Named after the myth of Betatsuku, legend has it that a putrid old man named Betatsuku lived in a nearby village. Betatsuku's wife had long since died, and he had no surviving children to look after him. Day by day Betatsuku became more senile and more hostile.

Until one day Betatsuku no longer saw himself as human, and as such no longer was. Fearing what he'd become a mob of simple folk chased Betatsuku out of the village, and into the swamp lands.

It is said that amidst his demonic screams, Betatsuku placed a curse on this land, causing an influx of poisonous plants and animals to flock here.

• Increase the cost of all techniques by [30].

[Tier 3 ] Mental Stress
• Reduces techniques with post durations by a maximum of [6] posts until cured or the stress-inducing genjutsu is dispelled.

Leaping from tree to tree, Nanyo would arrive at the swamplands. "Ugh..." The smell of the bog was absolutely atrocious. In fact it had the lingering stink of death. Scanning the area, Nanyo had gotten complaints about this bog claiming that it was cursed.

Being the skeptic, Nanyo wasn't much for the supernatural. Regardless he would venture outward into the bog. His objective was to scout the area. Find clues of whatever was out here causing all this trouble and apprehend it.

He had heard rumors of spirits attacking men in the past, but it seemed that the prevalence of such rumors was beginning to re-surge.

Nanyo's gaze certainly saw nothing. He could look left, right, up, or down, and the answer would be the same. Of course, if his eyes were to activate with the crimson hues of his sharingan, then he would easily see that he stepped into the territory of three elongated dog spirits. The nine feet noodle like canines slithered through the air as the foolish man continued to encroach. One dog, the one on Nanyo's far left, decided to act. A gale of wind fired as a warning shot toward the man. The blast was designed to push him away and leave him with multiple like cuts, but it was not designed to kill. No, despite the warnings in this location, these Yokai were not looking to eat. What they wanted was something completely separate from usual animistic instincts.

While leaping, a chakra signature would stand out to the talented Uchiha. Wandering off deep into uncharted territory Nanyo was the one whom was actively seeking these foul unworldly beasts. Due to his Sharingan and his proficiency for sensory Nanyo wouldn't be caught by surprise so easily. "Left side!!!" Nanyo would shout using his [7] agility Nanyo would easily position himself in a manner to counter the incoming wind blast.

Though the exact details of the attack were unclear to himself. Nanyo prepared counter measures, with his potential for 1 handed hand seals. The Uchiha would respond to the incoming wind release with a great fireball jutsu. "Katon: Gōkakyū no Jutsu!" Channeling a mass of black flame Nanyo would expel a 10 foot fireball moving at Rank 3 speed.

As it would make contact with the wind ninjutsu, the black fireball would nearly immediately overtake the jutsu due to the elemental superiority. Bolstered by the wind Nanyo's fire would increase in power before continuing on it's flight path.

After forming the necessary handsigns the user inhales, holding their handsign at their lips before releasing a fireball measuring ten feet in size. This fireball travels up to thirty feet or until impacting a target. Upon impact, the fireball explodes, causing tier two burning and burns to those within a thirty foot radius.

As the fire collided with the tornado, the blaze did not spread beyond it as anticipated. Instead, the fire, which was only of C-ranked, was a counterbalanced to the combined B-ranked merging of the two C-ranked attacks. This resulted in the yokai managing to make their way to their wounded ally, and disappear into a spiraling breeze.

Watching as one of the wind dogs drop admits a bed of fire. Nanyo's sharingan would detect movement from the other 2 before he could reach him. "Hmm?" Watching patiently Nanyo would examine the way that the yokai were able to utilize their chakra in order to cast ninjutsu. Watching the formation of the wind tornado, Nanyo took this time to learn more about these newly emerging masses of chakra.

While the yokai were made from natural chakra, they focus heavily on Yin chakra. Being illusions of nightmarish creatures which couldn't exist logically within their world. Seeing now for himself that these rumors weren't just rumors Nanyo decided these creatures needed to be examined further.

With a single hand Nanyo was able to prep a ninjutsu counter, he just had to get a feeling for what exactly his opponent was doing. As the blades of wind began to cut into his clothing reveling the true nature of the technique. Their would be no better que for Nanyo to activate his counter.

"Kaen Senpuu..."

Suddenly and almost instantaneously, the wind tornado would be completely engulfed in fire. Becoming a swirling black mass of devastation. As the yokai attempted to help their wounded, the 25 foot tall spiral of flame would begin descending upon them with [rank 3] speed!

It would be now that the Yokai would realize that their brethren was helpess, they would soon discover that Nanyo's ominous black flames were no joke. The area in which the yokai was struck with the initial fireball would continue to burn for [1] post due to Nanyo's psudo-ameterasu like ability.

It was quite queer, Nanyo's ability to mold and manipulate black fire. An ability he mastered at an alarming rate with devastating results.

Emerging from the blade tornado with minor cuts, and hurt pride. Nanyo would step forth to realize that his prey had escaped him. Not matter, it only confirmed the existence of these supernatural entities. As the dog spirits vanished, Nanyo decide it best to return to the village and heal. With the poison of the trudge it was best to avoid unnecessary risks.

"Day 13: I've been hearing strange noises again in the swamp." Nanyo would say to himself scribbling in his field journal. Sometime after his healing he ventured back to the swamps, he'd been camping in the tree tops for 13 days, hunting yokai whom appear in the swampland. The trudge was a large marshland that surrounded the shaded woods. An area within the ruins of Gimangakure. Nanyo didn't want to assume anything but he'd been hearing rumors of the ruins being curse.

Could this be true? After his scrap with the dog spirits Nanyo did more planning and returned more prepared to deal with the task at hand, although venturing into Gimangakure may prove to be much too dangerous for one shinobi.
