Name: Nakhtho
Age: 28
Nameday: 3547.11.12
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual;
Craft: Assassin, Originally trained as a Diplomat
Rank: Journeyman
Location: High Reaches Weyr, Working Under one of the Masters there
Physical Description: Nakhtho has a striking appearance. Ginger hair is normally worn short and smoothed back in some way off of his high forehead, the bone ridges around his eyes, as well as his cheeks are a bit more pronounced then usual. The bearer of an aquiline nose and slightly thin lips with a neatly trimmed ginger beard.

The man stands at six foot four inches tall and has a broad frame, though his muscles are not on display, making him seem to not be as strong as he is. Living on the Northern Continent his skin is a bit pale, perhaps a bit paler then normal.

Though the most striking thing about Naktho is the fact that his right eye is a lovely hazel and his left eye is a milky clouded blue.
Personality: Nakhtho has always oozed confidence from every pore of his body. It doesn't matter if this confidence was justified or even real, he was sure of the fact that it fit him. He isn't one to break easily and doesn't think there is really anything that he cannot stand up to or try. He'll do his best and his best, of course, is the best. He will push this confidence onto others, especially those he is close to, believing that they can do it if they just put their all into it, or even believe a bit more in themselves.

A man of action, Nakhtho has always looked for and craved adventure. Staying in one place for too long begins to make him restless as well, causing him to move from place to place looking for the next greatest thrill or job for him to do. There isn't anything too hard, or even scary that Nakhtho won't try to tackle and he dreams of seeing more and more of the world as he can. Being a bit of an adventurer doesn't just lend to his movements or risk taking, this man isn't worried about who he might fall into bed with either. It's all a part of the fun to see where the dice fall, where the adventure takes him. He isn't known to settle down or even make many long term connections either. He worries about getting too close to people and suffers from fears of commitment.

Nakhtho was not always a loner but he has found it's the easiest way to keep himself safe and from being too vulnerable towards others.

Through everything, Nakhtho is a very intelligent young man. He spent a lot of his time learning with his head in books but focused his mind more on the rationality of everything. Emotions do not come into his framing of problems and ideas very easily, he chooses to focus upon how things will be effected with the choices he makes. With the line of work he follows it makes the job a bit easier to not think of the emotions involved after all.

Positive Trait List Confident, Adventurous, Rational Thinker
Negative Trait List Flighty, Loner, Callous
History: The younger twin born to the Cotholder of a small Cothold beholden to High Reaches Hold, Nakhtho had more choices to move forward with his life then his elder brother. Trained by the Harpers who frequented their halls Nakhtho was praised for his enthusiasm for knowledge as well as his brains. Nakhtho spent a lot of his younger turns taking in all the information he could, as well as exploring his father's cothold. He drove his mother crazy as he climbed and crawled within the cothold's walls, always finding new areas to explore.

When he was of age, Nakhtho decided he wanted to see more of what the world had to offer and became an apprentice at the courtesan hall. Journeying to the Western Continent, the farthest he had ever been to his home, Nakhtho found the urge to leave, to run towards the next adventure had been quenched for the moment. Once more Nakhtho threw himself into his studies, enjoying learning new

Hey Bastet!

So a few things.... PLEASE FORGIVE THE NOVEL! I like the character you've got, we just need to hash out some details. <3 Don't give up on him! We can work with what you started just need to... clear and adjust a few hurdles.

1. Diomedes is clearly a Greek name and not particularly Pernese. Is it possible to play with it a bit and come up with some Pernified version? Some versions I would allow would be: Diomed, Dhiomes, etc. Just something similar but a little more Pernified?

2. I think you're going to have to go through and purge some of the absolutes in his personality. "an ability to pick up certain details about someone" or "formulate a deduction". Is he meant to be like Sherlock? To me that's not intelligence or even manipulation but more of a strong power-of-observation. The same with one upping those he goes up against. You're assuming that he's the most clever man in the room--and that's just not fair as a shop. I understand you mention that his plans don't always work, but I feel like we need to tone that down a little to make it work in a shop setting. You also would need to ensure that the player/person you're writing with is OK with your character deducing things that might not otherwise be known, or being one one-upped fairly.

Unfortunately, this also goes into his ability to manipulate. You talk about him having "always" had a tendency to turn people's head and minds and that just doesn't seem right, either. This whole ability to get people to listen to him is just written in a way that's still a little too on-the-nose for the shop. Any character can be manipulative even without training. All he needs to do is know how to twist words, or offer false-comfort or promises; find a weakness and be willing to exploit it. Perhaps instead of polite this man's charming? That at least would be one way to get others to pay him extra mind--or at least might help explain how he's often turning those heads.

Additionally, you mention he has this morality keeping him away from women, children, and elderly--unfortunately, as an Assassin in the Courtesan Hall, if they give him a target that falls under one of those lists, he'll have no choice but to follow the order. Remember, at this point in time, he is under the rule of the Courtesan Hall and the Master Courtesan of Pern and the Masters. He doesn't get to simply roam where he pleases (like it's mentioned in his history). He instead will be going to Holds and Halls where the Courtesan Hall sends him. It's what being a Journeyman is. It's possible the Hall agreed to let him return to the Northern Continent but remember, he's likely getting assigned work from the Hall/Masters--not simply walking around like a gun for hire. Especially in this field, Pern wouldn't just allow known killers-for-hire run around without being kept on a short leash. And you can bet if an assassin starts to go rogue, they will be put down quickly. Primarily, he's likely going out there AS a diplomat or some sort of guard.

Pern in general is "old-world" as you describe. wink So his manners and politeness aren't outdated--that's what's expected.

Also, you mention he was born into a middle class family in High Reaches cothold, but is he also the son of the Cotholder? Because there is a difference and it's not really made clear. :3 Though I come to understand that when I read about his brother inheriting the Hold.

When did Diomedes walk the tables? His timeline isn't very clear. Once again, his history needs adjusting because as an assassin he'll be taking assignments from his Masters and trying to make his way. That said, he could and would likely be called to go to different places, or to guard certain individuals--and periodically take down individuals quietly and without much fuss.

Also, how does he plan on getting to the Weyr for the Hatching? Hatchings aren't simply open for anyone to attend. They may invite Lord Holders but don't have to--Gansley certainly isn't often invited to attend. That said, they would have to be on very friendly terms tow warrant an invitation. Is someone in his family (younger brother? Niece or nephew?) a Candidate? Will he be stationed at High Reaches Weyr for a small stint to teach some diplomatic studies for weyrbrats (and perhaps quietly be in talks with some of the Master Assassins that are stationed there)?
