluntly after taking the pastry offered to him and nibbling on it. "Where is the resolution in something that will never be? You can enjoy the excitement while it lasts, but it will only leave a bitter taste in your mouth when everything comes to an end. Nothing lasts." He would take a hefty bite after that, letting the sweetness of the treat overcome the bitterness that was beginning to fill his mouth. "Typically with a forbidden love, only one is in love, while the other is infatuated with the danger of it being forbidden. That is why it is destined to fail from the start. It was broken from the beginning." Since he was facing forward, the man did not see the smile, and only took another bite of the dessert. It was as his mouth started feeling dry, however, that he recalled the drinks he put into the bag. A Swedish sparkling soda named Loka. One was Coconut dream and the other was called peachy peach.
he used his freehand to pull the drinks from the bag before setting them down where Carter could see. It was around that time, which he realized his other hand was taken by the redheads. It was strange that he had almost forgot that they were holding hands this whole time. Considering that they were feeding one another before, and now were eating food that was simple to eat, they had really only used one hand. "I know as many as I am able to learn." He had to think about it, really wonder what would be his favorite of all his precious gifts. "A journal which has poems that are not known so well by Edgar Allen Poe. I suppose it feels like an inside thing, since no one really knows they exist."
He blinked at the other's voice seemed to raise in his surprise, before he suddenly chuckled, his shoulders shaking gently as his freehand lifted to cover his mouth with the back of his hand until he got himself together again. "I don't own the tablets if that is what you are referring to, no. But yes, I do own a lot of originals." There was a slight smile on the man's face as he reached out to take another pastry to take a bite. "Of course. I don't display them, nor do I lock them in a safe. They are safe however."
he watched the man become a little embarrassed over his gluttony with the meatballs, and probably asking to have them made again. In his book, that meant he succeeded in his goal. "If you do come over, perhaps it should be earlier so that we can try something new for lunch and I can send you home with kĂśttbullar for you to eat for dinner." Not that there wasn't an invitation for him to stay for dinner at Masumi's. He just wasn't sure what they would do the whole time from around noon to around 7 or 8. That was about 8 hours. A lot of time to spend with someone usually.
Feeling the squeeze against his hand, the man's cheeks became rosy once more and he nod his head in agreement as he squeezed back gently."I am sure there are more places in the garden that would be fascinating to see. We could tour more of it since you have eaten."

Once more, Masumiâs logic was sound. Everyone around them had the potential to do unspeakable things (especially since Gaia has a PG-13 restriction on Rpers. âYeah. Maybe youâll find someone who thinks being cruel is too much work and bothersome than what itâs worth.â Carter used the dessert to gesture towards himself. He may or may not admit that he could be lazy sometimes. âYou wonât regret it if you have someone to help you.â He almost seemed to point to himself again before shifting his pastry in Nessieâs direction. âBecause if something happens, you can both sit down, eat some yummy food and read a book. Maybe do some research about how you can do better next time, do whatever you didnât do well the first time, and then laugh about the silly mistake you made.â Carter took a bite of the Swedish treat while looking to Masumi. âItâs okay if you need help with things or need some hand-holding.â He gave the librarianâs hand a squeeze before a wind softly ruffled his hair.
Carter took another pastry before munching on it. He only wished that he could have more. Why couldnât good food just be an infinite thing in this world? âI wonder who decided why their love was never meant to be? If you break down the social constructs, the division of race, etc., all you have is two people who want each other.â Maybe one person really was infatuated with danger while the other was truly in love with said individual. One could think of the well-known story of Romeo and Juliet. A shallow tragedy where the lovers kill themselves. âNothing lasts, youâre right. Even the memories the lovers make will eventually fade away with time.â The man turned to look at the librarian calmly. âBut the moment they shared together can never be taken back. People will go to great lengths when they are in love.â Smiling at his sweet, he took a bit before responding. âSorry, I couldnât help but play devilâs advocate. I feel like youâve made some good points.â
His eyes grew bigger at the Swedish drinks. His hand was acting before his brain could respond, taking the coconut can. There was a temptation in his eye while glancing at the peachy drink. But somewhere in his conscience, someone kept yelling that he had to be a decent human being! So he held the Loka close by and opened it. âHave you ever been in love with a person?â He elaborated since Masumi could have gone and said that he was in love with books. The man wanted to narrow down the choices the librarian could pick in case they were feeling smart.
âOn our next kidnapping, maybe we can talk in a different language. I want to hear your dedication.â That sounded like a rather romantic notion. Much like with the food, maybe Masumiâs words could express how much effort he put into a language. âIâm familiar with his work. I wasnât aware that some of his other poems had survived all this time.â That sounded like an impressive piece of work! He wondered what those parchments of paper would have to say about their original owner.
He could feel a sense of relief at the news, or maybe it was the way that Masumi found this all to be rather laughable. Carter didnât take any offense to this. In fact, he soaked it up. It felt as if the librarian didnât get to let loose very often. âDonât tell me where they are. I highly recommend that you get to know me a bit more. But I donât really have a use for old books besides listening to what they have to say. I want to hear what theyâve seen over the years.â He admitted. Though he had no idea if that would dampen the mood.
âWell, Iâll come over if youâll have me. Iâll make room in my schedule if it means I can eat more balls..the kĂśttbullar.â Carter quickly clarified even though he was confident that Masumi understood what he meant. âDo you want me to bring anything? I donât want to keep freeloading your meals without giving something back.â
âYou ate a bit too.â He said on a chuckle before agreeing to go around the garden. âWas there a particular place in the garden you wanted to see?â The redhead tried to think about the layout of the place before looking at the mess they made. âLetâs clean up a bit. Here, let me help out since I ate the most too.â This meant releasing Masumiâs hand, but not before he gave them a reassuring squeeze. Their drinks werenât empty so he put those two the side and proceed to pack things up precisely as Masumi had done. Everything was situated in the satchel that the librarian brought. Carter was sure to ask the silver male if he could carry it all before he swung it over his shoulder. Standing up, he extended his hand to help Masumi while holding his coconut refreshment in the other. If their date chose to not let go of his hand, after helping him up, then neither would Carter.

He wasn't sure if he was strong, or brave enough to take the leap. In the past, he always told himself that there was no point, because half the time, it felt like he was dying. He didn't have the energy to be passionate or provide someone the same kind of care a normal lover could. Would he even be able to have sex or the energy to lust after a person? Half the time he was worried about even being able to get himself to work. To ask for help with any of that, meant that he would have to explain what was wrong. He didn't want to involve anyone else with the things that his family did to him. He felt...ashamed. He nod his head in a way of telling Carter okay, and that he understood, the thoughts of today's events before now a reminder of his silence.
"Sometimes there are social constructs to protect the people who need it. Like a teacher and a impressionable student, an older man or woman and a child or teenager. But I do agree with you. There are times when that is something that shouldn't matter. However, there are those who have to follow the grain of their family and are forbidden from going against it." His blue eyes turned to look back at Carter's mismatched crystals, listening to what he seemed to believe about time and how people choose to interpret it. Had he ever experienced such a love? One that could withstand the scrutiny of others and the deterioration of time. No, he doubt that he ever has or ever will feel that way. "Not everyone knows or will experience such a feeling. And its alright. The discussion is an interesting one."
He shook his head as he took the peach soda and opened it, eyes shifting over to Carter as he noticed some unrest with him. Holding out the peach drink before he took some, he spoke and silently offered some of the peach to Carter. "Have you?" He would wait for Carter to either take some or reject, before retracing his hand to take a sip himself of the refreshing peachy beverage.
(("Dedication...))[[I suppose]] {{that is what you}} \could call my curiosity// >>for different languages.<<" He spoke in several different languages, using each one to smoothly blend them all together into a cohesive sentence. As if speaking them one after the other was natural to him. Japanese, Korean, French, Russian, and Swedish. That was the order in which he spoke the very different sounding languages. "I think it would be good practice for me to spend a whole day speaking a language that I need more work with. And don't worry. I had no intention of telling you where they were. I am no fool." He would only give a nod in reply to Edgar's work.
"My schedule is...unpredictable. So you would have to message me and I would need to get back to you." Mainly because he never knew when his family would barge in and take away his energy. He didn't like people seeing what became of him when that happened. "Anything Japanese then. I get nostalgic of home sometimes." He nod his head as he set down his drink, attempting to get up to help when he suddenly got hit with a wave of fatigue. His hand lifted up and rest on his forehead as he felt dizzy all of a sudden. Because he was talking and sitting down, he didn't feel anything, but as soon as he tried to get back up, reality and his exhaustion came crashing down on him.
Once he caught a glimpse of Carter's hand and took it, he stood up and tried to stand up straight, holding onto Carter's so that he would right himself without falling. To try and deter the attention, he spoke up on a place in the garden. "I heard that they have these ponds with blue colored lights in them underneath lily pads, lotus flowers and koi fish. I wanted to see it."

Carter took the librarianâs silence as a sign. If his words made the man think then he couldnât ask for anything more than that. Sometimes all someone needed were words while others needed action. But if Masumi mulled over Carterâs sentences, it was a sure sign that he was carefully giving the offer some consideration. Though he couldnât quite pinpoint what the reason was for his silence, his rubies would somehow drift back to that phone. Was it too late to chuck it?
âI agree too. There are rules out there that have deterred people away from living their dark fantasies. Granted, every country and culture is different. While one tradition may be seen as atrocious in another, we must respect their way of life.â He looked to Masumi as their small back and forth continued. âRegarding family, that is up to the personâs culture and mental capacity. There are people who can toss away their family while pursuing their own desires, others that serve them without hesitation, and then some mix of the two. How someone interprets âfamilyâ should be up to them. Not all families are created equal, some are actually quite atrocious.â Looking up at the moon, he took a drink from the can. âBut with the right mental capacity, there are people that can break free and try to live their own lives.â Taking another sip, he glanced back at Masumi. âYouâre right, they probably wonât but it makes me wonder. What lengths would we go for the person we treasure the most? And if we find another love, would we do the same for them?â
The peachy liquid inside wasnât going to be the same once Carter got his hands on it. Because he was trying to have some self-control, he only drank about â
of the can before handing it back to Masumi. âYeah, I have. She passed away though.â He held his coconut can up to the moon as if to toast to her memory.
â((I would say))[[your dedication]]{{is very admirable,}}\especially to someone who//>>picks up languages quickly.<<â Carter rather enjoyed the challenge that came with this sudden shift in their convo. âPractice makes perfect?â He raised his brow to confirm Masumiâs line of thought. âI havenât spoken my native tongue in a while. How do you feel about getting a language partner along with a kidnapper for tonight?â The redhead gave a nod in terms of Masumi smart move. âGood. I already had a feeling that I wasnât dating a fool.â
âWorks for me. I was already planning on keeping in touch with you after tonight.â With the moon out today, he didnât know how long their date would last. Thankfully, this dating app paired him with someone who wasnât planning on killing him. That was always a plus in life. âWhich prefecture?â He asked though the answer to that could wait when Masumi grew faint.
Coconut drink was put on the table so that he could help Masumi. Of course, this guy didnât look like the type to ask for help anyhow. He pulled the man into a hug and looked up at the moon. âWe donât have to rush. It looks like you sat too long and lost your sense of balance.â It was a lie, perhaps a bit too obvious for the librarian. But in Carterâs own way, he was giving the man an excuse. âAnd you were looking a little cold. Sorry, almost down warming you up.â The redhead wouldnât let go or stop with the lies until he was assured that Masumi was feeling a little better. Was it really too late to enact a real kidnapping?

He once again found comfort in his own silence when the topic was on the mention of family, and a person's will to break away from them. Sometimes he wondered if it was that simple. But when you looked at the size of his family, the Alaric name...it wasn't as easy as telling them no and cutting them off. No, not when he had his father, mother, cousins, uncles and aunts who all used him. He was outnumbered. The entire time, his eyes were glanced down and he would take small sips from his can, which was down a little more than 1/3 of the way with Carter's help. He would make a mental note to buy more of them for next time.
"I am sorry for your loss." He would say quietly, his eyes finally looking up from his can, to gaze at the moon as he took another sip. He felt a little odd now, wondering if he should have even asked that question. Would it have brought up memories that were not pleasant.
His eyes glanced towards Carter, before he looked away again with a small smile. ">>I enjoy appreciating languages that are different than my own. A language partner sounds nice.<<" Masumi would nod in confirmation that he wasn't a fool, his hands tapping the can softly.
He nods his head and takes another sip before looking back at Carter."Hokkaido, have you ever been?" His eyes would widen as he felt arms wrap around him, his face flushing as he was held close in a hug. His hands would lift to hold onto Carter's shirt as he nod his head and took this time to try and recollect himself. Pushing through the headache and the shaky feeling of his legs which wanted to give out on him."Yeah...my legs must be tired." He would continue the lie that the other man had started, his eyes closing as he tried to focus on standing straight and pushing through the weak feeling they had.
"It was probably the drinks, thanks." He continued, despite it not really being too cold of a night and him wearing long sleeves. He would stay like that for a little bit, unless he felt like he maybe had his footing on his own, letting Carter's shirt go so that he can step back carefully. I think I am alright now, thanks." He would say with gratitude, hand lifting to tuck hair behind his year which felt warm from his flush.

âIâm more concerned about the children she looked after. I think they felt her loss more than I did.â He smiled while taking a sip of the can. Carter didnât appear bothered with the topic. In fact, he looked rather pleased to recollect anything about his life. Maybe the redhead would have liked to blabber on about her work but that would just make him look like he was hung up on a dead person. There was a time and place for these things.
â>>You are giving me a lot of treats today. You serve me my countryâs food, drinks, and now itâs language. Masumi Alaric, you seem to be full of considerate surprises.<<â Rubies drifted back to the moon as a playful thought came to mind. â>>An oyster doesnât look like much on the outside. People have to realize that itâs true beauty is the hard work the oyster has done over its lifetime<<â Maybe it didnât make sense on its own. But he was curious to see if the Alaric would get it.
âNo, Iâve been to Tokyo, Saga, Hiroshima, and Osaka.â At least, some of his memories contained those four locations. If he had actually been there was up for debate. But for now, his arms would help keep the man up. The redhead stood still while Masumi tried collecting himself. His lie, well, the librarian picked up on it real quick and went along with it. He didnât speak up when the Swedish male found out that the silver man was having some difficulty right now. An arm loosened up a bit so that his broad hand could rub Masumiâs back in a soothing manner.
âMaybe they had some alcohol in them. You could be a lightweight.â Sure, the drinks were in Swedish but they werenât alcoholic in nature. But seeing the blush on Masumiâs face, he still wanted to feed him a lie that would prevent him from having to explain anything to Carter. âMaybe I should get some water. Let you rehydrate yourself a bit.â He looked around for a vending machine. âI promise Iâll still take you to the pond. But letâs go a little slowly so we can wake up your leg a bit and see the sights. Iâm not going anywhere anytime soon.â The redhead gingerly took Masumiâs hand, gave it a reassuring squeeze and checked to see if the librarian was good for a little walk.

It was strange. He didn't peg the man as the type to have any children. But as he spoke his first reply, it sounded very much like he has children. "You have children? Was she your wife?" He asked curiously. Normally, one would not speak of another lover while on a date. But he was not bothered by it, and this was far from your typical first date. "If you don't mind me asking...what is it like? To have a romantic partner I, mean." As someone whose never fallen for someone, he didn't really know what those kind of feelings were supposed to entail. How did one know they were in love?
">>I am just happy that you enjoy them.<<" On the bit about oysters being beautiful for the hard work, Masumi wondered if that was supposed to be applied to him. If he was the oyster, than what was the pearl? The food that he made and the efforts of him learning languages? He felt like he got what the man meant to a degree, but wondered what the pearl was supposed to be. ">>Are you referring to the pearl that they create? I'm not sure if that can be considered as something beautiful when it forms from sand which irritates the oyster to make the process of turning it start. Pearls are not a sign of hard work. They are the cause of suffering which in most cases, leads to the oyster's death."<< In this case, his pearls latching onto him was his family. Taking him over and killing him. But he suddenly felt bad for getting overly technical on Carter's phrase, his cheeks turning red as he glanced away. >>"I apologize. That was probably not your point."<<
"Maybe." He agreed. Even though he was 100 percent sure they didn't. He made sure of it to avoid getting into trouble since drinking usually made him much more open about his family and impending doom. It was not ideal to bring that up on a first date. "I'll be fine, thank you. I probably just got up to quickly." He stands up straight and walks carefully with Carter's help. "Thank you for your help. I am a little embarrassed that I am troubling you for help to stand up on my own."

A âPfffftâ sound came out of his mouth before he started cracking up. He had to settle down first before he could explain what he meant. âNo, Iâm not a father and itâs not likely I can be one. I have Azoospermia. A fancy term that means I have a low sperm count. Looking unphased with the conversation, he continued on. âShe was a Child Protection Service agent, so she helped kids who were in dire situations.â The redhead took another sip of his can and swirled the liquid inside. âShe wasnât my wife, no. She was engaged to her work and there was a good man pining for her affections back in her home country.â He smiled fondly while taking another sip of his can. Ah! It looks like he had run dry of his poor coconut drink. âI would say...that they can bring the best in you when you donât have high hopes for yourself. She made me a better man but could never return my affections. A one-sided love, but I donât regret it. If I hadnât met her, then I wouldnât have known what itâs like to value life.â Carter threw his can to the nearest trash can. Maybe he had some secret basketball skills up his sleeves as the empty container landed neatly in its designated area. âWould you ever want a romantic partner?â
Carter shook his head with a faint trace of a smile hanging on his lips. Masumiâs hands were given another squeeze. It was as if the action was conveying âItâs alright, you can speak your mind around meâ. â>>Donât apologize, you spoke about what was on your mind. Some people would have probably tried to focus on the beauty aspect of my words. But you spoke about what mattered to you and thatâs charming.<<â But this oyster comparison would need further digging. Digging that the librarian might do on his own time when his family penetrated their mind again.
There was a nod from the redhead as they accepted Masumiâs words. His pacing matched the librarian. He wouldnât walk fast even if the other man tried. He would just gesture towards something that was eye-catching so that they could take a lot of breaks. âIt isnât much trouble. If you get cold or feel tipsy again, I can help you again.â He glanced at the flowers and the people that walked around them. âI wouldnât be surprised if you got light in the head with all these floral fragrances.â Though not necessarily a lie, he was feeding another reason for the manâs fatigue. It was entirely possible that some floral vegetation could have some unforeseen consequences on someoneâs health. âBut itâs a nice night for a date.â He gave Masumiâs hand another squeeze before continuing their steady walking pace.

He listened as Carter spoke more of the woman with whom he had deep feelings for once. How it seemed to have changed his way of life and the way he looked at things. Was love really something that powerful? That it could move a person so greatly to change the way that they choose to see things? Once again, he felt very inexperienced in that department, and unable to do much else but listen to Carter speak about it. Did it still pain him to talk about it? Judging by the almost affectionate expression he had, it didn't seem like he looked on it with pain, but with fondness. Like it was apart of his growth. Masumi...envied him a little bit, for being able to look on a memory that way. Did he ever have such a memory?
He would try to envision it, a day when he was happy all the time. But looking back, his childhood was always...stifled. He always had this feeling of...suffocation. Words which were caught in his throat, things he wanted to show he enjoyed, but had to pretend was beneath him. Once Carter ran out of his coconut drink, Masumi lifted the can he sipped from to hand it to Carter as he responded. "I am not sure. I feel as though it would be wasted on me. I am not experienced, nor do I think that I am in the right state of mind to care for someone else. I feel like you have to regard yourself better before you could ever hope to regard someone else fondly." He had always felt like in order for you to ever claim to love someone else, there had to be some love in yourself. That was something that he lacked. Not that he would call himself names or degrade himself. He just...found nothing of supreme value. Perhaps that was where his problem lied. He was too well trained and reserved and needed to let go a little.
">>Charming isn't normally a word I would use to describe myself, but thank you.<<" he wasn't sure where Carter had been going with the oyster analogy, but he let that thought slip away from him as they continued to walk along. While Carter continued to tell those little lies, Masumi became quiet. ">>I was neither drunk, nor cold. Just fatigued. I feel a little...drained."<< He wasn't sure if he should or even would elaborate on that one, but he let Carter think what he wanted as he glanced down at their hands again.
Was hand holding something natural to people? he had never held someone's hand before this, not in this way. So it seemed a little strange that something he had never done before, felt...okay. Normal.>>"I like the gardens here. They have flowers you don't normally see during this season since they take such great care of them."<<

Carter glanced at Masumi when he sensed something. Peering into the manâs distinctly colored eyes, he began to confirm what they were communicating. âYou think a lot, but I donât have the ability to read minds.â He backed his head a bit in case the closeness made the librarian uncomfortable. âBut nothing I have is worth envying over. I would say this moment, that includes me and you, is worth that feeling. We will never be able to experience the same conversation, the same moment, the same warmth, the same delicious food. Iâm already envying my past self for scarfing down all the meatballs. He should have thought about future me a little bit more.â
A peach flavored Swedish drink rose to his attention. His hand was already grasping at the cool cylinder metal. âThank you.â Taking a sip from the refreshing beverage, he didnât think much about the indirect kiss that kept happening with this one can. Huh, why? âYou seem to devalue yourself a lot.â The redhead comment as his attention shifted over to the moon again. There was just something about the lunar glow that caught his attention. âIf I tell you that I donât think it would be wasted on you, would you believe me?â The can was brought to his lips as he looked to Masumi. He waited for an answer before continuing. âNo one starts off experienced when it comes to a romantic partner. But love, it is never a simple thing and it canât be planned. It could come around the corner right there,â Carter pointed towards the corner they were about to turn on. âAnd blindside you.â
Once they turned the corner, they were met with the lovely sight of the lit pond that they were trying to find. There seemed to be no other soul around as the crimson-haired man guided Masumi to the edge of the water. âOr maybe it can captivate you and invigorate you to change. You never really know.â Leaning over, Carter could see his reflection in the calm waters of the pond.
â>>Yeah, I should apologize for lying. I didnât want you to talk about something you werenât ready to open up about.<<â Gazing at the water, ripples began to pop around as various colored Koi fish began to appear. Digging through his pocket, he popped out some food that was geared towards this particular aquatic creature. â>>Yeah, the flowers are well taken care of. If you want, I can let you listen in.<<â He held up the fish food towards Masumi. â>>Do you want to feed the Koi fish with me?<<â
