[Overview]
tab The Twilit Carnival is perpetually suspended at the exact moment where Night and Day meet, leaving the sky painted with an aurora that is otherwordly in origin, described accurately as Twilight. A dilapidated carnival, strewn with damage and gore, but being cleaned by neutral forces, is the entirety of this location, an island that stretched for several miles in radius and ringed with a black ocean lit with red and green stars within its depths, a universe kept within its abyss. Every ride works, with a featureless carny manning its post to run and moderate every ride and attraction. There is no end to the themes and varieties of attractions, ranging from food to roller coasters to a whole host of impossible delights and horrors that defy knowledge, with some clearly alien in origin that the Carny's do their best to keep you from.
tab Fiercely protected by a Ring Leader God that bears a tall eared rabbit mask and several decks of cards is the neutrality of this place. Death cannot happen, and any who dare try to murder are met with a grizzly, unspeakable fate, never to be heard from again. All are warned by the Earls to see this place as neutral, but despite this the forces of the Winter Guard continue to attack from the ocean and find themselves becoming new decorations for the whimsical place. All are welcome, the rules state, as long as Death is not inflicted. You may fight, you man train, you may experience and enjoy and learn. If you wish to go to the Houses of either side, however, your Neutrality is revoked until you return to the Twilit Carnival, with the exit for each being just a Dream Wish away...

With a jolt, Meissa found herself in a new world. Again. For the second time in as many days. Was this common now? Was she allowed to be annoyed that this kept happening? And where the heck was Nok?!

She swallowed those emotions, allowed herself a quiet sigh, and observed her surroundings. She had never been to a proper carnival, but even so, she could tell there was something off about this one. Even discounting the fact that she'd just been riding through a technicolor forest the moment prior. This place seemed a bit... hostile, perhaps, or maybe unstable.

She flipped up the hood of her cloak and felt a sheet cover her. It would seem she had been transmogrified into some sort of bedsheet ghost. A new bit of strangeness with her body, again for the second time in as many days. She would've been more upset if it hadn't made her a black-blue specter, which was really the best color she could think of for such things. She decided to mingle with the crowds to get a better feel for the place before doing anything rash and wound up floating near some of the rides.

                                                        tab
Cold breath filled Aric's lungs, shocking him to life in an upright position. The initial shock of finding himself in an unknown location and with no memory did well to grab hold of his panic. Through gritted teeth, Aric forced command over his fear through breathing excesses as he pushed to his feet. The weight of his stomps left a thick imprint from which he stood, detailing as much of his immediate surroundings as he could. "How remarkably droll." The giant remarked idly, taking particular note of the faceless attendants in particular. Just how it was that one survived without the better half of a face was a mysterious, but ultimately, only a mild curiosity to man. Any hints of interrogation would, he suspected, result in nothing but a mindless continuation of their regularly assigned duties.

From out of the corners of his eyes, the figure of a younger woman could be made out, although he made no move torwards her. Taking the entire situation into account, Aric preferred relying on himself whenever possible. Although, the possibility that this stranger could have been related to his capture did weigh heavy at the forefront of his mind. For now, the stragari did what he could to follow the guideline of "innocent until proven guilty" while he searched the area for a way out. The pure essence of oblivious, as he left behind a trail of wet skin in doing so.

Pupils opened and then dilated to absorb the bright colors that were painted across the twilight sky. If Ffionn had held any reservations about waking up in the mud of a strange place, then he didn't do much to show it. Fingers traced happily in the muck, making shapes until the fox tilted his ears back in response to the next idle curiosity that managed to catch his attention. In this way, he worked himself around until he caught sight of the others who had found themselves in the same situation as he had. One, in particular, a woman dressed in elegant white cloth. Or at least she had been before the dark over cloak masked her in hues of dark blue and black. Stumbling along with hints of a smile, the fox moved with a rolling sort of walk that stopped just shy of the newly born specter. Bright red orbs soaked in every detailed inch they could for a time that was much longer than should have been appropriate. "Wisdom knows enduring is pain. She hurts for another she couldn't save." He spoke, at last, breaking the silence. "Are you a gran?" An innocent inflection quizzled, hoping in turn to find a replacement for the one that he had lost.

As Meissa the Bedsheet Ghost floated through the crowds, trying to look as inconspicuous as possible despite being a specter surrounded by meat-and-bone monsters. Others were popping in now, too, one of which seemed to have forgotten their flesh; that wasn't an image she'd get out of her head anytime soon. There was also a fox boy who looked to be about her age and slightly taller, who had approached her and started speaking strangely.

Well, "strangely" was putting it lightly. His words were unnerving. They made her wonder if he was peering past her bedsheet and straight down into her mind. Was this world an illusion? She'd suspected it since waking up, but in this oddly shifting place it seemed much more likely. Red eyes, in particular, were associated with powerful illusions in the world she knew.

"You could say I was a grandmother once," she commented, adjusting her float height so they were even. She pointedly kept a few inches' gap between them, however. "Not that I had any biological grandchildren, and not that I am one anymore. You have very pretty eyes, unlike any I've seen for a very long time. Are you searching for your grandmother?"

Iiliya slowly faded in to existence, as if she had never been there to begin with. Her solid white but golden tinted eyes slowly opened to look at the mass of other otherworldly beings around her. Her manasight flared as her forked tongue hit the air, the amount of mana signatures almost immediately giving her a headache. Wincing, the snake-sept-turned-specter looked down at herself, finding only clawed gloves where her bare hands had been only seconds earlier. Where the hell was she? Once again, her tongue licked the air as she looked around, tasting and tasting and tasting... Then stopping.

        Aric is here.

Her heart slammed to a stop in a moment, her mouth lingering on the taste of his molten mana. She couldn't let him find her, not now, not so soon. Quickly moving in the direct opposite of the strigari, she pushed her way through the crowd. Panic gripped her for a moment in till she felt that she was successfully far enough from the male. He never seemed to have any heightened senses, so she felt comfortable enough with just distance between them. For whatever reason she was here in this weird landscape, she would have to be careful to not run in to Aric.

Ffionn could feel his ears turn back, once again displaying his confusion with the unfixed nature of things. It seemed that no matter what strange place he woke up in, nothing was much like his home in any regard. "You aren't yourself? Or yourself moved, changed, are you water? A Ffionn knows about water!" Mirthful chirps sang in the air while the fox child made his move to cross the distance between them one step at a time. A bond through taming had been at least one lesson he had retained from his time exploring.

Then, a sadness, fear, anxiety. Quickly Ffionn took a double-take of his surroundings. A Gran wasn't anywhere to be found, just how long had it been since he lost her? In moments the world around the fox all felt suddenly much smaller. "Gran? Yes, I think have lost a Gran. Does a water know where to find more? I don't know where I am..." Cupping his hands together, the fox child settled into a straight-backed stance, unsure of just what he should do next.

Meissa had struck a nerve, it seemed. This child seemed lost, almost like his mind were fragmented, or perhaps, well, water. In that sense, she supposed he might know quite a bit about water, as he suggested. She watched as his mood shifted from jovial to reserved in but a few moments and sensed that she was looking at another rendition of a familiar scene. She had dealt with orphans in her previous life, many of whom would fold in on themselves in much the same way Ffionn had.

"This water is Meissa," she replied, trying to mimic the boy's speech patterns in an attempt to comfort him. "There are many grans, but only some might be right for you. If you'd like, I will keep you company for a while. I'll even chase away the scary goblins."

She waved her arms in what she hoped was a spooky way. Looking around, she noticed plenty of other patrons around, but none that looked much like Ffionn. That would've been too easy.

                                                        tab
Boots kicked up dust as Aric stormed away from the carnival for what must have been the third time now. No matter how hard he tried or in what direction, the result was always the same. Time and again, he would only end right back where he had started. Sometimes his previous path wouldn't even lead him to the spot he had begun, as if whatever insane merry land he had ended up in refused to even play by the rules that it had set. Aric made a mental note to meet personally with the twisted fairground owner once whatever "this" was over. I suppose the only way out is to play whatever game they have designed for us then. I just wish that-

Inplace of amber-colored gems were nebula starred rubies that reacted instinctively to his surroundings. Plucking out the beating life force of all in attendance, as sharply as a hawk would a mouse. This was not the vision of someone who was made a hunter but was born one. A command that spoke of someone that he had lost, or at least masquerading as one. Iiliya? No, that can't be. It must be another trick of this place surely. Uncertain words did their best to convince the stragari and ultimately failed to do so.

The moment felt shocking, to wish for something so strongly, and then have it happen? What did he even do from here? It all felt like a test meant to derive what kind of man he was. Dare he hope if it were anything more than a lie? A cough covered the silence that he didn't know how to fill. Following almost unconsciously after the whispy like spirit, Aric gave his chase. "Wait!" He called while trying with difficulty to squeeze his form past others in the crowd. "Spectre, I must talk with you!"

[____________The Carnival of Screams...||
tab The rattling of chains was the only notice the carnival would receive before its master would arrive. From the skies would fall strange lights with colors that had no names, each dancing and twisting, elongating to ribbons that touched the animal centers of one's minds to elicit absolute fear. Yet it was one of prey and hunter, of the boogyman in the shadows that one knew was there, but could never prove. It did not paralyze, only bring about the sense of dread that a child fears when staring into the dark and unknown. The ribbons coalesced into a being that twisted and turned in a macabre dance upon the top of the largest of ferris wheels, twin circles bobbing where one should be that rotated to reveal a pair of face masks, both devoid of what should have lain behind them. A long laugh, a cackle with little sanity and overwhelming menace, the being's dual voices spoke as one with a voice both high and deep. "Welcome, Wakeners,"it exclaimed jubilantly. "Welcome to the Twilit Carnival, the neutral territory between warring battlegrounds and the site of a conflict more ancient than any before it!"
tab Stopping in place it reached down between its legs and withdrew from thin air a large trumpet, one with a massive flag attached that bore a serpent's eye on a burned in black on a field of red circled in a black designed as a blood smear. Blowing it once unleashed a horrendous noise that caused the metal in the carnival to hum with its passing as two enormous pillars of light speared down from the heavens, one white as snow and the other black as night on opposite ends of the isle.
tab Lowering the instrument it cackled, speaking once again in its dulcet tones. "I am Jangles, the Midnight Sorcerer, and it is I who will explain to you what transpires here! I am one of three Earls of Nightmare, who year after year bring the frights of All Hallow's Eve to the world! This year is no different, yet we are stopped by the mighty forces of Swanta Claws, the warlord of the Winter Forces! He seeks to steal our realms, and in so doing destroy the balance! You must help us stop his advance, you must help us defeat the aggressor before he spills the madness of this war into your world!" At the end he threw his hands high, finishing a rather bombastic display with his body as he spoke, and shrieked the last word. As he did the earth erupted near the Ferris Wheel as a cat twice the size of the average man rose from the cracked earth and stretched towards the sky, freezing at last as black letters scrawled across it's body. "The Cat's flesh shall tell you the rules of this battle! Learn it well, and help us defeat Swanta and his forces!"

[ A ] maniacal laugh, the melodramatic charade of a tale, it was almost comical how silly this scenario was in. But that didn't make it any less real, as was obvious from the whisperings of the parasites within his mind and body. They tasted the air as he strode from a hall of mirrors designed around the theme of something called Holly Wood, though who knew what madness it was wrenched from with the strangely painted bodies of men and women within. Especially that strange, orange fellow with the fake hair. Shaking his head, Hesrik turned his empty gaze upon the so-called Twilit Carnival and recognized it for what it was: a place somewhere between whimsical and nightmare, something that he'd read about before, as the realm between the seasons, one of the so-called Fractal Worlds. He's saught this place once, but not as he was now. Casting his gaze down, holding his hands before his gaze he watched the thin strands of his parasites wriggle between the bones of his wrists just beneath where they met the gloves. They, too, whispered of the emptiness of his anatomy, and more, the existence of what hadn't been for nigh on multiple eternities: bones.
tab He was a lich.
tab The thought almost broke him with mirth, were it not for the memory of the being's words. Empty sockets cast their gaze up towards the strange being upon the ferris wheel with confusion before he lowered them and instead scanned about the courtyard, trying to catch sight of all who had answered the Earl's call. While he had not the whole of it, legends spoke of this place and what it meant to be called here, and if even half of that lore were correct it meant they faced real danger here, of a sort. There were several about, though his attention was caught by the ferris creature again as it finished its speech, preventing him, for the moment, from gathering more intel.

Kokuei

As a dark mist rises from his mind, Kokuei awoke with a start. As he woke, he saw the oversized spectral figure with 2 masks and heard the speech. Kokuei realized he was once again thrust into something bizarre and chaotic. Well, I suppose all I can do is make the best of this.

He looks down and sees he is still wearing his normal clothes with his tan long coat overtop. But he notices that he is also glowing with the faintest hint of green, and has a sheer white cloak over him that is just out of his reach any time he tries to remove it or feel it. But somehow, I get the feeling this will be nothing but trouble.
