Name: A’gyn
Age: 24
Nameday: 3551.11.02
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Pansexual
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: Candidate
Physical Description: A downright jovial man at heart, A’gyn is a softer man of mind and body. He’s of average size and build -- a bit dad-bod shaped without the kids (that he’s aware of). His hair is long and soft, well-maintained and cared for, and falls between a soft brown and muddy blonde. The sun certainly does its part to help pick up the blonder highlights. Soft, hazel blue eyes are always kind, gentle for all those he comes across -- for indeed, it takes a lot to get truly on his bad side.
There’s a decent-sized score across his face, and draping down his chest; as well as scars across his arm and shoulders from firelizard claws.
Personality: Never one to shy away from any kind of crowd, A’gyn prides himself by trying to know something about the people around him. A friendly guy who likes to scratch the back of everyone around him; taking an extra cookie for the sweet auntie who tells him how handsome he is, or the bluerider in his wing whose dragon loves a particular scent. While, yes, A’gyn wouldn’t outright deny that it’s to potentially cash in on a favor should he need it, it’s not like he lords the kindness over people’s heads. There’s a deep root of kindness, and he likes to spread a bit of happiness -- even if it’s in the hopes that his kindness might be repaid. There’ll always be a friend in A’gyn. Yet even if it’s not, or it somehow comes back to A’gyn that someone’s been using his generosity for only their own gain, he lets it roll off his back -- far too often, in Kurath’s opinion. There’s only so much you can give the shirt off your back before you’ll freeze between, after all.

With a practical view to life, A’gyn likes to tackle things with a head-on mindset. He’s at his element when he’s prepared for something. Turns of diligent training and now experience have made him more adept at threadfall -- not perfect, who’s perfect in life, after all. But he sees the power shift in High Reaches, that those with gleaming hides on their dragons get a bit more special treatment. While he’s not particularly vocal of his distaste for traditional views, he does try to do his best to level the playing field in his tiny scope of reach -- even as little as making sure a young chromatic rider is okay, or does someone really have to say they’re “just a white/green/blue/brown-rider?”. He does his best to keep his voice soft, but sometimes it gets away from him -- his mother used to joke about his mouth always getting the rest of him in trouble, after all. When he’s out of his element, mainly in verbal altercations, he’s quick on his feet and quicker in thought. However, it doesn’t always give the best results.

A’gyn considers himself a bit of a joker, and from a young age has always rolled with whatever life has thrown at him. Like water off a sea wherry’s back, he usually cracks back with a(n admittably bad) joke. Something corny especially to lighten the mood. It's most prevalent when the bronzerider is stressed and anxious -- going straight for a bad joke to lighten the mood, even if its not what everyone might want to hear in a stressful situation. Things beyond any iota of his control tend to get to him a bit worked up -- his siblings standing on the hatching sands, when Kurath chooses a flight with more combatant participants, even threadfall to a point. Awkward situations, in particular, stress him out -- he's got training for most things, but some aspects of Weyr life, even after a decade, still throw him for a loop. The most being flightlust. Growing up in a little cothold, he figured eventually he'd marry, take over farming duties, live a simple life. The most exotic thing he considered was getting a firelizard. But with his dragon having just as bad of a track record in love, he sometimes enjoys--mostly suffers--Kurath's chase-happy ways. Never quite a prude--and finding his previous horizons on love blown open, he's not as shy about the deed so much as the possibly awkward morning after. He'd just rather it be of his own charm.
Positive Trait List Witty, Pragmatic, Outgoing
Negative Trait List Anxious, Reactive, Forgiving

History: The eldest of three kids that grew up on a small farm, Aleigyn naturally flourished as a farmer. As soon as he was old enough to hold a tool or plant seeds, he was eagerly helping his parents out in the fields. All the while it was easy to tell Aleigyn was naturally good at farming, his true passion was on the skies. The glimpse of wing formations of High Reaches dragons running drills, or the odd search dragon that came to visit the small cothold had him dropping everything in eagerness. But it was one chilly winter that changed everything. The snow didn’t stop the searchrider from coming by, as a clutch was due. Aleigyn, newly turned 14, didn’t hesitate in the slightest to accept a bid for candidacy.

Yet his time in candidacy wouldn’t last very long, either. As he stood for his first clutch, scared and excited in the same breath, a bronze, striking in every way, had followed a fellow candidate off the sands when he had gone to the healers for a wound to be tended, and the fool of a healer who had tried to protect them from his claws. It was only after his shimmering brown brother had stepped in had the bronze stepped away, finding a high point in the sand to preen. The brown had turned to the healer, eyes full of rainbows, and impression had been made -- and Aleigyn was in awe.

The bronze, meanwhile, had turned to watch his siblings impress with the air of a watcher, a protector; determined to be a good brother to his siblings on their big day. Something Aleigyn admired, for his younger siblings were precious to him.

Should we not? Who else will look out if we do not.
It took Aleigyn a shameful moment to realize the bronze had been speaking to him, the gentle patience as he’s stared at from across the sands.
I do apologize for making you wait, Aleigyn. If we might be so inclined, your Kurath would love something to eat.

Aleigyn, or A’gyn, met the duties of a freshly-bonded weyrling head on, and between his good nature and Kurath’s refined work ethic, they met each milestone of theyr weyrlinghood head-on. Though thread was a long-thought-gone threat, and A’gyn had his skeptical moments, he saw no harm in giving drills their all. For what harm of potentially being prepared do them? Turns passed by easily; his siblings were eventually searched, A’gyn and Kurath’s lovelives dipped and soared like a firelizard on the breeze, days were filled with drills that made them feel accomplished. Life was good.

And then thread returned.

Though the pair was equally terrified as they rose for the fight, they did it with the knowledge and muscle memory of drills and preparation. Some part of A’gyn, shameful of his doubt, ended up mistaking a jump and earned himself and Kurath their first scores. Turns passing by since the start of threadfall have hammered them back into the once easier routine -- but now simply add the stress of threadfall.

DRAGON
Name: Kurath
Age: 10
Color: Bronze
Size: 38’
Physical Description: Though he's on the smaller side of average for a bronze, Kurath is quite a specimen. Strong, lean legs and a high carriage of a strong lineage, leading into wide, powerful wings. His tail is long and whip-like. A more box-like wedge with headknobs that sweep back, save for his eyes being a touch wider; ranging from almost lost hatchling quality to a strikingly regal figure.

He's gotten a few threadscore here or there, small in wake of his rather cinnamon-glitter hide. The largest sits across his left shoulder and shoots down his chest. There's also the odd claw-scarring here or there, from particularly aggressive flights he's chased in.

Personality: A genteel dragon by nature, there's a quiet poise about Kurath straight from the shell. At hatching, he practically lorded about to make certain that his siblings were alright and seen to -- and this protective nature has had deep-rooted effects a decade later. Those that might look up to him will find a protective wing, a sturdy shoulder, and a caring mind. He cares little about the colorist order of things; for in his mind a blue or a green or a white could easily outfly him and spin circles, while he's able to last longer and take more hits in threadfall. He would much rather take the practical way out, mainly through words. They have them, best for disagreements to be talked out, certainly. However, just as he displayed when he was but a hatchling, Kurath has claws, has teeth -- and isn't afraid to use them should the time come, even if they're only used in the air. There is just a high preference of using his work ethic and mind to seek out a solution.

There's charm at his edges, a sweetness that coats this kind boy. While he's a proud dragon of High Reaches, and a lineage to trace back, it isn't hard to see the cracks in Kurath's self-image. There's doubt of what he deserves, for he craves many things; a love to call his own, children to dote on -- and they don't have to be from one in the same. But he's proven quite abysmal at both, and while he is still young, his hearts ache more with the return of thread. However, the feeling wrestles with the wonder if he deserves such delights of the world -- and the few times he's been lucky to catch a green in her flight is left with stilted words and a heartbroken boy prone to finding a ledge to curl up on for a few days to nurse that wound.

By far, however, Kurath is not an antisocial or even shy dragon. Contrary, he quite likes to strike up a conversation and chat about whatever comes to mind. Just because his woes of his love life and desire for hatchlings may falter, doesn't stop him from being a bit of a social butterfly.

Overall this reads pretty well, but there is one thing that would absolutely not be permitted. It is firmly against the rules of a Weyr for a healer to intervene like that. If the healer survived, they certainly would not be permitted to return to the Weyr because they could have frightened the baby between. There is a reason that healers must wait for Candidates to come to them (or be brought to them) and stand on the sidelines.

Intervening like that not only put a precious baby bronze at risk (which High Reaches would have been spitting mad about) but also potentially put Candidates at risk. Is this detail something you're married to? It's just highly frowned upon for an onlooker to interfere during a Hatching, especially someone like a healer whose responsibility is to tend to the wounded post-Hatching or during the Hatching but not to protect Candidates from baby dragons.
