Although he was listening intently to what his friend had to say, the rambling essence of it started to throw him out of whack. Then, when Emiko started to act really scary, Toshiro nearly peed himself on the spot. Thankfully the moment passed, and Emiko returned to normal. But there was definitely something strange about what just happened. "Are you... sure you're okay?" He said hesitantly. "It-its not like I'm afraid or anything!" He lied, trying to not scare Emiko away in case she truly wasn't aware of what just happened. "It's just that... you didn't seem okay for a moment." Toshiro looked away as he tried to find the right words to say. "Maybe you need some rest! We did have a really long day." He turned back to her with a smile. The smile almost hid away all of the panic that was still within him that there was something wrong with his new friend. Almost....

Crap. He noticed. No way to explain her way out of this one. Emiko would nod, mentally chiding herself for letting control slip from her like that. The voice had obviously been getting more and more of her by the day. She hated to see what she would be like a week from now, based on the results today. "Yeah..." she answered, Toshiro smiling at him again...but soon Emi couldn't take it anymore. She turned to face him and would gaze at him apologetically. "I...need to tell you something." she began. "But you can't tell anybody. Promise?" She waited for him to agree before finally spilling the beans.
"When Uzugakure was destroyed, I did run away. I ran and ran, just tired of the life. My friends, my ninjas, even the kage. All dead or missing. I ran until I couldn't even feel my feet, but I returned one day for whatever reason. Just...something inside me. Then, I started noticing something." Emiko held her hands up to Toshiro for him to inspect. They were obviously ones of a healer, soft and untouched. "I used to be one of the medi-nin around the village. Healing, treating patients. But after I returned, I found that I couldn't even focus on a diagnosis jutsu. I lost all my ability...But I started to notice I could cast genjutsu without even thinking much of it. I never looked at people, fearing what hells I could put them in. It was like it came natural, before I could control it."
Another pause, but Emiko would slowly reach forward and hold onto Toshiro's hand. "If...I get that away again. Or ever. Can you promise to bring me back?" she asked. "I want to help you and your uncle however I can, but if this were to get worse...I don't want to become like her. I just can't..."

Toshiro broke from his fear as Emiko expressed her deepest concerns. It was clear that there was some deep pain inside of her, and the person she was becoming was someone she didn't want to become. Naturally Toshiro had little experience with this, as he was just a boy who had never known such hardships as losing your village, your people, your friends. But, he did know that people need each other, no matter what. "I have an idea!" Toshiro said as he reached around his neck and pulled off his flute. "You have to watch really carefully." Toshiro said as he proceeded to play a few notes. He moved his fingers slowly in order for Emiko to truly be able to follow. "There!" Now you try. He said as he passed her the flute. Recognizing how confused she would be, Toshiro clarified. "When we had to leave Zaishin, my uncle asked me why I took my flute. He thought I should take my mother's sword or her bracelet. I took her flute, however, because whenever I was really scared, my mother played that song for me. She told me no matter who you meet in the world, no matter how the world changes you, just listen to the song, and remember that you are still you. So, I am teaching you the song now so that when you get scared, you can play it, and remember that you're still you too, no matter what." Toshiro smiled as he raised a finger. "Obviously I'll need the flute back when we have the chance to buy you one. However, since we're a little short, you can just hold onto that one until we get to a town."

Indeed, Emiko watched as Toshiro reached for the flute on his neck and would play just a few notes on the musical instrument for her. The speed was much slower than he likely would have done before, so that she could absorb and follow along by herself. The pink eyes of the girl watch carefully. After he was done, the flute was given to her and she would give him a rather confused look. His explanation, even if a bit sentimental, did make sense even if just a little. Emi couldn't help but smile along with him, repeating the notes he had done very slowly. This was the first instrument that she had really ever even touched, so it was a steep learning curve for herself. It was repeated time and time again, picking up the pace before she could start to play it without any pauses whatsoever. She hated to admit it, but it was nice. A soothing melody which made her feel a little better. Even if it was just some old song.

Idle chat resumed until it was time to sleep. Toshiro, assisting his new friend, ensured that Emiko had a proper tent to sleep in with proper resting equipment. Thankfully she was able to be situated with a family who lost their oldest child when they escaped Zaishin, so with grief in their hearts they eagerly tended to any of the girl's needs. As dawn arose, Toshiro rose with the morning sun, almost as though he was empowered by it. He got dressed and headed for the tent area Emiko was stationed at. "Hey Emiko! Still in there?" He asked from the outside. If she was inside and changing, then he definitely did not want to intrude. "I was thinking that we could explore the land of water a bit more today. Since neither of us are native here, maybe we can find something useful." He said eagerly. In truth he felt in the depths of his heart that there would be nothing of true use in this area that the people native to the land wouldn't have plucked first. Still, having a chance to get away from the tent for a bit felt like the only idea he could to have some more fun with his friend.

The rest of the night went well, with Emiko being placed in the care of a couple who had sadly lost their only child to the departure of Zaishin. They practically babied her through the night, as she was about her age when they last saw her. Emi did feel awful about bringing back old wounds, but in the middle of the night, with everyone asleep, she recalled their greeting and hospitality. The warm meal they shared, talking...Emiko actually felt what she hadn't before in quite some time. At first she hesitated, but after much delay, the child allowed herself to cry. It felt nice to actually feel something from these people again. The girl sulked quietly until she was willed asleep by the exhaustion and tears combined, a smile planted on her face while she head of red hair leaned on a stale smelling pillow near the mouth of the tent.
Early in the morning, she was awoken and tended to again. The couple had something, a gift. Their older daughter's clothing from when she was a size or two near her own. She thanked the two profusely and would go to get dressed before being interrupted by the ever excitable Toshiro. "Gimme a minute. I'm almost ready." After a minute or so more, Emiko stepped out, dressed in the zaishin looking outfit and looking like the perfect daughter of a middle-ish family. She mocked a twirl and smiled for the blue haired nephew. His plan did sound nice. A perfect break from everything. Although a tad late in terms of scavenging, she was willing to be surprised if they did indeed find anything. "That sounds nice. I'd love to come with you."

Toshiro's eyes shone with a radiant light as Emiko stepped out. "Wow! You're as pretty as a ruby!" He said with a wide smile and clapped for the mock twirl she did. Emiko was certainly pleasant to be around, but now that she's had a night of honest rest it was clear that she was quite beautiful. He wondered why he didn't notice it before. However, now was time for the walk, and as the two moved forward, four armored guards followed from twenty feet behind. "Sorry for the security detail. Uncle Yusuke demanded that I be babysat if I ever left the tent." He said with a roll of his eyes. Despite not being truly combat trained, it was clear that the young boy was not afraid of going for a walk in the woods. After all, Emiko was a ninja, so clearly she would have the combat skills to help should anything happen. But, since there was nothing to do about it, Toshiro began talking. "So you said that you do genjutsu, right? Is that something which is commonly allowed for ninja to do?" He asked, as genjutsu in Zaishin culture had a lot of rules and regulations.

Emiko felt her cheeks redden a hue darker at the comment that Toshiro made about her, comparing her to a ruby. She did guess that it looked fairly jewel-like though with the current circumstances of Emi and her hygiene and cleanliness because of the road, it did take on a much grime ridden appearance which diminished the shine. "Thank you, Toshiro. But I wouldn't hold a light to that cute sapphire hair you have." The couple whom had given Emi the clothes would watch from afar and laughed to themselves at something. Emiko could only guess what that was exactly, and follow along with Toshiro as he led them out of the encampment of zaishin people...along with a few friends. Four armored guards trailed behind them, decked in an armor whose style that Emiko had not seen before. It did make sense given their status in the ninja world, but it could have been that she was just behind the times herself. There was very little experience she had in throwing a sword or weapon around without wasting energy trying to lift the thing."It's fine. Just more things to protect us if something bad happens, right?"
The talk became about genjutsu, which Emi nodded to knowing something about, at least. She was far from a master but had a good amount of knowledge amassed in the recent years. But what puzzled her was the wording behind his question. Allowed to do? Was Zaishin not the best supporter of her skillset or something? "It's not something everybody is good at, but most ninjas have some in their arsenal." she explained, walking alongside the boy. "But it's just like every other law, really. There are some which are locked away and are seemed too cruel to even consider learning, but many taught in class are just mind tricks. Concealing yourself or an item, tricking people into sensing something that isn't there. Just another tool to be used. There's not any real restrictions on typical ones. Why? Do they not like genjutsu in Zaishin?"

From the way it was described to her, genjutsu certainly wasn't viewed in the highest regard in terms of respect among Zaishin. Almost ironic that she stumbled and befriend the nephew of a clan who was composed of mainly people of "more noble" activities. The revelation caused the girl to reach for the flute that Toshiro had entrusted to her just the other day. It did make sense for the fear or skepticism towards genjutsu due to their perceived issues with yokai going around. "That makes sense, I guess." But then came the part about an arranged marriage? "The Seiryu clan isn't like that. We prefer to make matches of the clan in order for new bloodlines to combine with our clan techniques, since all Seiryu clan members have access to it." He said in response to Emiko's comment about forbidden marriages. "The Hogosha clan though, they're real sticklers for keeping their clan clean. But they're really old." Toshiro stopped walking as he surveyed the area. He saw a large boulder and pointed at it. "Like, see that rock right there? If a Hogosha was here, they would look at the rock and be like, "Oh I remember when it was just a little pebble."" He said as he did his best mock impression of an old man. He made himself laugh as he looked toward the sky. "But yeah. Ninja sure sound like you have a lot of freedom. I couldn't imagine what I would do if I had that much freedom." He said, referring to the close routed narrative of his life. His position as a royal heir to the Seiryu lineage made him chosen for a very select route. Granted, that route is on a rocky path, but he still imagined that his life would return to its railway destination once things returned to normal.

They came to a stop while Emiko would think on Toshiro's comment. "That's interesting. So if two people of two bloodlines marry and have a child in the Seiryu clan, would the child have access to both bloodlines?" She had very little knowledge of how such things worked in that context, though maybe he knew. The boy was already a literal fountain of knowledge in regards to a lot of other things Emi had not even a smudge of knowing they were even things to begin with. Toshiro pointed at a rock off in the distance which Emiko faced and would speak like one of those older men back in the retirement homes in Uzugakure. It made the girl stifle a laugh, the two youths sharing a moment of actual honesty and...well, acting their age. It was moments like this where Emiko could actually remember how old she was, instead of just mentally telling herself the answer was "old enough to serve." Toshiro came down and would explain how he almost seemingly envied the lifestyle of the ninja. It was kind of true, Emi thought. Being a prince really limited your life to such a degree where anything outside of a castle was likely foreign.

"Of course I can do two bloodlines! See?" He said, his palm open and a ball of light manifesting from it. Although his mother was married off to the Raiu head in order to appease the political unrest within the family, as the child of the first marriage Toshiro still had his father's bloodline, as well as his mothers. The light faded and his expression softened when Emiko started to let down his walls. He moved over to her and placed his hands on her shoulders. "That's not true! I mean, even if I go back, it's not like you won't be coming with me." He said, trying to force himself to smile. "I mean, we're friends right? You said that you don't have a village anymore, and I don't have a Zaishin anymore. So if we are able to return home, then you can just make home with us!" He said jovially. He knew that Emiko's heart was heavy, but that didn't mean that she had to be alone with its weight. As long as Toshiro was there, he was sure that Emiko wouldn't have to be alone.

Emiko would sniffle at feeling Toshiro's hands on her shoulders, wiping her tear filled eyes again as she frowned to his explanation. The idea of traveling with Toshiro and having a home after so long felt nice, but there was still that ever present fear of abandonment. The voice had always been right. She would outlive her usefulness to these people and they would leave her in the swamps here to die. "Y-You think people would want me there?" she asked. "Even knowing that I'll never be like the rest of you? And a genjutsu user at that? SOmebody that won't ever be able to pick up a sword?"

You can follow the path of the illusionist (illusory focus), enchanter/enchantress (enchantment focus), trickster (instance focus), or conjurer (chain focus). Selecting a Path grants [3] additional custom slots and [1] keystone for techniques of that category. Genjutsu that are cast by those of this specialization are more efficient as according to the user's body rank, all Genjutsu are [10] Chakra cheaper to perform with the user's specialized Focus are further reduced by another [5] Chakra per body rank. No cost can be lower than a minimum of [5] Chakra. Once every other post all three of the genjutsu specialist's activations in a post can be used for genjutsu.
โณ Master of Deception: With genjutsu, realism and the sensory ability of the target factor heavily into the ability of the victim to realize they are in a genjutsu. The illusionist chooses [1] Sense of Specialization that will render a genjutsu cost [1] rank less if the casted genjutsu's primary sense is their specialization. Genjutsu that use the illusionist's Sense of Specialization as the primary sense become resistant to the sensory powers of sages and non-Infinite Perception discipline scholars. This resistance means that the genjutsu will go unnoticed from these abilities. Since the illusionist has become so adept in their Sense of Specialization they may always weave it into genjutsu as an Additional Sense unless it would bring the illusion's sensory control above the [5] limit. The illusionist may also always select any Additional Sense that is not their Sense of Specialization to add to a genjutsu as long as it does not exceed the cap of [5] manipulated senses.
Sense of Specialization: Sound โณ Lasting Hypnosis: The user's genjutsu prowess has achieved a heightened level of potency and lingers for longer. The primary sense of any genjutsu that was released using Kai lingers for [1] additional post. This residual effect is minor because the manipulation of the target with the technique has ended. For example, a complete darkness sight genjutsu that was dispelled may leave the lingering feeling that the world is still a bit darker than it is in reality. If a genjutsu used a mental status effect then it will linger for [1] post longer at one level below what it was before at a minimum of level one. Originally level one mental status effects are too weak to linger. The base duration of your genjutsu are increased by [1] post at E-C, [2] at B-A, and [3] at S and above. Instance genjutsu are not affected by an increase of duration but instead cannot be dispelled by kai and only by pain. Genjutsu upkeep lessens by [5] Chakra per body rank and non-Instant are applied with overwhelming, requiring lingering genjutsu to use [1.5x] the resource to Kai.

Wide eyes an expression of fear rested on Toshiro's face as Emiko's eyes resumed to normal. Although he was listening intently to what his friend had to say, the rambling essence of it started to throw him out of whack. Then, when Emiko started to act really scary, Toshiro nearly peed himself on the spot. Thankfully the moment passed, and Emiko returned to normal. But there was definitely something strange about what just happened. "Are you... sure you're okay?" He said hesitantly. "It-its not like I'm afraid or anything!" He lied, trying to not scare Emiko away in case she truly wasn't aware of what just happened. "It's just that... you didn't seem okay for a moment." Toshiro looked away as he tried to find the right words to say. "Maybe you need some rest! We did have a really long day." He turned back to her with a smile. The smile almost hid away all of the panic that was still within him that there was something wrong with his new friend. Almost....
