tab An area that defies explanation. Sand falls from the sky gently like soft white snowflakes. The dunes below twist and roll like waves, flowing like water out of one's hand. The clouds overhead are white and seem to glow. Behind them, a black sun drags shadows toward itself. Massive worms attempt to devour anything living in the area before dropping below the waves. Just below the surface of the sand sea is an aurora of light in every color, visible briefly when a wave breaks.
tab Firsthand accounts from people who have sailed deep into this sea are nonexistent, but those who observe the area from the shore have spotted fantastical creatures, unexplainable light patterns, and some even claim to have seen the dead. The Azhura believe this place is connected directly to some sort of afterlife and will travel great distances to send their dead off here. Such ceremonies typically span at least 7 days, during which the body of the deceased is placed so as to allow the grains of the sea to wash over them. A rotating vigil is kept over the body every night until at last the body is sent out into the sea alone in the middle of the seventh night. There are rare cases when a corpse will start moving again during the observational period, in which case it is hauled back in and given as a gift to the family that provided it, to serve as a slave for that family until it stops moving for good. Corpses reanimated this way never have the same knowledge or personality as the deceased and it is almost unheard of for them to be able to talk, so they are treated as boons granted by the Divine Radiance.
tab There is one additional practice the Azhura perform here: the cleansing of old-world technology. This is performed exactly the same way as a burial, except using puppets, automata, and other mechanical or electromechanical objects. It is thought that bathing such items in the sea will remove any spiritual impurities they may have. More importantly, they may also animate in the same way that corpses rarely do; if sold at auction, such an item can fetch enough money for a family to retire and live off of for at least two generations depending on its size and quality. It is unknown what causes this phenomenon.

tab • Moonscar Mountain - A mountain that is faintly visible from the shore, rising from the waves. It's unknown just where it is or even how far away it might be, as it isn't visible from farther than a few paces inland and it maintains a constant size as one follows the shore.
tab • The Final Rest - A spot on the eastern shore where the majority of Azhura bodies are consigned to the waves. The entire area seems to exude sadness, even for people who don't know of its use. Occasionally, ghostlike apparitions will drift out of the sea and fade into the sand.

tab • Glass Jelly - A species of colossal jellyfish that occasionally rises from the depths of the sea to float through the sky. Anything seen through them is seen as it truly is, without any disguises, albeit with a very bizarre color palette. They are otherwise completely transparent. The bell of one of these jellies is, on average, about 22 meters across while their stinging arms are over 100 meters long. The toxin in their barbs does not kill, but rather sucks the emotion and color out of whatever is struck, often leaving their victims catatonic and completely gray. Luckily, they have seemingly no interest in preying on people. Occasionally one will ascend toward the blackened sun and disappear as soon as its last tentacle leaves the sea.
tab • Water Wyrm - A creature that greatly resembles a whale, albeit without any limbs and sporting a tremendously long tail. They don’t seem to recognize the living, but will actively try to consume the dead and any spirits, earning them the moniker of “medium killer”. They substitute sand into traditionally water-based spells, though witnessing such a thing is rare. They are persistence hunters and are more than willing to stalk their prey for days.
tab • Radiant Storm - This land is shrouded in a permanent sandstorm that brings heat and light to those within it. Sensory perception via sight and sound is reduced to 10 meters. Detection of creatures based on their mana signature is not possible from more than 20 meters away, as the storm has its own magical signature. 1 dose of Radiation is gained every 5 posts spent here without protection.

tab • Bell Cloth - A piece of the bell of a glass jelly. It isn’t very useful in its raw form, but can be smelted into a glasslike substance with the weight of fabric and relative durability of stone. After this process, it glows faintly in different colors based on the emotional makeup of an area. If dissolved in oil, it can be used as an ingredient in medicine designed to counteract the effects of corruption.
tab • Wyrm Ambergris - A hard, waxy substance found in the innards of a water wyrm. A fistful of this foul-smelling substance allows one to change the element of one of their techniques. When worked into objects, they cease to suffer in harsh weather, making this a very popular item for anyone looking to weatherproof their gear.
tab • Otherworldly Grain - Occasionally a ball of sand will wash ashore on the southern coast of the sand sea. This ball is composed of the same sand that rolls in waves, but is held together by some unknown force. Spirits are able to fill their bellies with only one of these and are typically very eager to get more. A contracted spirit will usually waive whatever cost its contractor would need to pay to keep it manifested in the physical world for anywhere from a day to a full month, depending on the strength of the spirit.
