tab The reservoir formed by the Kaifuu Dam. Concrete woven into the natural stone of the Kyde Mountains forms the barrier that holds back the water. Nature has slowly been exerting its influence over the reservoir, which now teems with life it didn't in the distant past. Local fauna come here to hydrate and hunt the fish that swim in it, but must take care to avoid the crocodiles that have claimed the shallows for themselves. Visitors, too, must be wary of the hyperaggressive gators, as attempts to cull the population have largely proven futile.
tab Being a lake formed behind a dam, the Lake of Thousands is phenomenally deep. It's often rumored that ancient treasures and powerful monsters can be found at its bottom, but no one has successfully reached the bottom due to the strange currents that start about halfway down. The lake's name is a bit of a historical joke at the expense of the arrogant inhabitants of its eastern coast: it's said that someone from Starlight City set out to measure the lake's depth with a weight and some rope, but had to tie over a thousand lengths of rope and eventually their own clothes together before the weight reached the bottom. The story is largely considered to be fake, but the name stuck nonetheless.

tab • The Pier - A very short pier on the northern shore, used primarily by anglers looking to score a big catch. There are a few boats moored near it, but they tend to go unused for great lengths of time.
tab • The Thousand Deeps - A fancy name given to the center of the lake, where one is surrounded by incredibly deep water on all sides. All turbulence dies right around the center, so the occasional boat will post up here to avoid the crocodiles that lurk closer to the shores.
tab • Western Beach - The western edge of the lake has accumulated a great deal of sand throughout the years. Thanks to how the wind swirls through the mountains, the last puffs of sandstorms will die and fall here. So, a small beach has formed between the water and the western wall of the Kaifuu Dam. Alligators like to gather here, so travelers are told to be wary and start running if they hear a spitting sound.

tab • Wild Gators - As the name suggests, these are wild alligators. They tend to stick to the water if they can help it, though they will occasionally go on land to rest after a hunt or go after terrestrial prey. Their jaws can produce tremendous downward biting force. Despite their short legs, they can run as fast as a horse in short bursts. Their long tails give them similar speed while swimming and can even allow them to jump several meters straight upward out of the water. Males have slightly wider snouts while females have longer claws that allow them to better cling to rock faces.
tab • Lilies of the Deep - A vaguely humanoid fish about the size of a small housecat. They live in the depths of the dam, where their faint white glow makes them pretty much the only things visible. They occasionally rise to the shallows to hunt--and be hunted by--gators and whatever other creatures are within striking distance of their water magic. Spells formed by these creatures always seem to be supernaturally cold while still remaining water. When they die, their chest cracks open and releases hundreds of pinprick eggs into the water.

tab • Deep Roe - The eggs of a Lily of the Deep. They are considered a delicacy and thus are highly desired by gourmands, despite the fact that to the untrained tongue they’re just bitter and slimy. They attract water-element mana through an unknown mechanism and will eventually hatch if exposed to enough.
tab • Saltweed - Another name for a local variant of sugar cane. Due to the way it takes in minerals as it grows, salt (along with other minerals) tends to accumulate near the bottom of a stalk, which is where it gets its name. When eaten raw, the sweetness is balanced out by a powerful bitterness similar to coffee. This bitterness is most potent in its leaves. A tea is sometimes brewed using the leaves and sugar from one stalk.
tab • Kaifuu Mineral Water - The water in the dam is very high in beneficial minerals and has a distinctive flavor. Just gather it away from Starlight City and be sure to boil it first. If a green film forms on the top after boiling, just scoop it off.
