tab To the west of Kyde Village, high in the mountains, is an ancient temple that predates even Sunagakure. From the slopes leading up to this temple, one can see Kyde Village, the southern coastline of the Land of Radiance, the Kaifuu Dam, and the storms raging across the desert with perfect clarity. A perpetual cloud of sand hangs over the temple like a storm waiting to break. Despite this, the path up to the temple and its entrance are always clear. Even the wind seems to be milder up there. Local historians note that there have very rarely been any sandstorms south of this temple, as all seem to fizzle out once they hit the Kyde Mountains. This is actually one of the reasons for the mountain range's name: salt from the Plates of Folhat and fine white sand are left behind by storms as they turn northward; "Kyde" is an old word meaning "eggshells".
tab The inside of the temple is devoid of any furnishings or fancy ornamentation. It consists of two rooms: a large entryway lined irregularly with columns and a small inner room with a raised stone platform in its center and a demonic face etched into the ceiling. At the back of the inner room are hundreds of square holes that lead out the back of the mountain, allowing a steady breeze to flow through the temple, filling the air with dissonance as the architecture warps the wind. Whenever the moon is high, the sound produced seamlessly shifts to one of deranged laughter.
tab This temple likely predates all the other ruins in the Land of Radiance, but is better-preserved than structures built even just a decade ago. This fact, along with its appearance and sounds, have led to the temple being considered a highly cursed place inhabited by a powerful spirit of some kind.

tab • Cactus Garden - A patch of cacti that grow about three quarters of the way up the path. They cling to the rocks and protrude out of cliff faces, but for some reason keep clear of the path itself. A pale green flower blooms atop some of the older specimens every full moon. Hidden underneath the greenery are a great many haniwa crafted seemingly from compressed sand. It is unknown who placed them here and for what purpose, but they have survived countless years, hidden among the succulents.

tab • Dolls - Starting halfway up the path to the temple there are miniature villages of raccoon-like beings. These creatures seemingly engage in normal societies, albeit punctuated by a distinctly feral violence. They have no fur or flesh, but are rather made from sand held together by raw mana. Across their bodies runs a strange seal-like inscription that no one has yet been able to decipher. They are not immediately hostile to those who travel the path, but have no qualms about brawling around travelers and will respond violently to any threats. While some of them can speak very roughly with human words, the majority of them favor a rapid, squeak- and howl-based language. Whenever the full moon is in the sky, they will stare at it for an hour before flying into a frenzy. If a Doll is slain, its body reverts to sand and flies up to join the storm raging over the temple. They gained their name from the children of Kyde Village; before that, they didn’t have a formal name.
tab • Carrion Flies - Swarms of butterfly-sized vultures live on the mountain. While they generally avoid the path to the temple and all Dolls, they ruthlessly attack any creatures that stray. They prefer to feast on dead creatures, but do not hesitate to swarm the living. It’s not especially rare to survive being swarmed, but doing so is often unpleasant, as they like to dig through soft flesh one clawful at a time and slowly pry meat out with their blunt beaks.
tab • Stinking Gecko - As its name suggests, this is a gecko with a fantastically potent stench. Stinking Geckos are a dark forest green with white-speckled tails and love to bask on warm rocks. The odor they exude clings to whatever comes within a few paces of them and has been noted to “curdle the spit in your throat” by Azhura familiar with the creature.

tab • Prickly Blossom - A pale green flower plucked from the top of a cactus during the full moon. The tip of each petal contains a single needle. Due to their beauty and peculiar coloration, these flowers are very popular among certain collectors.
tab • Gecko Tail - A white-speckled tail plucked from the Stinking Gecko. Its fat stores the compound that creates the gecko’s signature stench in a highly concentrated form. While nutritious, it’s nearly impossible to eat without passing out from the odor.
