Among the tall grass and taller trees a slice of orange could be spotted, standing out in contrast to its lush surroundings. The painted horn itself was firmly attached to an individual who had gotten lost in thought, the mouths in his palms chewing idly on hunks of clay. There were many different locations in konoha but over the last few years that he had settled here the Maple Meadows always found its way to the top of his list for a spot to craft. Whether it was crafting with his clay or crafting with his sake it was easy to find an isolated spot to sit down and work in peace.

Around Jaque sat a scattering of different instruments. Scalpels, shaping tools, beakers and flasks, almost all of his crafting implements were on display across a well worn blanket. He had already made quite a few clay sculptures as well as a few new brews but he had finally started to peter out of his creative drive for the day. He had graduated from the academy perhaps a month or so ago and hadn't quite gotten around to actually starting on his shinobi career. He had polished up his skills and made sure he had plenty of training done but had just been pacing himself before he got into the thick of it. A part of him was a bit ancy if he was honest, being a medic and all meant he was supposed to be there to support others. The thought of letting someone down always frightened Jaque but it was on a whole other level now.

Oh well! For better or worse he was going to get started and hopefully meet new people once he did. He only had a few close friends as of yet, not everyone was comfortable with someone who held such a stark appearance as he did, but he knew if he got out there he could break through that social awkwardness and get his name well known to all. Perhaps giving out booze might help. The local taverns had a decent brew but every oni thought they knew the best way to brew things, and Jaque was no different in that. Maybe it needed a few more pinches of fire root....

                                                                                          kiiwispoet

The trees in the meadow groaned under the activity of Kai as he leapt from one to another. His tree-hopping was meant to spark some inspiration for his latest writing project, but his kinesthetic thinking didn't leave so much room for active concentration, leading him to miss a branch and collapse ungracefully into the tall grass.

"Oof," he grunted as he faceplanted. He got up quickly, wiping off the dirt and grass stuck to his clothes, though the grass stains would remain. He turned his head to see a strange looking ninja with a series of supplies in front of him. "Neato. What're those?" He asked, getting close without any natural social hesitation, gesturing to some of the beverage making tools. "You doin' science stuff out here?"

The sound of shifting trees had been slowly bringing Jaque to an attentive state, which was fully snapped to when a branch decided to do the same and greet him with sudden company. Almost immediately Jaque was to his feet, concern blossoming inside him for the fallen stranger. Such a tumble from that height risked all kinds of minor injuries and his medic brain was already racing as he started to catch full sight of who had fallen.

More alarm bells started to ring for a few mixed reasons. The stranger was quite young, much younger than he was in fact, yet he wore a shinobi headband. It wasnโ€™t unheard of of course for genin and the like to be at a very young age but it had always made Jaque uncomfortable when he saw it. In his mind children should be able to grow up playing and enjoying the simple things of life, not getting roped into wars and be given the pressure of duties. These lines of thought pretty much set Jaque into caring mother mode instantly, even if he lacked the goods to actually be a mom. It was all so overpowering as to make him completely ignore that the kid actually wasnโ€™t scared of him.

Now Jaque had differing reactions from people it seemed in the village, especially the younger ones. Some were elated to see such a strange appearance while others were scared off, there didnโ€™t tend to usually be a middle ground. He had actually gotten his face tattoos and his horn painted to try to make his appearance less startling overall. It hadโ€ฆ.somewhat worked.

โ€Oh these? They are for making sake, that drink that adults love to indulge in from time to time. Though I had completely forgotten what brew I was working on if Iโ€™m honest, I was too busy sculptingโ€ Jaque said, his hands quickly swiping away the brewing equipment behind his back before bringing his hands back around. To show what he meant by sculpting he displayed his open palms to the boy and revealed the mouths that were set in either one. The serrated teeth parted open and a tongue lulled out lazily, spitting forth a couple of small clay dulls. They were simple and only had a few designs to them but Jaque thought they were cute. They also could have been made to be explosive if he so chose but before he had unveiled them he stopped that part of the process.

                                                                                          kiiwispoet

Kai made a face as the ninja mentioned sake, nose crinkling at the thought. "I've tried that before on accident. It doesn't taste very good," he commented unhelpfully. He did perk up at the mention of sculpting, though physical art wasn't his preferred medium. He gaped at the reveal of hand-mouths. "Whoa. Can you talk out of those?" He asked stupidly, grabbing one of the clay dolls without asking and without any hesitation that he might not like having his things taken.

Kai examined the small markings on the doll before giving an appreciative hum. "Okay. These are pretty cool. You don't make these to look like yourself?" He squinted at the doll before appraising the medic's face openly. "If I was good at sculpting, I'd make a bunch of me's. They'd be good for my fans. Y'know, when I build up my fanbase." He jutted a thumb to his chest and grinned. "I'm gonna be a super talented rapper some day. The crowds here at Konoha will scream 'Kai Uchiha the Greatest' when I debut."

Remembering the weight of his headband, he somewhat sheepishly adjusted it before looking back at the medic. "After I do all this ninja stuff Mom wants me to do, that is."

Jaque was relieved that the boy already knew that sake wasnโ€™t exactly the best brew to drink if you werenโ€™t used to it. He wasnโ€™t sure what the drinking age in Konoha was but he was sure that someone as young as this should not be drinking any. When he was older though Jaque had to make sure that he got an actually good brew, his inner oni was already bristling at just the thought of bad sake.

In response to his question his extra mouths clacked their teeth together as he shook his head in the negative. โ€No but they can definitely chomp and lickโ€ Jaque answered as he watched the boy inspect one of his creations. The question that got thrown at him wasnโ€™t one that he was expecting but it made more sense as the boy continued on. Apparently he had bigger inspirations than just being a shinobi. It made Jaque smile brightly. It also made Jaque realize that he had just gotten this boy's name and he had yet to introduce himself.

โ€Kai Uchiha aye? Havenโ€™t had a chance to meet an uchiha yet. My name is Jaque Parintalia, I come from the Oni clans and the clay sculptures. If you ever need a line of figurines or a line of drink with your name on it Iโ€™m your manโ€ Jaque expressed, offering one of his hands to shake. Its mouth snapped closed of course and its lips went down so that there was only a thin line where the mouth sat.

โ€Did you graduate then from the academy recently Kai? I only just got out a little while ago. I havenโ€™t even been assigned into a squad yet haha, kind of just burning time until then. Iโ€™ve even been to busy sculpting and brewing to get to know much about our superiors hereโ€

                                                                                          kiiwispoet

"Nice to meet you, Jaque!" He stuck his hand out for a handshake before his mind could helpfully supply him with the recent memory of Jaques' hand-mouths. It took a moment, but once the thought connected, Kai put his hand back in his pocket and grinned instead, his other hand still occupied by holding a clay doll. "A line of drinks? That's cool. I really like strawberry lemonade," he said, not connecting the dots that Jaque was moreso referring to alcoholic beverages he wouldn't be able to drink.

"I graduated not too long ago," Kai admitted proudly, putting his hands on his hips and grinning. "I graduated early. I wasn't so good at the formal studies but they said I had good hand-eye coordination and chakra control. They recommended I study some iryojutsu once I graduated, so I have... but it's not as interesting as rapping is." Kai thought carefully about what Jaque said about a squad. He hadn't even thought about the fact that he wasn't assigned one.

"Two isn't enough for a squad, but we could probably handle some missions together. Y'know, if you were interested in making some ryo for your sculpture stuff."

Tsubaki
"The Carrier of Hope"

Though it had been a while, the bit of forest here in Konoha was still quite the same. Tsubaki paced about the tall trees, eventually finding a quiet place away from any paths. She sat down on the ground, and leaned back against a tree; feeling everything around her with her newly acute senses. She is now a Sage, and the world feels so much more... real because of it. For a while she simply sat there, breathing as she felt the trees breathe; as she felt the birds in the air and in the boughs. As she noticed a doe a few dozen meters away, she simply sat in quiet focus. Just... breathing...

While spending his time in his thoughts, Hiroshi had not realized that he was in a forest full of beautiful maple trees and wondrous nature. Upon smelling the scent, he stopped for a bit and jumped to the ground. โ€œTrees, huh,โ€ he said as he thought of his family and how similar the area looked to where they stayed. โ€œAnyway, there's no time to be wasted,โ€ he said as clasped his hands together, gathering chakra. As he had done this, roses, tulips, and dandelions began to grow rapidly around him within a several-foot radius. โ€œInteresting. Mom said this is what dad did to show her how much he loved her when they were kids,โ€ he began laughing at the memories of the stories his parents told him about their first meeting. Hiroshi then used some more chakra as he created several shrubs that surrounded the flowers he had just made. โ€œThis place is almost as beautiful as home,โ€ he said as he smiled and stood aright and smiled, looking to the sky. After a few moments of reminiscing, he realized that he did not have any time to waste.

Hiroshi, after learning the absolute basic of the Senju techniques, formed a double hand seal as he began channeling chakra once more. From his body came a makeshift wooden sword that came after a few moments. โ€œThat's one way to do it. The other way should be...โ€ he threw the sword in the air and clasped his hands together again. As the wooden sword began to fall, wooden, spear-like projectiles grew from his shoulders and arms as he released them towards the sword that had been falling and subsequently split it in half with one of the projectiles as the others hit the trees nearby. โ€œThat can be quite dangerous,โ€ Hiroshi stood upwards and raised his hand to his head, trying to remember the next technique he learned about from his father.

โ€œRight! I remember now,โ€ he said as he hit his hands together. โ€œHow could I forget something so useful?โ€ Hiroshi began to amass chakra in his right arm and extended it forward as it grew into a multitude of thick, wooden branches that extended only 10 feet forward despite Hiroshi trying to make them grow any further. He retracted his arm until it became it's regular size again before performing the technique with his left hand, but this time he aimed towards the tree to his left and wrapped the thick branches he had for arms around it, grasping it tightly. He shook the tree a little to test the techniques strength and it moved the tree slightly to the left and right. Hiroshi retracted his left arm to it's original size and looked at the sky as he saw it had been getting late. โ€œUgh... who knows how long I have left? I need to hurry out of here,โ€ he said as he jumped to the trees and flickered back to the village.

Laughter. Midori leaned against the firm trunk of one of the trees. Her ears picked up the laughter as she saw some young children, possibly preteens, leaving the area. A few of them had some hiccups and it was obvious with their loud and boisterous giggles, they had got into something they shouldn't. Midori wasn't here for the children. No, she was here for the forest and was waiting on the children to leave. Their laughter fades as their noisy footsteps on the ground below helped Midori to figure out that they had left the edge of the forest and into the village. Bent her knees, she hopped down with her knees still slightly bent to help absorb the impact when her feet met with the ground. Reached into one of her hidden pockets, she got out a rather large netting bag made to put trash in it. Slowly, one by one, she started to pick up the trash that children, even perhaps, adults had left lying around.

Her hazel hues noticed an area with damage. Someone had been training here. The destruction had left behind nothing. Just a huge brown spot and smoldering ashes of the trees. Midori paused for a moment with a soft, "Hmm," while putting the net full of trash by an area. She started to pat down her body as if she was looking for something. Then, she found it, a small black bag, soft rattles, and shifts of hard solids can be heard in the bag. Squat down, Midori opened the bag and dumped its contents, to anyone who had some common knowledge of seeds, they would notice it's a pile of seeds. Placed her hand onto the ground, spiders started to emerge from her body, picked up a seed, and went to work with other spiders in the area to plant them. Midori wasn't going to let her friends do all the work as she started to scoop up the dirt with her hand and make sure the seed would be at the proper depth.

As the laughter of the group of rowdy children began fading into the distance, Somir's glare caught their forms. He had just recently entered the park in an effort to find a quiet place to rest, but after seeing the damage they had left behind, and the litter after further inspection, he decided this wasn't going to be a restful visit. His walk seemed listless. As if the act of taking another step would be the death of him. All the same he inspected the ground below some of the nearby trees in order to look for any seeds that they may have dropped that day. It was then that he noticed another individual, a woman, he didn't realize was there.

Somir watched her a moment as she produced a couple of items from somewhere unseen, using the first as a receptacle for the trash those brats had left behind, and the other... Well, seeds. Just what Somir was looking for. He cautiously maneuvered towards her, in open view so she didn't think he was sneaking up on her. When his eyes caught the numerous spiders leaving her form, his eyebrows raised in confusion, but all the same made careful steps forwards to ensure he didn't step on any. "Neat trick," he said, hinting at the arachnids she was working with. He pointed at the seeds. "Got any more of those?"

Midori had a feeling that she was perhaps being followed or was it just the trickery of the forest? Right on cue, a figure approached as she watched him while covering up a hole she had dug earlier. The hazel eyes caught the shiny konoha headband and figured that he was one of the shinobi of the Hidden Leaf Village. The raised eyebrow in confusion didn't faze her, just as she was learning new things about Konohagakure, she figured that maybe to some, she was new to them. Trick? Her eyes gazed down at the spiders that were moving out of his way and went back to her body while he pointed at the seeds and asked if she had more of those. "Oh um." She said with a smile behind the mask as she stood up, "Are you wanting to help or perhaps, you have something else in mind?" She asked him, "I feel I should caution you... those are basic tree seeds, not vegetables or fruits..." She explained, wasn't sure what was on his mind or his knowledge on the seeds if he has any. Midori was now curious if he wanted to grow a garden or something of some sort.

Great, just the mention of fruits, Midori had found herself craving for some now.

As the spider's made their way back to the lady he was speaking to, Somir's eyes narrowed a bit, straining as he mentally rummaged through the things he had learned since settling in Konoha. In the academy they had mentioned some of the ways in which shinobi differ, and one of their examples dealt with bugs. "Amu... Aku.... Abu.... Abu-ra-me?" His voice was quieter than before, as his query wasn't necessarily intended to be answered, but it was still posed loud enough to be heard. His pink eyes were focused elsewhere, somewhere in the air above them, and he almost missed her question. Somir's head cocked to the side when what she was saying registered in his brain.

"Yeah, I was gonna help," his hand lifted to point one of his thumbs behind him. "I tried finding some under a few of the trees back there, but I'm guessing the critters around here already got to them all."' A simple shrug was the immediate reply to her comment about the type of seeds they were. "Tree seeds are exactly what I'm lookin' for." A quick visual scan of the destruction and garbage around them, his eyes shifting from a pink hue to a deep red as they moved out of the light. "It's a damn shame." A tinge of anger crept into the tone of his voice.

A gasp was heard as she laughed and scratched the back of her head, "I do apologize, yes, I am an Aburame, my name is Midori. Pleased to meet you." She half bowed in greeting towards the man. Then she scratched her cheeks, "They weren't supposed to take all of them..." her voice trailed off, gently chiding towards her spiders as they made weird critter-ly like noises at her. "No matter, more will fall." With that, the spiders resumed helping with the digging. She squatted down and took some seeds from the pile and approached the male. She heard him as she gently smiled behind the mask, not even sure if he can see it. "And how is it a damn shame?" She questioned him, wondering what his thoughts were and seeing if she can help him be at peace.

Somir's obvious displeasure mostly subsided as the woman approached him. He gestured to the charred ground. "Nature deserves more than this." Somir had spent a long time out in the wild. To him, it was home. He had come to appreciate the Leaf Village, and he knew that living within its walls was better than fending for oneself out in the harsh wilderness. That didn't change his past, or the comfort he felt when surrounded by trees and foliage. He bent down to grab a couple pieces of litter before chuckling to himself. I'm Somir. Good to meet you, Midori. I don't know much about you Aburame folk, but those spiders sure seem to like you," Referencing the response she had gotten from the little creatures a moment before.

His manner of speaking was rough and undignified. He had only experienced a small amount of human interaction, compared to most at least, so he didn't have enough practice in conversation to articulate his words very well. That alone would be enough to reveal himself as a less-than-book-smart individual. Somir changed topics as he strained his eyes to scan the ground beneath some of the nearby trees for any fresh seeds they may have dropped since he last looked. "If you don't mind my asking, what brings you out here?"

Midori remained quiet as he gestured towards the burnt ground with disdain. Claiming nature deserved more than this. She rose an eyebrow when he mentioned that the spiders seemed to like her and had admitted that he doesn't know much about Aburame. Well. There was the possibility of him being surprised later. But first things first. "I do agree when two people fight or someone being careless, sometimes it's the innocents that get in the way. But you know my favorite part about nature?" She questioned him with a smile behind the mask as she squatted down and shifted over to her side, her hand reached out and brushed away a pile of ash and there was a bright green little stem sticking out. "She persists. The best thing we can do is teach others not to be careless, but she always persists. Eventually, she'll outlive us all. I like to think she'll have the last laugh." She chuckled softly.

She stood up and shrugged. "I have a habit coming out here and clean up. Sometimes plant seeds when something like this happens. It's also good to help the village instead of fighting off whatever was happening. It's also good just to... be away from people for a bit." Words that Midori never thought she would say. She was constantly around people until the incident. At least it taught her a lot. "What about you? What brought you out here to the forest?"
