Foxpaw didn't know how to explain to Barkfang that she'd been visited by a StarClan cat of all cats. And one telling her all of the sorts of things Barkfang wouldn't want to hear. She flattened her ears just at the thought of it, but she tried to focus on what Barkfang was teaching her. At one point, it was brought up that she should have at least one friend her age, so she looked like she was properly fitting in within the Clan.

She evaluated her options. Many of the other apprentices seemed overly friendly. She couldn't relate to their friendliness, couldn't even begin to pretend at it. She didn't want to be friends with any of these cats! How was she supposed to fake one if she didn't resonate with even one of them? She was starting to give up, when one day her gaze fell upon one of the younger apprentices: Fadingpaw. She didn't know him very well, except that he was mentored by Lostpath, the deformed cat. He didn't seem inclined to talking with other cats and only seemed to talk to his mentor most days. She couldn't figure him out just by staring at him, so eventually, she set it on her mind to talk to him.

"Hey, Fadingpaw!" She called to him, when the sun was just reaching its highest point in the sky. "C'mere, I wanna talk to you!"

User Image Fadingpaw was a strange cat, it seemed, no doubt. He was never interested in what other cats would have to say, more interested in chasing a non-existent tail or gnawing on whatever sticks were lying about. Inanimate objects seemed more his friends than anybody in his clan, except his mentor, of course, who he had slowly grown increasingly fond of. He had a tendency to snap at cats who got to close or act extremely uncomfortable and grumble until they left him alone.

One might think he should've simply left and become a loner, and, he must admit, the thought had flung around his mind a few times, but this clan was his home, and despite his lack of interest, he still didn't want to leave. And, anyway, he assumed he'd established his place as the 'don't approach' kind of cat by now, so he could usually go about his days in peace.

This day was, though, interrupted by someone who didn't seem to get the memo, though, he was pleasantly surprised it wasn't any of the other chatty apprentices or some random cat coming to scold him for being quiet. Actually, it was a cat he didn't think he'd spoken with before. That kit from the fox battle, right? Oh, seems so. Foxpaw, yeah. He didn't pay much attention to the clan drama and, in his view, it was just another shecat, not some often talked about cat with all this drama around her. He slowly rose to his paws, stretching with a yawn.

"What is it?" He asked, considerably less snappy than usual, but his tone still held a slight edge to it as he approached the young ginger apprentice.

Foxpaw blinked with subtle interest as the other approached and she beckoned him with a wave of her tail.
"It's boring here. Let's go out." She mewed to him. "Besides, Barkfang's not around." She'd already trained with her mentor that dawn. Surely Barkfang wouldn't come looking for her again, right? Besides, she had to make a "friend" to fit into the Clan, as per her mentor's suggestion. This would be okay to do, right?

"I shouldn't think Lostpath would mind." She went on. "What else are you doing? That's right: nothing worthwhile. C'mon." She started towards the entrance and glanced behind her. "It'll be an adventure or something." That's what apprentices were into these days, right? It was so hard to keep track, when the chatter of other apprentices just made her anxious.
