tab A testament to the technology and ingenuity of a bygone era, the Kaifuu Dam was built between several mountains near the southern coast of the Land of Radiance to serve as a backup water source for the entire country. At its thickest part, the dam is over 200 meters thick, both as a precaution against breakage and to house its hydroelectric generators. When it was initially active, it supplied power and water to not only Sunagakure but also to the trade cities along the coast. Now, with those cities long since reduced to dust, the only evidence of this distribution network are the bones of the aqueducts used to ferry life-giving water throughout the country.
tab The dam is managed nowadays mostly by technologically-inclined craftspeople and the Azhura that live in the Kyde mountains that surround it. Despite its age, the overall strength of its construction and the skill of those who maintain it have kept it in remarkably good shape. Its capacity for generating power has dwindled significantly since its heyday, but at night, the lights of the dilapidated city at its feet flicker to life once more, twinkling like stars when viewed from atop the dam.
tab There are two ways to travel up and down the dam: the first and most common is to take the footpaths; the second is to ride on lifts, which are powered by the slaves of the Azhura who live in Starlight City. Needless to say, the second method is typically reserved for the denizens of Starlight City and their guests. There are other elevators, but none are in working condition following years of neglect and exposure to the rainstorms that come out of the southern ocean.

tab • Footpaths - Trails that wind their way through the mountains down to Starlight Lakeside Ruins. This is a very long way to walk, but affords some amazing views of the southern coastline and the ruins below. At night the clear skies above and the twinkling lights below are separated only by the sea on the horizon, making certain paths with good views very popular among young couples.
tab • Guts of the Dam - As the name suggests, this is the inside of the dam. Though typically not open to the public, those who are more technically-minded are granted access without much fuss. After all, if they can gain some understanding of how the dam actually works, everyone benefits. Not many places are off-limits once inside, but the Azhura are very proactive about protecting the dam and will assign an escort or two to every new person who comes through.

tab • Blue Knights - A branch of the Starlit Knights tasked with guarding the guts of the dam. They are every bit as powerful as those tasked with guarding Starlight City, and perhaps even more proactive about fulfilling their duties. Most have been trained to fight unarmed and with light weapons while wearing different grades of armor, specifically to prepare them for potential combat in the often cramped rooms where they work.

tab • Gator Chum - Sometimes gators fall into the dam. Most don’t survive this process, and their bodies sometimes wind up painting the walkways. On the plus side, the Blue Knights know a few different ways to turn sundry gator bits into snacks. Not good snacks, but edible ones.
