TRADITIONS
- The title of Moon Vessel (aka Alpha) is considered mostly hereditary - This title is generally passed to the firstborn of the current Vessel - Should the firstborn perish, the title is passed to the foal next in line - In rare instances where the Vessel has no children, the title is passed on to an apprentice - Apprentices are selected as they reach elder foalhood/young adulthood - Apprentices continue to be trained even if there is an heir - Apprentices have the option to become advisor to the new Moon Vessel or step down to pursue another calling - All foals are given a lantern to mark their birth - These lanterns are plain at first, becoming decorated as the foal ages - Special lanterns are lit for each ceremony and festival, for special moons and at night - The herd honors three distinct times of night: wolf-light, midnight, and dove-light - Black lanterns lit with blue fire are used to honor the dead - The closest loved one of the deceased leads the procession - If there are no loved ones living, the Moon Vessel does the honor - There are three major festivals celebrated by the herd: autumn, winter solstice, summer solstice - Summer solstice is more of a handing of the torch between the Sun and Moon - While there is a preference towards lifemating, the herd accepts and acknowledges all forms of love

RANKS
Moon Vessel- the one blessed as leader and entrusted with the herd
Moon Shadow- the one seen for advice. Typically an apprentice that was trained in case there should be no heir
Moon Whisperer- the one charged with keeping the lore and traditions of the herd alive
Ambassadors- those who travel between the Kawaakari and Komorebi herds, exchanging news and updates as well as goods and trinkets. There are a total of 4 ambassadors for the Kawaakari herd at any given time
Watcher- an elder who has studied astronomy and become a master of it. In charge of guiding the herd at night, as well as teaching any who show interest
Stargazers- those who devote their life to studying the heavens
Halo Knights- those that are the most prominent defenders of the herd. They are highly skilled and trusted
Gibbous Knights- those that have increased their skill level and have proven themselves in battle. It is the stepping stone from Crescent to Halo
Crescent Knights- those that defend the herd and its lands. All those who wish to protect the herd begin at this rank
Wolf Knights- those that oversee the training and development of the other knights. These are the highest ranking warriors in the herd, though the position is hard earned. There are only ever three at a time, with the position being held until either death or abdication. They confer on all matters and present their decisions to the Moon Vessel for approval. No one acts independently Positions available: 2
Eclipse Council- those that discuss the state and affairs of the herd. While the ultimate decisions lie with the Moon Vessel, the council provides a forum for grievances to be aired or suggestions to be made. There are 8 members of the council (to symbolize the 8 phases of the moon), in addition to the chief advisor and Moon Vessel. Council members are chosen in 2 ways: 1) they are personally selected by the Moon Vessel then vetted by the sitting members, or 2) when a position becomes available, an open meeting is held to ask the herd for candidates. Should the 2nd option come into play, the herd members submit names for consideration at the meeting. If only 1 name is given then they are accepted. If more names are stated, the council members retire to a private area to debate and vote, returning only when a decision is made. Soquili and Familiar alike can be council members, with the typical makeup of a council being evenly split
Entertainers- those that make up a majority of the herd. There are various professions to choose from including, but not limited to: storyteller, dancer, puppetry, and singer. The herd is most touted for its storytellers and astronomers
Craftsmen- those that create various items used by the herd in their daily lives. This sect includes things such as candle making, basket weaving, clay pot design, and sewing
Moon Rise- those of a particular group of families that are tasked with creating the lanterns for newly born herd members. Those in these families are the only ones within the herd that do not possess a lantern as they believe parts of themselves reside in their creations. There is one exception to this, however. Should a member of the families feel drawn to a different profession within the herd or outside it, then a lantern will be created and decorated appropriately for them. Members can also be considered familiars to others in the herd if they so wish without issue
Moon Set- those of a particular group of families that are tasked with altering the lanterns of the herd into appropriate headstones. Just as their counterparts mark the welcoming of a newborn with the creation of the lantern, so too do those of these families show their respect and craft by bidding farewell to the deceased through transformation. They take great care in their endeavors so that the departed will find their way into the afterlife
Scouts
Caretakers
Hunters
Healers
Familiars
NOTE: Herd members are allowed to have more than one rank, with the exception of those that state otherwise. So, an entertainer can also be a craftsman, a healer can be a scout, a council member can be a knight, etc. It is entirely up to you. Just please be sure to note it in your joining post.
