I caught wind from one of the jonin that Kiku covered for me when she reported our last mission. Of course, I was not angry with her, but I felt deeply ashamed of myself. On arrival at the meeting point, I waved at Kiku. "Let's go." My voice was neutral and my expression was brief as I started walking. Walking beside her to our next mission was somehow even more uncomfortable than I expected. "I don't wanna talk about it." I nipped it in the bud immediately knowing that she would catch my meaning given that it was the elephant in the room. I kept walking and it was clear from my eyes that I was sleep-deprived. My anxiety around this situation only made the swarm even louder. I was not myself yet I needed to keep busy to prevent myself from spiraling any deeper. "Did you talk to Kobayashi? The jonin with the scar over his eye. He wants us to guard some merchant carrying something valuable for a while. Should be nice and boring." Yet I had a nagging feeling that something was bound to go wrong. This was almost too mundane to be a mission that would actually go well for people like me and Kiku.

The feeling of anxiety filled Kiku like running water the closer she got to the meet up time with Nimure. She hadn’t seen him since their last mission, and for good reason. He’d been avoiding her, Kiku knew that. But she hadn’t gone out of her way to talk to him, either. She couldn’t explain why, but the puppeteer had been attempting to drown herself in work. Pupper projects, other missions, training with Momo. A bunch of things to take her mind from the knot in her chest of missing her best friend.
So when Nimure waved at her, the knot had loosened just a little. Kiku smiled at him, or attempted to, and waved back as she came up. “So do you wanna talk about-?” She’d started before the Aburame cut her off. Okay, he didn’t want to talk about last time, and that made sense. The blonde didn’t know why she thought that wouldn’t be the case. “-the mission?” Kiku finished slowly, doing her best to course correct. To make it seem like she wasn’t going to bring up previous events. Kiku turned her nose up and pouted in her usual way, crossing her arms over her chest. “Yeah yeah, the old man told me all about it. Seems kind of like a waste of time, if you ask me. If they sent two Genin to guard it, it can’t be that valuable.” As the two of them walked, Kiku gave Nimure more space than she usually did. The princess had had a habit of getting into the boy's physical space, but today it seemed like she was going out of her way to not do that. "You're both too young! I have some valuable cargo here!" She waved her cane at us before grabbing Kiku's arm. "Dear, you're skin and bones! How are you going to protect me?!" I sighed and rubbed the back of my neck knowing that Kiku was going to make a scene out of this. "I'm afraid we're the best you're getting, ma'am..." I spoke nervously as the woman yelled at me and Kiku.

“Oi, hands off!” Kiku snapped, twisting her arm out of the old woman’s grasp. She jumped back a few feet, not unlike a startled cat. Being touched wasn’t something she particularly enjoyed. Especially by some strange, rude, old woman. To anyone watching on the outside, it would seem like Kiku was just being her royal, princess self. She crossed her arms over her chest, a protective reflex more than anything, but covered it up with an indignant pout and a snobbish up turn of her nose. “And you’re lucky to be getting us, by the way! Team Kiku’s the strongest Genin in Konoha, I’ll have you know!” There was no true way for Kiku to back up that statement, but she didn’t feel like it was too far from the truth. But her own pride wasn’t going to let this nobody tell her they weren’t enough.
With a flashy jump and flip, Kiku landed on top of the merchant’s cart. “Now let’s get this show on the road! We’re wasting daylight! And the sooner we get this done, the sooner you’ll know how great we are!”
▱▰▱Seeing Kiku's interaction with the old bag was quite amusing. I watched the elder shake her cane at Kiku defiantly and respond. "Get back here, you little s**t! Didn't your parents teach you to respect old people?!" Now the woman was incensed and fired back at Kiku. "Best genin squad in the village? Then how do you not have a jonin teacher of your own? Kobayashi really sent me some second-rate rookies, sounds like! I outta turn his hide!" She was quite displeased and continued waving her cane at Kiku from a distance. I was quickly growing tired of this bizarre confrontation with the old merchant. I had seen this particular fire-brand of a geriatric in the market a couple of times but I never bought from her. I hung my head in disappointment knowing that this might turn into a long argument. "Let's just go." I went from being amused to deflate as I remembered how poorly things had gone between Kiku and me before. I moved around the cart and began pushing it forward. Kiku might be able to notice my roller coaster of emotions and behaviors. Nonetheless, I would leave the ladies in the dust if they did not get a move on. "We're going to my main supplier on the other side of the village, y'see! Bad neighborhood!" The old woman barked as they began their journey. I tried ignoring her but I was forced to face her when she spoke up. "Boy, you could try engaging me in conversation y'know..." I just shook my head as I continued pushing this heavy cart along down the road. "Sure. What do you sell, pet rocks?" I asked sarcastically as I struggled to continue pushing. "Yes actually!" She then opened a smaller hatch and showed to me and Kiku a glossy decorative mineral. I shook my head yet again and I was even more inclined to ignore her after her next question directed at Kiku. "Is he your boyfriend or something?" The old lady asked crassly and I felt nothing but shame.

“What’d you just call me?” Kiku snapped, her eyes turning into white circles as she shook her fist at the old woman. The princess had nearly forgotten that she was on the clock, but it took Nimure’s words to calm her down and remind her. Kiku watched the boy walk to the back of the cart and start pushing. The blonde girl couldn’t see his face, but he moved sluggishly, like a dog with its tail between its legs. She didn’t blame him, the events of the last mission hung over them both like a cloud. Kiku placed her hands on her hips as she watched him. He didn’t want to talk about it? Fine, she could do that. But whatever self therapy he was doing, it wasn’t working. But she wasn’t going to push it, and instead focus on the mission.
Kiku bit her thumb, drawing blood from her finger before spreading it across her right palm. A few handsigns and a slap to the dirt and the ground was suddenly covered with inscriptions. A cloud of smoke later and two toy-like animals stood before Kiku. A wind-up toy bat and a wind-up toy dog, both massively larger than their real life counterparts. The bat, Alu, flew off to circle above the caravan and keep an eye out from above. Chu, the dog, trotted to the front of the cart and began to pull it while Nimure pushed. Kiku, on the other hand, hopped onto the top of the cart and sat with her legs crossed, clasping her ankles together with her hand. She was pointedly not talking to the merchant, but didn’t know how to engage Nimure either. So the trip started in a weird silence until the woman spoke up.
“Rocks?” Kiku questioned. The girl wasn’t going to lie: she was definitely curious. Kiku rolled onto her stomach and hung herself over the roof of the cart, hanging her head down to look inside. They were rather pretty, Kiku thought, but not pretty enough to deal with this lady. It was when the hatch snapped shut and the woman asked her random question that the princess was taken off guard.
Nimure was obviously uncomfortable by the line of questioning, but most answers and no answer would just make things awkward for the rest of the mission. “Why?” Kiku asked, a smirk playing on her lips as she wiggled her eyebrows at the old woman. “Are ya interested or something? Didn’t strike me as a cradle robber, old lady. Tell ya what, I’ll trade you a rock for him.”
▱▰▱Kiku's evasiveness and standoffish personality actually came in handy for once. It allowed me to avoid the woman's interrogation. "Oh ho ho, now you're just taking the phrase 'getting your rocks off' too far!" The perverted old woman laughed at her own dirty joke at Kiku's expense. I was becoming further unsettled by her cackling as it went on for a few seconds too long. I stopped the cart outside of the warehouse on the other end of town that we were supposed to go to. "Alright we're here, easy. Goodbye." I spoke curtly to the old woman as I dropped the cart along with Kiku's toy summons and tried to walk away. However, she grabbed my shoulder and stopped me before jabbing a bony old finger into my chest. "Young man I need your help getting that cart in there! Kobayashi's orders!" I rolled my eyes as I just wanted to get away from her and Kiku as soon as possible. This whole mission was intensely awkward but she was correct that one of the orders from the jonin Kobayashi was to help her get the cart in storage. I rolled up the massive door to the garage and pushed the cart in. Once Kiku and the old lady would enter behind me, the door would slam behind them. All three of us were locked up in the building now. Kobayashi himself would flick the lights on to reveal a room filled with dozens of gangsters. I raised an eyebrow as the jonin twirled a kunai around his finger and smirked. "Thank you for the delivery, you two." I arched an eyebrow before pointing at him. "Kobayashi, what are you doing h-." I was cut off when two of the gangsters ran behind me and knocked me on the floor and restrained me with their superior strength. I strained my face as I felt them hold me down at the jonin's feet. More gangsters would encircle them and carry the old woman away as she screamed and tried to resist. A few of them would also try to apprehend Kiku. "You both have exhausted your usefulness to me." The Leaf jonin then pointed at the men who then broke open the cart filled with valuable gems and minerals. There were more than just pretty pet rocks in this particular shipment, enough for a small fortune.

Kiku was taken aback by the sudden appearance of Kobayashi, and the even more sudden appearance of all the gangsters. She didn’t have much time to appreciate the surprise before she was held to the ground next to Nimure. “If I had to-ugh-guess, I’d say they’re gonna kill us.” Kiku answered Nimure’s unfinished question with a grunt of discomfort. Something wasn’t right, though. If Kobayashi was the one giving them their missions, why’d he have them investigate the warehouse last time? Something didn’t add up, and Kiku needed answers.
"Oh please mister Kobayashi, surely you wouldn’t kill me?” Kiku pleaded with the Jonin, looking at him with tears in her widened eyes. She looked scared as her voice trembled. “I’ll do whatever you want and not tell a soul if you let me go, honest. Anything.”
▱▰▱Kobayashi ignored Kiku's pleas and paced around the warehouse. He occasionally peeked at all of the precious gems that were held in the caravan. "JUEI's been on my a** for a while. I knew they'd tail me if I took granny's mission for myself. But with you two? They'd never bat an eye." Kobayashi gave an overconfident smirk as he waved for his guards to seal the warehouse shut. Once his goons forced the caravan fully open the royalties would spill out onto the floor. Gemstones rolled toward Kiku and me as we were held on the floor. Kobayashi made another hand motion as me and Kiku were lifted off the floor but still restrained by the henchmen. They moved us closer to where Kobayashi stood by the outpouring of gems. "Stop crying!" He moved in to slap Kiku across the face which enraged me. I finally felt my fingers come together from behind my back to form a crude handseal. My body was suddenly replaced by a pile of sapphires, rubies, and diamonds. I completely dissolved in the gangsters hands as I reappeared next to Kobayashi by the treasure. "Substitution?!" One gangster yelled out in confusion as he felt the gems fell through his arms onto the floor. When I appeared behind Kobayashi I used my kunai to cut his throat. "Don't touch her!" My protectiveness completely overcame the awkwardness of my situation with Kiku. Blood spewed profusely from Kobayashi's neck to splash onto Kiku's face before he could cover the cut with his hand. Before I could respond, the goons jumped into action by forming handsigns and unleashing one fireball each at me.

It looked like things were going south with this mission almost as quickly as the last. Kobayashi didn’t seem to fall for her little trick, but it did take enough focus from Nimure for him to counter attack. But once again Kiku stood and watched her friend, a mixture of awe and fear evident on her face as he cut the man’s neck open. Blood splattered on the girl’s face and it was enough to bring her back to focus. And not a moment too soon, as a barrage of fireballs were sent flying towards the Aburame. Kiku formed a sign with one hand and pressed her other hand to the ground, instantly generating a blanket of golden sparks that turned the ground into gold dust. With her will, the dust rose up around her and Nimure and blocked them from the burning flames. [Iron Sand Shield B Rank] “Nimure!” She snapped. Flashes of his last freakout played in her mind and how his insects went wild. “Now is not the time to lose your cool!” Kiku turned her back to him just as her wall of dust fell, revealing the enemies to the two of them.
Kiku made motions with her hands, gesturing for her summons to attack. Chu sprang to life and separated himself at the joints. The assembly of mechanical limbs surrounded the shinobi that attacked and immediately set off a barrier of electricity, to zap and burn them. [The Chase is On! C Rank Spiritual] At the same time, Alu came crashing through a window. The toy bat lifted his wings and the fans on the underside let out a violent blast of wind. [Wind Burst D Rank Spiritual] With her focus on the goons, Kiku unlocked the seals on her body. Instantly three clouds of smoke appeared alongside her as she summoned her Knight, Archer, and Castle puppets. “I’m going to protect you this time.” With her puppets active, Kiku had a view on all sides around her now. As she spoke, her tone was a fair bit softer than it had been moments ago. “So go get that old lady and lets get out of this s**t hole. Okay?”

▱▰▱I sighed gratefully and slapped my forehead a few times after Kiku came to my rescue and protected me from the flames. I tried to get my s**t together now that most of the threats were averted. "I-uh-yeah." I responded to Kiku as I prevented myself from "bugging out" or at least that was what I was beginning to call my episodes. I looked around and saw that the trader was knocked out on the floor. I figured that the goons must have knocked her out while they were attacking me. I put her small, frail body on my strong back after checking that her vitals were fine. Once we all ran out of the building and got to a safe enough distance, I set the elderly woman down on a bench before hailing a police shinobi. "I'm Nimure Aburame, genin, I was sent on a trap mission by Kobayashi. It was a set up and him and some gangsters tried to kill us. If you go to that warehouse back there you'll find the gangsters and the jewel cart that we were assigned to escort. Kobayashi is dead." I gave the officer a quick run down and knew that I would have to be the subject of an investigation after killing Kobayashi in self-defense but I was rather certain that it would all be okay. The police would run back to take care of the crime scene as I looked over at Kiku. I tenderly wiped Kobayashi's blood from her face as I spoke. "I guess I'll have to put "slitting a rogue jonin's throat" on my assassination resume for JUEI." I smirked under my mask and let out a chuckle to at least reassure Kiku that I was okay. In retrospect, I realize that I felt no remorse for what I did but I always had a ruthlessly protective streak. Or perhaps this was the beginning of the long process of hardening my heart that a career as an assassin would afford me. "That's enough of a break. Let's get grandma here over to the hospital and call it a day." I checked her out earlier and knew that she would be okay but I figured that dropping her off at the hospital would be the appropriate procedure.

Kiku rushed outside of the warehouse with Nimure, doing her best to distance herself from the scene. After Nimure flagged down some police, the young puppeteer collapsed to a sitting position on the ground. Panting while she tried to calm her nerves and her adrenaline, Kiku looked around to make sure everyone was okay. Were they being followed? How many were there still? Her eyes were frantic until Nimure entered her field of vision. He bent down and wiped away the blood from her face and the single touch instantly got her heart to stop.
This was the closest she’d been to Nimure since their incident in the last mission, and for a second the world felt like it was just the two of them. Her purple eyes glistened as she saw the familiar traces of a smile on Nimure’s face. Nothing so obvious, but the girl had been friends with him long enough to be able to see it in his face. It was a sight for sore eyes and she didn’t realize how much she’d missed it. It was enough to put a smile on the young ninja’s face as well.
It wasn’t long lived however as he talked about moving again. “That was a break?” She groaned and rolled her eyes but still stood to her feet. Kiku dusted her hands off and looked around to their client. “Are you okay, granny?” She asked in her usual bratty tone, in more of an attempt to make things seem normal. Kiku cracked an eye open to look at Nimure next. “And how are you feeling, bug boy?”
▱▰▱I walked with Kiku away from the scene and escorted the elderly woman back to the hospital. "Fine, no thanks to you two! I almost died! And, even worse, my products are being impounded by the police for evidence!" The old merchant shook her fist at the heavens while she shouted at them. It was a funny sight and I could not contain my laughter at the absurdity. Once we dropped her off safely, I started walking away quickly. "Hurry..." I spoke under my breath humorously to Kiku as we got away from the old bat. "I almost left her behind." I joked about my temptation not to save her because she was such a piece of work. I slowed down once we got far enough away and looked at my watch. "I'm fine, kind of need to have some fun though." I side glanced Kiku and widened my sleepy eyes deviously. "Meet you at the bowling alley in an hour? Unless you're worried about me humiliating you again..." I chuckled at her expense and if she agreed to a rematch with me then I would run home to wash up and relax for a bit before heading over. I took a shower and changed clothes as if to cleanse myself of the brutality of the mission.
▱▰▱Once we got to our lane I took a sip of soda before making another joke. "I can ask them for the bumpers for you." Another joke at her expense as I picked out by bowling ball and rolled it down the lane and knocked down all but two pins. Once Kiku would take her turn I reflected a bit as he listened to the hypnotic sounds of music and the clacking of bowling balls to pins in other lanes. Isn't it kind of ******** up that I can slice a man's throat open and then go bowling two hours later like nothing happened? I was unsure if this was my own psychopathy or if I was just getting accustomed to the job like every other shinobi. I tried to put the flaws of myself and society out of my mind though as I spent time with my best friend after a long and awkward hiatus between us since the last mission.

“You could at least say thank you…” Kiku sighed, turning her back on the old woman. The young puppeteer rubbed her temples as Nimure took her away from the old witch and left her to her devices. But the job was, more or less, completed. Kiku just doubted they’d be getting a good service review from the old bag. The blonde princess shoved her hands into her pockets and sulked away with Nimure, who at least was keeping a light heart about it all. But as soon as he mentioned recreational activities, Kiku’s eyebrows rose. “Are you serious? We just had our own superior turn on us for some extra coin! There’s no way in hell we’re gonna go bowling!”
A few hours later Kiku sat cross legged in one of those plastic bowling alley chairs. The two of them were surrounded by abstractly patterned carpet, disgusting pizza, screaming children, and raging musical hits from twenty years ago. Kiku rolled her eyes at Nimure’s jab at her bowling game. She let him have it, since she’d gotten her jab at him as soon as they were assigned a lane by inputting his name into the display as “Pee-Mure.” Kiku took a sip of her soda, which was held in place by her legs and mixed with some of the alcohol she carried on her. She wondered what it was about her and Nimure that let them kill other people and then go out and celebrate like nothing happened. She decided not to stew on it for too long and instead focus on literally anything else. “Yeah, yeah.” Kiku scoffed as she passed Nimure for her turn to bowl. It felt nice, the casual ribbing of each other. “I’ll make sure to test ‘em with your face, now move it and watch and learn.” Kiku lifted a ball, stepped up to take her turn, let the ball loose down the lane…
And the ball immediately rolled right into the ditch on the left of the lane.
▱▰▱I almost felt bad for Kiku hitting a gutter ball right out of the gate. Until I looked up at the scoreboard to see my name as Pee-mure and that changed everything. I immediately began cackling mockingly at Kiku and almost doubled over. "What am I supposed to be learning? How to lose?" As the ball rolled back to us in the slot I immediately grabbed it from the fingerholes. As I held up the ball I looked down the alley and returned to my usual bored expression. I slowly lifted the heavy ball up before throwing it over my shoulder across the alley without rolling it. The ball slammed into the pins and allowed for an immediate strike. I shoved my fist into the air and laughed again. "Yes! Easy as it gets!" One of the employee saw me perform the move and shook his head while pointing at me. "Sorry! She made me do it!" I pointed at Kiku and started to smell that there was more in her drink than just soda. I smirked as I removed my mask to plop a cigarette in my mouth and set it alight. I felt the smoke fill my lungs and numb the headache the swarm was giving me. Since my anxiety started spiking they used the opportunity to start screeching. The cigs helped me get rid of the brain fog and refocus as I started up at the scoreboard to see that Pee-mure was in the lead of course.
▱▰▱I was quite enjoying my hot streak as I enjoyed my cancer sticks. I stole some sips from Kiku's cup secretly to get some alcohol to mellow me out. Since she had plenty to share, I did not care to ask. I then ordered some pepperoni pizza just to get the most out of my delinquency. I sighed as Kiku would get back up to roll the bowling ball again. "Since I'm such a sweet and generous guy, let me give you a hand." I put my smoke out in the ashtray attached to the table before grabbing Kiku's ball and handing it to her as it was returned from the gutter. "Just keep your stance centered like this." I adjusted her legs from the side before standing behind her and gently readjusting her hands. "Then just slowly roll it like this." As my hands touched hers and I briefly helped redirect her roll I felt my face flush before trying to dismiss it. I stepped away as soon as possible when she would stick the roll. "Uh yeah, that's how it's done, anyway." I played it off awkwardly as I stepped away from her and lit up another cigarette. I looked back toward the alley just to distract myself but I figured this would help her.

Active Effects Specialized Breeds: • Kochū: A breed which resembles leeches with slug like bodies and sharp drill-like maws since they lack wings they must typically be applied manually by throwing or being within close range and them rapidly slithering and leaping. Are capable of swimming and burrowing however, making them rather sneaky like the Aburame who typically use them. Aburame who house Kochū often dabble in poisons. Insect techniques utilizing Kochū will impart a [Poison] following typical Tier-Progression. This Poison cannot be cured naturally with an Antidote and can only be cured via the [Poison Removal] Iryojutsu or an alternative method of purging the body of the insects. If the Aburame is Poisoned, the Kochū may cure that poison and adopt its properties simultaneously with the user spending an X-amount of chakra equal to the poison tier to stimulate their development. • Yorochū: A breed which sports a much thicker carapace and are a heartier beetle. The main advantage of this breed is that it allows for a much sturdier host. This increases the host's stat caps granted by class for Endurance and Strength by 1. When used for Defensive Insect Techniques those insect techniques are treated as Overwhelming up to S-rank. Status Effects: • None

Personal Attributes ▱▰▱ Harmonic Hive | Once per post, Nimure is able to korabo one Aburame and one Harmonic Death Arts technique. ▱▰▱ Swarm of Pestillence | By applying 10 chakra at no action cost, Nimure's insects inflict tiered disease status on contact based on the rank of the Aburame technique. ▱▰▱ Swarm of Acidity | By applying 10 chakra at no action cost, Nimure's insects become acidic and inflict tiered corrosion status on contact based on the rank of the Aburame technique. ▱▰▱ Unstable Mutation | When your Kikaichu adapts to a specific element the Kikaichu also gains that element. Insect techniques utilizing these Kikaichu can apply up to Tier-2 of their elemental status. Tier-4 if [Ninjutsu] class. Temporarily share your Kikaichu's adaptive resistance gaining a 1-rank reduction of its currently adapted resistance. ▱▰▱ Give and Take | The Chakra your Kikaichu drain to reproduce themselves can instead be stored within their bodies. When the Kikaichu return to you the host you can instead regain the chakra that was drained at the expense of the Kikaichu that were used to drain said chakra. Because of this your initial Chakra pool is also expansive netting you an additional +100 Chakra. ▱▰▱ Hive Meister | The max amount of Insects you can store in your body increases by [100]. You can house [2] Specialized Breeds instead of [1]. The Aburame may cast Ninjutsu using Insects instead of Chakra as the resource. When preforming ninjutsu in this manner, their insects swarm through their ninjutsu, latching to any targets it contacts. These ninjutsu techniques can be used in exchange for bugs at 1.5 times the cost.
Class Information First Class: Medical ▱▰▱ Maladies Physician → Shinobi of this discipline are experts in iryojutsu and are especially well-versed in afflictions. Their medical techniques cure all symptoms of status effects applied to the user, rather than where most of the techniques cure them one at a time. In addition, medical techniques which inflict a status may inflict three different applications of the status, rather than just one. The user's crafted poisons also carry this property. The shinobi also obtains 5 custom techniques for medical ninjutsu as well as a Medical Ninjutsu Keystone technique. Refer to the Keystone Guideline for more information. Second Class: Taijutsu ▱▰▱ Brawler → Your taijutsu is just one side of your skill, as you are also versed in utilizing ninjutsu as well. Your Speed and Agility are enhanced by [+1] and you gain an additional [4] ninjutsu slots per rank. Once every other post all three of your actions in a post can be used for offensive taijutsu. Additionally, the user gains a keystone technique and two additional custom slots for taijutsu. Refer to the Keystone Guideline for more information. ► Signature Style: Harmonic Death Arts ▱▰▱ Cross Class: → Medical – Taijutsu: The user is able to cast healing medical ninjutsu on themselves for no hand signs. Once every three posts, this ability can be used for no activation. In addition, the user's medical and taijutsu techniques are reduced in resources by five per rank of the technique.
