Nestled in a little corner off of the main street is a little-big cafe filled with books, warm drinks, and cozy little spots perfect to hide and read in. The Tanjikubotan Book Cafe, or Dahlia Cafe as residents call it, is a large building with a small part dedicated to business use. In the front is a cafe/book store/library combination. Customers can come in to order a drink and, if they have the time, sit down with one of the numerous books littering the shelves and tables. If they find a book to their fancy, they're welcome to purchase it. Dahlias, the cafe's namesake, are a running theme within the cafe's decor and can be seen subtly throughout the building.

Behind the front and taking up most of the building is a literary archive, where even more books than those on display are stored and preserved in controlled environments. The Land of Rivers, with its high levels of humidity, is known by book lovers as a not-so-great environment for the preservation of books. Until recently, it also didn't have the stability of other countries with similar preservation issues for a concentrated preservation effort to be made. While this private effort to preserve texts in Tanigakure is not strictly necessary or helpful to the village or country, the owner, an apparent literary lover, decided to pursue it nonetheless for their own satisfaction.

The owner of this little cafe does not appear to ever visit. However, researching the business records of Tanigakure will show that it is an Uchiha Kagerou who manages the business and sends books over from various other nations while also actively collecting texts of interest within Tanigakure. At the current time, the de facto owner and manager of the cafe is Kiritani Stella, a young girl who appears to have some connection to the owner. Beneath the surface, the Tenjikubotan Cafe is a small part of the Kiritani clan's conglomerate-level information web. It was established in Tanigakure by Kagerou as a small pet project in a, at the time, minor village.

The smells of food radiating through the air were enough to break the wanderers aimless thoughts. To say aimless would be a disservice to him, in fact his thought were quite focused even if they were on topics that no human could ever answer. How long had he been walking? Where the hell was he? And for gods sake when was the last time he had eaten a meal!?
Kias snapped out of his trance and dedicated himself to finding the source of these aromas. It turns out that this village was rustling and full of shops, many that the wandering man was hesitant to enter due to his disheveled appearance and clear lack of hygiene. This was not his usual disposition, in fact Kais was usually a well kept and neat individual, however the last year hadn’t been kind and the world even less so.

Kias slumped his head as he remembered the struggles of society, one couldn’t eat in civilized lands without the appropriate currency to barter with. Aside from hunting and fishing he would need to get back to work and out his skill set to use. The clamor and bustling of the area was starting to bother him so quickly kais ducked off of main streets to seek out a place to collect his thoughts. Recently he’s been plagued with the most depressing voices in the back of his head and nothing short of solitude in the Forrest could quell them, however even then they still persist in a dull whisper. He had been loosing faith in humanity recently with increasing momentum and this crowded village did little to help with that sense of insignificance.

Caught in another trance of of aimless walking off Main Street Kais found himself walking past a large cafe in a secluded part of the village, it was the strong scent of coffee and tea that drew him back to reality this time. This place was unlike the rest of the establishments he’d passed, even from the entrance he could see loads of books and individuals quietly researching amongst themselves. The step he took inside was simply his body acting on instinct. It had been months since he last read a book or submerged himself in research.
Before long he found himself a nice spot next to a widowed alcove. He hasn’t the audacity to touch any of the books in his current state, however he took full advantage of the free water pitchers and glasses that were open to the public. With only the sounds of pages turning he was able to fall into a sense of comfort while looking out the window and sipping the room temperature water in peace.

After about an hour or so of thinking out his next step, he decided that his mind was clear enough to go out and seek some work. While he wasn’t ready to deal with others, he didn’t quite fancy starving to death. Filling up one more glass of water, he drank deep as it were wine, thanked no one in particular with a low mumble and made his way for the door.

Few, however, ever stayed for so long with touching neither book nor food. Ringing up customers and preparing displays behind the counter, the young silver teen kept a keen eye on the cafe as a whole. Though, never so directly. With the soothing aromas of coffees and teas mingling in the air and musky scent of books aged well, this was an oasis of sedate atmosphere. The turning of pages could be heard beneath the low mumbles of conversation and the occasional clack of silverware. When she wasn't busy, which was often as there were few customers, the young one sat upon her stool, appearing to read a book of her own for all intents and purposes.

A loud, low grumble would eventually break the silence, drawing multiple eyes to it, including Stella's own, but apparently going completely unnoticed by the individual himself, who sat deep in thought with still nothing but a glass of water. Stella frowned, hard. Her single intact purple eye scrutinized this strange man with purple hair with a directness heretofore not shown. 1 minutes, 5 minutes, no reaction. Stella returned to completely to her own reading. Ten minutes, Fifteen minutes, her peripheral vision finally caught movement. Having drunk nothing but water on an empty stomach, he was already going out without even having a meal. She hesitated for a moment more before calling, calmly, across the cafe's dining area, "The purple haired sir about to leave, please stop right there." She shut her book with a snap while waiting to see how he would respond. Such an action as the one she had done just now was wholly unnecessary, but she had been ordered to do just that: go along with any wholly unnecessary action that might cross her head.

Sounds from just beyond the door had managed to invade Kaias’ mind as he ventured into an unknown journey. It was becoming harder to block out the anxiety inducing thoughts that permeated his usual calm demeanor and it seemed as though nothing was able to slow them down. That is, until he had just one foot beyond the threshold of the café, the soul shaking snap of a book proceeded by a voice detailing features that could have only belonged to him. Freezing in his tracks Kaias idiotically checked in his immediate vicinity to see if there happened to be someone else with the same features that were called out, once he realized that there was no one to leave accountable… the real panic set in. Somewhere in the back of his mind he knows that the free water was too good to be true, he’ll most places made you purchase something just to breath in the local air and here he had spent over an hour suckling on fresh water and enjoying the shade from the elements outside.

Turning slowly Kaias rapidly ran through excuses in his head as to why he couldn’t pay, none of them being good ones mind you. As he turned to face judgement for his crimes, the man who now wore a look of shame would notice that the very few patrons of the establishment all had their eyes glued to him. The embarrassment was overwhelming so he quickly rushed over to the counter to shyly meet the gaze of the silver haired young teen who called him out.
listen I’m very sorry about the water, I assumed it was free as it was placed out to the public.
He said tearing his eyes away from hers and looking to the floor. It wasn’t often that Kaias found himself lacking funds for a basic meal so this shame was new to him.
I’m just settling into the village but I assure you, if you give me just a few days I’ll be able to come back and pay what is owed, I just need to put my feelers out and get some work in the area.
He didn’t want to flat out tell her that he’d be taking jobs as a shinobi and possibly getting into good knows what kind of trouble, so he left things vague but honest. At this point he could only pray that she didn’t call the law or bring him further shame. Respectfully he kept his head low in hopes to appease this woman, who for all he knew was the owner of the establishment.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. For all he pleaded, the honest wanderer was met with only a shake of the young teen's silver head. "I'm afraid I cannot let you go, sir." She paused, mind searching for a reasonable excuse, and to a child like her, the most reasonable excuse would have to be, "It's against orders," which wasn't wholly false. Her soft voice spelled each word out with the precision of a blade, and would have continued in such flawless fashion until a sudden cough, short yet intrusive, interrupted what she was about to say. Ducking her head into her elbow, the head of silver hair shook lightly with the cough. "Ahem. Apologies," she hastened to explain, "Be assured that I have nothing contagious," as she rediscovered her line of thought, "Anyways, rules are rules. I cannot permit you to leave until you have ordered a meal. If you, as you insist, have no funds, then you may order a meal now, but we will need you to run a mission on behalf of our cafe after eating to pay for the meal." With her one purple eye staring straight into the traveler's dark hues and the faint scent of medicinal herbs wafting from her, the straight-faced cafe manager appeared as much an epitome of business as a teen could look.
