Rivermist sighed, confined to the nursery. Why she had agreed to this was beyond her. But after the fox attack, she had been feeling things she herself would never dare to admit. Feelings of grateful that Longclaw hadn't gotten hurt or sick. Feelings that she could have lost him had Forestclan not protected him. One thing led to another and before she knew it she found herself expecting in leafbare.
Cursing his name almost daily until the kits came, she curled around them protectively, fiercely. Already she could see the makings of Longclaw in them, especially in Pikekit and that both amused and terrified her. That's exactly what she didn't need, was another Longclaw. Yes she loved him, yes that was the mousebrained tom she wanted to spend her life with. But in her mind she had had other plans for how her kittens would grow up to be like.
Apparently she was wrong.
"Pikekit, if I feel you trying to wiggle free one more time...." she sighed, eyes not even daring to open at this point.
Minnowkit simply lay snuggled, thankful to be snug and warm against his mom right now. Pikekits squirming though kept him from being able to properly nap and he groaned. "Piiiiikekiiiiit. Can't we just nap...." he said through a tiny yawn, his overly puffy ears looking like giant radars atop his head as he popped open one eye and squinted at her.

Longclaw lay outside the nursery, his fluffy bulk giving off body heat, blocking most of the wind and cold air from getting in the entrance. He adored Rivermist, had done since the day he'd wandered near the clan, going so far as to joining it to be with her. She'd been stubborn at first but soon he realised her sarcasm had been hiding her feelings for him, especially because he teased her just as much back.
After the fight with the fox Longclaw realised time was precious, then the dung really hit the proverbial fan when cats started getting sick, he hadn't wanted to waste another moment, one thing had led to another and... kittens. Not how he would have planned things, it was leafbare and hard enough and while he couldn't blame Rivermist, he did blame himself for letting it get this far, this time of the year. He would be found normally, either hunting and making sure she ate before anyone else, or laying outside the nursery. He watched his mate with his kits with a smile on his face though, she could handle them.
Pikekit squirmed and wriggled, trying to escape her mother's protective 'cuddle' pile, disturbing Minnowkit in the process "noooo minnow ... wan be out there" she said, trying again to wriggle free, she couldn't sit still, not while she was awake and there were things to do, it didn't help that she was much smaller than Minnowkit, often ending up shoved underneath him as he wriggled about to get comfy.
