NPC & Staff Wing

This thread is going to be used for characters who are currently assigned to NPC Wings! Ultimately, this thread will also be used by Uta & Cheri to roll NPC Characters to see how they fare, as well as some of our Staff Rolls!

Hour 1: Round 1 & 2 // Low-Altitude Wing
Hour 2: Round 3 & 4 // High-Altitude Wing
Hour 3: Round 5 & 6 // Mid-Altitude Wing
Hour 4: Round 7 & 8 // Low-Altitude Wing

Threadfall Starts! Hour 1, Round 1 Beings!

High Altitude Wing: Burning Aces
Mid Altitude Wing: Trespassers
Low Altitude Wing: Harbingers

Hour: 1400

Wave Change: First Wave is up! Second Wave is at the Weyr! Whiteriders in First Wave that aren't in Harbingers will be with the Queen's Wing!

Location: Currently beginning just northeast of Nabol Hold, well south of Keogh Hold. There are smaller cotholds and various farmland and forest that need protecting. While the population is sparser than some of the proper Holds, there are also known mercenary groups and Holdless encampents that live near and around the Nabol border.

Conditions: Though visibility is normal and winds are relatively calm, the higher up, the stronger the winds and the more intense the gusts. High and mid-altitudes should be on guard! As the land transitions to the High Reaches mountains and the mining territory of Nabol, expect stronger winds as elevation changes.

Rolling for M'lem & bronze Tarienth :: NPC Wingleader :: Uta (with her permission)

Quote:
24-42. If a Wingleader, you were so focused on chewing out one of your wingriders who pulled a stupid move, that you actually miss catching a large clump of Thread that's falling right past you. A nearby wingmate winds up taking the hit -- as they were busy flaming a different clump of Thread and hadn't time to notice. Quote a Single Wingmate and have them lose -5 HP!

Uta
This should have been in the Harbinger thread, but the mistake has been communicated. Bayeth is taking the -5 HP from this roll.

scream A powerful gust of wind blows through and hits one of the wings, blowing even the largest of bronzes and golds out of formation and into neighboring Threadfall!

Roll a D5 to see which wing took the loss and what happens!
1. Queen's Wing
2. Low Altitude Wing
3. Mid Altitude Wing
4. High Altitude Wing
5. Weyrling Wing

Quote 3 Individuals in the Wing! -7 HP These individuals are also now suffering from the Painful Effect. This will negate your next 2 rolls XP, double damage if the roll includes set damage (or has you roll for damage)!

Threadfall Continues! Hour 2, Round 1 Beings!

High Altitude Wing: Harbingers
Mid Altitude Wing: Burning Aces
Low Altitude Wing: Trespassers

Hour: 1500

Wave Change: First Wave is up! Second Wave is at the Weyr! Whiteriders in First Wave that aren't in Trespasser's will be with the Queen's Wing!

Location: They are now flying over Nabol Hold proper. The winds have picked up exceedingly, and it seems the front they were hoping to avoid was moving quicker than expected.

Conditions: Winds have picked up extensively, and some particularly strong gusts will continue to threaten the wings. There's heavier cloud coverage and the sun is beginning to set. When it does peek through the clouds, it is on the horizon and can be half-blinding for rider and dragon alike. The thickest clouds make Thread hard to see.

---

D'mon couldn't believe the damage reports Thistreth was receiving. That said, the bronzerider understood that even easy Thread conditions could prove devastating--and the calm winds they had hoped for were quickly deteriorating the closer they got to Nabol. They were already down on rider pair permanently, and at least two others had needed saving from the Queens.

This was the first hour... What would the rest bring? He dared not think about it. Injuries could be assessed later, and they could try to find out what to do to avoid such losses in the future. Lireloth, Rixth, Nioweth... That his own son was among the injured chafed his pride, but also stoked his fears. That a bronze had also fallen was foreboding of what the rest of Fall would bring. And the death of Lireloth....

Well.

All he could do was hope to keep them focused. They couldn't focus on losses and could only focus on staying alive, getting through this, and sweeping up the mess. Wings! It is time to change altitudes. Keep focused, and though we ache for the loss of our kin, though our hearts are sore with grief and worry, though our bodies ache from exertion and injury... Do not focus on what we can't do, or fail to do--focus instead on what we WILL do!

We will bring down the Enemy. We will get through this Fall. We will be together, once more in just a few hours time. Pern is counting on you. Keep on fighting!

Every in-play Wingleader gets One Damage Save -- this can be from Thread or Tongue Bites!

Every in-play Wingsecond gets One Status Save

Every in-play character gets +5 HP

[Since it's clear this Threadfall has been kind of harsh. LOL You can have this apply PAST your max... so you can get something like 24/19, etc.]

13-16. A well timed bugle of warning! The wingriders are helping one another out, and keeping an eye on their wingmates. Up here, color and rank doesn't seem to matter as much... That's a good thing!

Roll a 1-3 to see which wing is looking out for one another!

Threadfall Continues! Hour 3, Round 1 Beings!

High Altitude Wing: Trespassers
Mid Altitude Wing: Harbingers
Low Altitude Wing: Burning Aces

Hour: 1600

Wave Change: Second wave is ready to fight! First Wave is now back at the Weyr. Whiteriders in Second Wave that aren't in Burning Aces will be with the Queen's Wing!

Location: Just south west of Nabol, sweeping up over some of the minor Nabol Holds and cotholds nestled in the High Reaches foothills. By the hours end, they will be well into northeast Tillek territory, fighting over rolling hills of farmland.

Conditions: Twilight has fallen over the land. The sun has sunk beneath the horizon, and is quickly taking the last rays of light with it. Visibility is quickly disappearing and will continue to deteriorate. Though it's not quite as bad the beginning of this hour, by the hours end, it will be incredibly hard to see the silver tangles. Worse, the winds are high, at all levels. The Weyr is preparing for high turnover and damage.

---

Conditions were just getting worse as night approached. Though there was still some visibility in the twilight, D'mon knew it wouldn't last. Between the clouds and the winds, he was expecting heavy losses, indeed. All he could hope was that his riders weren't completely taken out. They would do their duty... But the price would be heavy, indeed.

How many riders would they lose today? How many would need to be caught by the Queen's? His own twin had fallen from the sky--and while he was grateful no more dragons had keened in pain since Lireloth, he feared what might yet come. It was too soon to say, really. Far too soon. The Weyr would have much to mourn upon their return.

But that was neither here nor there. He needed to keep his head in the game--emotion would have to wait.

Thistreth reached out, once more, to all the dragons--those newly arrived, and those carrying on. You're halfway through, riders of High Reaches. The sun has now set, and the last of the light will fade fast. Be careful of what you're flaming, and keep your wits about you! When your riders visualize the airspace, make sure it is clear, lest you get lost Between! Night coordinates were always a bit trickier than those in the day; but night coordinates having to be visualized in quick succession? Practically a guaranteed disaster.

All characters status effects are removed! Everyone gets to start out fresh due to changeover!

Browns, bronzes, and golds get +5 HP Since Second wave should be coming in fresh, they should be good! But those remaining will get a little extra boost.

IF YOU WANT TO BE PARTICULARLY CHANCY... All players may, at any given time during the hour, roll a single Extra D20 Conditions Roll for your character! This is in addition to the 5 rolls you're making already! You do not have to make this roll. If you do roll it, you must accept the prompt.

These cannot be "saved" from.

1-2. Automatic KO or Death! You either lost yourself Between due to the crazy conditions; or you wound up missing a major sheet of Thread due to the darkening skies.

3-18. +5 Extra XP Points You did great! We're not sure what you did, but you did great. Fill in post being successful or doing something like not-dying, and you can give yourself 5 extra XP points! You may put them all in one stat (at the game's end) or break them apart.

19-20. Automatic KO or Death to a Wingmate!! You done effed it up. You flamed a wingmate just due to the rough wind conditions; or perhaps you hopped Between right into their airspace, causing them to veer into a patch of Thread. Whatever happens, you know it's your fault and you get to live with the consequence. [If you do not find a PC to take the fall, we will assume an NPC gets the axe instead. ;3]

Threadfall Continues! Hour 4, Round 1 Beings!

High Altitude Wing: Burning Aces
Mid Altitude Wing: Trespassers
Low Altitude Wing: Harbingers

Hour: 1700

Wave Change: Second wave is ready to fight! First Wave is now back at the Weyr. Whiteriders in Second Wave that aren't in Burning Aces will be with the Queen's Wing!

Location: Well over the northeast of Tillek territory, they will be fighting over cotholds, Minor Holds, and over Sattle Hold.

Conditions: Night has fallen. Visibility is low, and the dragons make an eerie sight within the night. Spotting Thread is extremely difficult in the dark, and the winds have been, and will continue to be, relentless.

---

D'mon was exhausted--mentally, emotionally, physically. Thistreth felt the same, for all that the bronze was fighting valiantly. He was hurting--bad--but they could not, would not, throw in the towel so easily. There were still lives to save, Thread to burn, and D'mon would do his best to ensure his people--his wingmates--made it out alive and in one piece.

This was a very severe Threadfall, and the numbers his Wingleaders were reporting were grim.

But they could mourn and grieve later.

For now.... all they could do was fight.

Thistreth reached out once more, sending what strength he could to those, not just in his Wing, but to the Weyr. The battle will soon be over and victory is in sight--but our darkest and longest hour yet is at hand. Tap into your strength and know that you have done well! You have saved countless lives, and while we have sacrificed flesh, ichor, blood, and bone--we will not let this night end in defeat!

Lireloth will not have died in vain. All those who have fallen, all those who the Queen's have caught and delivered will not have been injured for nothing. You are all dragonriders of Pern, and you are all heroes. Keep fighting, and know that your weary wings will be able to rest soon. Pern is still counting on us!

All dragons gain +12 HP!

ALL THREADFALL DAMAGE THIS LAST HOUR will be increased by 5. i.e. Instead of -1 it will be -6HP. Instead of -5 it'll be -10. Its so dark, and the winds are still throwing Thread around. This is a very dangerous time! i.e. catching a dragon, or biting your tongue, etc. That stuff will remain normal. If it's Thread damage though? You took more because there probably IS more!

1-4. Automatic KO or Death! You either lost yourself Between due to the crazy conditions; or you wound up missing a major sheet of Thread due to the darkening skies.

5-16. +5 Extra XP Points You did great! We're not sure what you did, but you did great. Fill in post being successful or doing something like not-dying, and you can give yourself 5 extra XP points! You may put them all in one stat (at the game's end) or break them apart.

17-20. Automatic KO or Death to a Wingmate!! You done effed it up. You flamed a wingmate just due to the rough wind conditions; or perhaps you hopped Between right into their airspace, causing them to veer into a patch of Thread. Threadfall Ends!

High Altitude Wing: Burning Aces
Mid Altitude Wing: Trespassers
Low Altitude Wing: Harbingers

Hour: 1800

Wave Change: All waves return to High Reaches Weyr!

Location: Somewhere over Sattle Hold, then onto High Reaches Weyr

Conditions: Windy and gusty over Sattle Holds, with partly cloudy skies. High Reaches Weyr is more calm, with clear skies.

---

It was finally over.

The blasted wind continued to blow, and even Thistreth struggled to keep himself still. The Weyrleader had Scorpious Wing make one final sweep to ensure that Thread had truly ended, before wearily raising his arm. Send them home, Thistreth. For indeed, there was no rest--not for him. Though Thistreth would need tending, he would need to check in on those in Sattle Hold, and inform ground crews where Thread had fallen through.

The Wingseconds and Wingleaders of Constellation Flight and a few of their trusted riders-- or at least those who were bodily able-- would be tapped this night to finish sweeping up with the ground crews. It was hard to ask it of them after so long out in wretched conditions--but duty demanded it be done.

The rest, of course, would at least be free to return and mourn. Thread has finished its Fall... You are all free to return to the Weyr. See to your injuries, clean up, mourn, eat, and sleep... Wingleaders, check on your riders. We'll expect a full report on our desk come morning. With the extent of the injured, D'mon was sure they would all need time.

Neither rider nor dragon had any speech within them... Not right now. Though they had been victorious, the cost had been great indeed. Had he lead them into an unwinnable battle? Had he made the wrong calls? How much of the damage could have been avoided and how much was just bad luck? Though he was grateful no queens had fallen, too many others had. The injuries were almost innumerable, and there were too many who had lost their life this night.

The fire would burn bright tomorrow... but he still had to think about Thread today.

Giving the signal, D'mon ordered the remaining wings back to the Weyr.

((This PC Thread game is officially wrapped!! Thanks for playing! Be sure to save your stats for when we run another one-- you may now apply your XP points!!))
