tab The vast, uninhabited swaths of land that make up most of the Radiant Wastes, constrained to the south by the Kyde Mountains and to the west and north by the Infernal Wastes. Various nomadic tribes wander the wastes, but the probability of finding anyone else is stunningly low thanks to the everpresent mana-infused radioactive sandstorm. Getting lost out here is almost always a death sentence, as even if one can deal with the elements, the chances of being rescued are practically zero.

tab • Nihal River - A long river fed by runoff from the Kyde Mountains. It runs northward from the mountains in the southwest to the Infernal Wastes, making it a good way of tracking one's position. Unfortunately, the river's exact position shifts depending on the intensity of the sandstorm, and the water isn't safe to drink after running through the irradiated countryside, so it's not exactly the salvation many people need by the time they get this far into the country.

tab • Megascorpions - Large scorpions that hide themselves in the sands and wait for prey to come to them. Their armor is incredibly thick and they can range in size from as small as a housecat to as large as a house. Their bodies are covered in barbs that make attacking them physically difficult. These barbs also serve to disturb air currents, protecting them from wind-based attacks as well. They can have anywhere from one to three tails, each bearing a potent venom.
tab • Cactus Cat - A catlike creature covered in fine, hairlike quills. To the untrained eye, it appears to be an ordinary bobcat. Cactus Cats have a terrifying screech that sounds similar to a person’s death cries, which they use to instill fear in their prey. The main way they hunt is by leaping onto their prey so their quills can dig in, then tearing it apart with their teeth and claws until it stops moving. They are immune to many natural toxins, and are in fact immune to the venom used by the megascorpions. Scorpion tails are said to be one of their favorite snacks. Cactus Cats have an intoxicating alcoholic scent perceptible only at short range.
tab • Brass Serpent - A flying serpent that appears in the sky whenever there is a break in the sandstorm. It has a copper-colored body, a gator’s head, and the limbs of a lion. Seeing one is said to be a good omen, but only if one bows and waits for it to pass; anyone who stays standing in its presence is eaten before the storm returns. It is wrapped in fierce winds, even by the standards of the Land of Radiance. Observers have often noted that it was in the company of other creatures as well, leading them on a parade through the sky; because of this, the Brass Serpent has garnered many nicknames, such as the Heavenly Guide, Lord of Monsters, and Blue King. It is the unofficial mascot of Port Nilam.
tab • Sail Lizard - A small lizard with magnificent red-brown frills around its neck. Its bite is mildly toxic and not immediately dangerous. Repeated doses can be fatal, though, and this unassuming lizard travels in groups. In a pinch, they can open their sails and fly away on the breeze, which travelers have reported as looking “weird”.
tab • Radiant Storm - This land is shrouded in a permanent sandstorm that brings heat and light to those within it. Sensory perception via sight and sound is reduced to 10 meters. Detection of creatures based on their mana signature is not possible from more than 20 meters away, as the storm has its own magical signature. 1 dose of Radiation is gained every 5 posts spent here without protection.

tab • Metal Dust - Occasionally the shifting sands will expose a pocket of metallic dust. In addition to its standard uses, this dust is particularly well-suited to repairing magical implements. If worked into an item from the start of its creation, the item gains the ability to conduct its user’s mana especially well, and can even be keyed to respond to only that person. Beware, though, as some of the more dangerous creatures in the country are also drawn to these spots.
tab • Cactus Cat Crust - Heavy flakes that can be acquired by cleaning the quills of a Cactus Cat. It’s unknown what the flakes are actually comprised of, but they are pleasantly crunchy, a bit salty, and moderately alcoholic, so upscale bars across the world will sometimes import them. Can be worked into items to grant intoxicating effects.
tab • Megavenom - A potent venom found in the stinger(s) of a Megascorpion. It causes blood to clot on contact. A single milliliter of this venom is enough to clot all of the blood in an adult human’s body, assuming it can somehow circulate well enough to come into contact with all of that blood. While not always fatal, it’s rare for there to be no lasting damage to those afflicted by this venom.
