Physical Description: Gangly and lean from youth, Sioryl is a whip of a boy that packs a surprising amount of spunk in his slim frame. He'll eventually grow into his height and fill out a bit, but he'll always have the body of a runner. He is a touch olive in complexion which he unknowingly uses to his benefit, rarely burning despite long hours out in the warm sun. An unruly mop of light brown hair is almost always falling in his eyes no matter then length of his hair. He prefers to keep it short enough to not have to deal with it but on occasion it does grow long enough to tie back in a short tail. His eyes are a startlingly bright green, rich in color and captivating to look at.
Sioryl isn't too concerned with how he dresses and will wear anything that is given to him, but he has a strong preference for neutral colors. Bright things are fun to look at but not to wear. His knuckles and fingertips have small scars from the few years he has under his belt from working with his hands and he has a fairly fresh scar across his jaw from his new firelizard friend.
Personality: Nothing in life seems to drag Sioryl down no matter how big or how small. He sees every setback as a chance to improve and to learn something new, taking failure and disappointment in stride. While he hasn't had a terribly difficult life he's certainly faced his own trials and tribulations, playing with the hand life dealt him with surprising skill. Whenever he's knocked down he gets right back up and charges back into the fray with a grin on his face no matter how many times he's been put on his rump. Combining his resilient nature with his thirst for adventure while smiling down danger makes for a very explosive young man, one who isn't afraid to risk everything to make things happen. He's been known to take risks that far outweigh the reward and he's given his surrogate mother plenty of near heart attacks in his youth. Sioryl understands when danger is present but he'll charge ahead anyway, thriving off the adrenaline and thrill of walking that narrow line between success and failure.
Sioryl's resilient, daring ways are only enhanced by his genuine energy and enthusiasm for life. He makes the most of every moment, taking failures and losses as experiences well learned and using them to his benefit later on. He's always ready with a grin and to cheer up others that are down in the dumps, his laugh infectious and his grin charming. His boundless energy makes him a bit hard to keep up with but his buoyant nature draw others in like flies to honey. Sioryl's outlook on life is sunny and the glass is always half full when he's the one looking at it. Very little gets this young man down and he is always quick to find the silver lining in any trouble that may arise. If you need someone to cheer you up and give you a bit of energy, Sioryl is just the guy for the job.
Despite all his good intentions, Sioryl is incredibly unrealistic where certain matters are concerned. While it's nice to try to find something good about every situation, sometimes having expectations or dreams that are implausible is only setting one up for failure. Sioryl truly believes he can do anything he puts his mind to which can lead him down endless paths of growing frustration. His daring ways can often tip into the reckless and rash side of things, his imagination and dreams taking him away from reality to put himself and others in needless danger. While he is a cheerful and fun person to be around, he gets so caught up in his own ideas and wants that others are often accidentally pushed to the side and, in turn, are put at risk of physical or emotional harm from his devil-may-care attitude.
While not obtuse, Sioryl is very quick to believe anything people tell him. He doesn't stop to think someone may lie to him to gain something for themselves and will happily go along with a lie unknowingly. He also won't question someone if something doesn't add up, he'll just assume he misunderstood and will go along with whatever that person says. It has lead to him getting in trouble in the past when other hold kids would use him to steal cakes before dinner or by going along with a lie his younger 'brother' would tell his surrogate mother. Sioryl will usually fall for the same trick a few times from the same person but he does eventually learn to be wary around those who have fooled him over and over again. Finally, underneath all the energy and daring do, Sioryl wants. It's not something he's really aware of at this point, but his subconscious is always crying out for something, whether it's attention, a new possession, or something else completely and, when he gets what he wants, he covets it like a miser. When there is something he desperately craves and he gets it you'll pry it out of his cold, dead hands before he gives it up. This particular trait doesn't rear its head often, but when it does it is almost an obsession for Sioryl. Usually his wants are more abstract and emotion-based rather than possession based, but anyone who enters a friendship or relationship with him will notice his possessive tendencies. It can be suffocating and can very well be the end to someone wanting to be around him if not addressed and mitigated.
Positive Trait List Resilient, daring, ebullient, optimistic
Negative Trait List Unrealistic, foolhardy, gullible, possessive
History: Born into a small hold aligned to Western, Sioryl was the first born of a young apprentice courtesan named Niviora. Upon his mother being Searched and flown off to Western to stand as a Candidate, Sioryl was left in the care of a doting new mother. She raised Sioryl alongside her own newborn son though she was never one to hide his true parentage, not out of spite or to upset him but to never keep the truth from him. He grew up knowing his birth mother had been summoned to Western Weyr to stand before young dragons so one of them might choose her to be their lifemate and, as he grew, Sioryl made sure the entire tiny hold knew of the great honor that had been given to her. He'd often play pretend with his best friend and 'brother', casting the slightly younger boy as a loyal and strong dragon while he played the role of his mother.
As he grew Sioryl's adoration for Niviora never ceased and each passing Turn brought the hope that she'd return astride a dragon to see him, maybe even to bring him to Western to join her. His surrogate mother never discouraged his hopes but the older he got, the more sympathetic her gaze and tone grew. Sioryl never gave up, though, completely convinced Niviora would be back for him some day. He didn't blame her for leaving him behind - he'd certainly have held her back at his age, she would need to focus every waking moment on training and learning - and rather than having doubt creep in, his daydreams of his mother's success only grew more and more vivid and wild.
Finally Sioryl became of an age where he started to pick up a trade. He loved working with his hands and quickly became engrossed with the local cobbler's skills, how he could make such sturdy shoes out of nothing but leather and a bit of strong string. He began to learn the basic craft from the man and was considering heading to the Tannercraft Hall to become a full Apprentice when Thread returned. Everything seemed to come to a screeching halt, its arrival drawing more Searchriders to the hold to spirit away young men and women alike to the large Weyrs. Sioryl hoped he'd see his mother winging her way down to the ground, but each time it wasn't her he began to worry. If she had found a dragon by now surely she'd have to fly and fight, right? Every time the hold sheltered from Threadfall Sioryl gazed up at the skies, wondering if Niviora was above them defending her old home.
Even though his worries grew so did the heroic picture he was painting of his mother. With each Turn Sioryl continued to idolize her despite not knowing her fate, though he didn't allow himself to even consider she might have died years ago. His mother was his hero and had been since he could remember, she couldn't die.
It was a few days after he'd turned 14 that one of the Searchriders that frequented the weyr approached him. Sioryl had seen the rider and their dragon before but never up close and he was in complete and utter awe of the impressive creature as the rider spoke to him. He needed absolutely zero convincing to return to Western with the rider and their dragon and had given his surrogate mother and brother a fond farewell with the promise that he'd return to visit when he could, and would certainly write to them otherwise.
He was following in his mother's footsteps! His dreams of seeing her again were going to come true! He was going to stand and maybe find a dragon of his own, just like her! Sioryl didn't entertain the thought that Niviora might not be there to welcome him, too delighted that all his childhood games were coming true.
Other: Son to Niviora (Prism Shine), great nephew to Bisera (Prism Shine)
