CHILDHOODSouleymane is the first born child of Wekesa Afolayan who is extremely suspicious of this fact. Though he and his wife were married at the time, his wife Chikere was a serial cheater and he found the time of conception concerning. Ignoring her outraged proclamations that Su really was his, he’s agreed to raise and care for her though at bare minimum. Su has always known this and it became even more apparent after the births of her two younger siblings who never had their paternity challenged and his attitudes towards them were polar opposite to her. In her earlier years, she actively tried to get his positive attention and favor but after overhearing a shouting match between her parents with him yelling that his wife should learn to keep her mistake away from him or it would suffer the consequence. It didn’t take Su long to figure out it was them he was talking about. So after that day, she would only bask in her father’s presence whenever he had tasks only they could fulfill or whenever he just generally needed a verbal punching bag. Her mother doesn’t offer much help in getting her husband to really accept Su but is always up for arguing about her supposed (definite) infidelity. To occasionally escape their unpleasant home, Su would be allowed to visit their remaining grandparents who eagerly doted on their first grandchild. She learned early on that attempting to complain to them about her homelife would make things better for a few days at a time before it would just get worse than before. Currently, Su is just awaiting her school owl to give her parents an extended break from her presence.
SCHOOL YEARS
◊ FIRST YEARGreatly enjoyed her first year, even though it was hard being away from their sisters for this long period. She attempted to make up for it with small hidden games and puzzles around their rooms or computer and of course constant mail home but still, it sucked. They were able to make friends though with those in her own house and others due to classes and even clubs. They joined clubs! Art club and astronomy were her main ones but she was contemplating the DnD one next year. ◊ SECOND YEARSu's second year was even better! Her friends were still her friends, she enjoyed all her clubs, and there was even a carnival that her sisters got to visit her at! Speaking of them, she had to greatly increase the skill of the puzzles to keep them occupied, making it so the clues were pieces of a much larger map that would ultimately lead them to their great prize. What made it even better was that none of the clues were linear so it was possible to find one part of the map but the clues lead to a completely different thing! Truly, it was her masterpiece. ◊ THIRD YEARSu's year was going great! Her friends were amazing, classes were going great, clubs were fun, it was all so great! So they didn't actually go home for the winter holidays, they still had fun with their grandparents. And their sisters really enjoyed the gifts they'd worked on! so it was fine. Honestly! She took up knitting and everything! ◊ FOURTH YEARThis year was a bit...off. Things that they used to be able to brush off suddenly became too much to handle and they found themselves withdrawing a bit from her friends. To the point that even Sierra pointed out how weird that was. After a cold winter walk with Lewis it became clear what, at least partially, was the issue. Well not so much issue, not so much of anything really. That was a joke. Kinda like their gender! xxx🧀PERSONALITY🌠xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx RESOLUTE Resolute, confident, stubborn– call her what you will, Lyn has been assured since birth that she is perfectly wonderful the way she is. Her self-confidence and assuredness lend to her competitive spirit and sometimes her obstinance over small things. When she gets on a train of thought, she stays until the last stop or until she realizes it’s doomed and it’s time to bail out. Generally though, as long as you’re not in her way or doing something that annoys her, Lyn’s pretty relaxed and ambivalent about things.
WRY Lyn was raised in part by her grandparents and house elves, in part by her older sibling, and in part by the internet. Her sense of humor tends towards crass, silly, over-the-top, with deep pools of dark, bitter, and bleak. Anything considered “troll” or “cheese” is usually down her alley, and if she can retort with a witty one-liner or reference, that’ll be what she says, even if it’s not what she actually thinks about something. She also tends to find offensive things quite funny, even though a bit of retrospect will get her to admit said funny things might be toxic.
IRRITABLE Lyn has an issue with being constantly annoyed, frustrated, angry, or tired. It’s totally not because she spends all night playing games instead of sleeping. It’s also totally not because she’s impatient and idolizes efficiency. The only thing Lyn likes more than beating someone in video games is beating something in an IRL thing. Usually though, the “IRL world” just isn’t as interesting to her as her fictional worlds, or isn’t as clear–life has no UI, human bureaucracies are terribly inefficient, and that’s all incredibly annoying.
FOCUSED While Lyn doesn’t consider herself the type to sit down and study, she has always done decently in her studies because she doesn’t procrastinate. Whether she’s doing homework, gaming, exercising, or studying (game strategy of course), Lyn concentrates and gets things done efficiently, one task at a time. She enjoys quantifiable systems and practical applications, especially anything that can explain how the world (game world or real world) is the way it is and help her make IRL solutions more efficient (or more funny). Lyn approaches things with raw power– she’ll think things through cleverly up to a point, but then she just says “Duck it, as long as I can punch harder, it doesn’t matter.”
UNAWARE Lyn got just about everything she wanted as a child, and grew to just kind of expect things to conform to her needs. She generally doesn’t pay attention to things around her unless and until it relates to her or gets in her way— and then it annoys her. She’s a straightforward, no-nonsense person, and flowery language tends to come across as at best confusing, at worst disingenuous. Lyn doesn’t intentionally try to be harsh or selfish, she just says what’s on her mind (or whatever funny reference she can make). She does, however, automatically share everything with Efe. That’s just expected. She and Efe are different people, but they deserve the same things. If she gets two candies, that automatically follows that one was for Efe. If she gets three, then it automatically follows that one was for Efe, one is for her, and they split the other one (what about Su? Whoops. Sorry.)

xxx🧀BACKSTORY🌠xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 🧀🌠EARLY CHILDHOOD Lyndwe and Efemena Afolayan were born 10 minutes apart but on different days, to Wekesa Afolyan and Chikere Kariuki. In stark contrast to his attitude towards their older sibling Souleymane, Wekesa doted on Lyn and Efe. Between their father’s business investments and their mother’s serial cheating and general apathy towards their existence, the three children were often dropped off at an available grandparents’ or left with Su in charge. Despite being purebloods, they initially attended private muggle elementary school. Wekesa berated Su for the same grades he praised Efe and Lyn for, and Chikere didn’t seem to care anyways.
Lyn found herself drawn towards games– sports games, video games, board games– she liked doing things and figuring out how they worked, then using that data somehow—to make an efficient solution, to win a debate, to impress Baba, and best of all, to do something funny. She quickly realized this was not the attitude her teachers hoped from her and brought up homeschooling, and with Su starting at Hogwarts the next year, the twins were homeschooled. Lyn was allowed to focus her attention on her game studies: she learned programming, robotics, and streaming through a combination of tutors and the internet, learned to read by looking up words for Magic: the Gathering guides and forum posts. In the afternoons, Lyn and Efe were sent to the MagiScouts camp. Lyn was somewhere between exhausted and excited but paid more attention in MagiScouts than she had in primary school at least. Throughout this, the twins' learning was supplemented by puzzle modules and challenges that Su left for them. Lyn loved these challenges and eagerly searched for and completed them. Despite the physical distance, she grew closer to Su over this time, sending silly messages and updates.

Sometimes to her benefit and other times to her detriment, Efe has made a habit of being as thorough as possible in everything she does. The cleaning is not done until every tile is shined to perfection. Her homework is not done until every answer has been explained ad nauseum. (It may explain why she likes math, because at least things will boil down to an answer, even if that answer is infinity.)
xxxxx⇾Fᴏᴄᴜsᴇᴅ The pursuit of thoroughness tempts her towards many distractions, but Efe keeps an organized log of possible rabbit holes and will methodically either go down the sidetracks or strike them off her list as irrelevant to the current goal. Efe always makes sure she has a goal going in and sticks to that goal. She never intentionally procrastinates, although she will admit that sometimes her insistence of perfectionism is itself a form of procrastination (But what’s the point of doing something herself if she’s not going to do it well and finish it well?)
xxxxx⇾Rᴇᴀʟɪsᴛɪᴄ Real life is messy and Efe doesn’t like messes– But Efe loves reality. There’s a beauty in how deep things go in real life, in how something as simple as “angles” is part of explaining how buildings are built and mountains were made. Fiction is lovely, but truth can be stranger than fiction and it’s also real. Just as mathematics explains the natural world, Efe believes there is a philosophy that explains the human world. Maybe we haven’t agreed on it yet, but she believes there is, and finding that underlying.
xxxxx⇾Sᴛᴜᴅɪᴏᴜs While Wekesa has never doubted that the twins are his or demanded perfection from them the way he does from Su, their older sibling, Efe has always maintained stellar academics. She gets a sense of personal satisfaction from good grades and considers herself a hard-working student and daughter. She is constantly pursuing a worthy, productive cause of some sort. Her studious nature is not just for academics– in fact, it’s better exemplified by her attentiveness towards everyday tasks.
xxxxx⇾Hᴏɴᴇsᴛ Efe spends all her time studying and being as diligent and thorough as possible, and she simply doesn't have the time or energy to keep track of lies. White lies are whatever if you don’t get caught, but it’s not just a white lie if it matters, it’s an act of sabotage. And since there’s no way to know what actually matters to who at what time, it’s best just to be honest and straightforward. Despite that, Efe tries to be as polite as possible when sharing the truth. Just because you’re being honest and straightforward doesn’t mean you can be rude about it! Civilities don’t exist because they’re “just nice”--they’re polite because they exist to establish grounds and boundaries for honest communication.
xxxxx⇾Gᴜʟʟɪʙʟᴇ Despite spending a majority of her time studying everything she can, Efe is pretty susceptible to misinformation. Her honest nature manifests as thinking that everyone else is honest as well, despite the statistics saying otherwise. Sometimes, her previous research will allow her to notice and call out incorrect information (which she assumes the situation is. Clearly not lying, just dumb). Unfortunately, if she isn't well-read on the subject, she's wont to believe whomever tells her the info.... at least until she does her research. If she does catch someone in a lie, they'll usually be on the receiving end of an icy glare.

Efe loves Lyn wholeheartedly, more than any other person or thing in the world. If ever they were to not be so close... well, Efe didn't know what she'd do with herself.

xxx𝒞𝒽𝒾𝓁𝒹𝒽𝑜𝑜𝒹xxx Efemena was born the younger twin to Lyndwe, being born only 10 minutes apart, yet on different days. Their mother, Chikere Kariuki was a perpetual cheat, having little to no care for consequence. Their father, Wekesa Afolayan, was seldom home, always off on important business trips. For some reason Efe simply couldn't fathom, their parents seemed to dote over the twins, while on the same hand, shunning Souleymane, their older sister. The girls often had to look out for one another, simply because their parents were too busy... or too busy to mind them. Su often had to babysit the menaces twins when their parents hopped out. For longer leaves, all three would go to one of their grandparents' houses to have an actual grown-up in charge.
When the twins were old enough, they enrolled in the nearest private primary school. It didn't take long before Efe found herself positively fascinated by maths class. The teacher was very kind, and often helped foster Efe's curiosity with slightly more advanced work. Even though maths was her favorite, she worked as hard as possible in all her classes. After school, Lyn would entertain herself with games, and Efe would sink into studies.
Efe tried video games with her sister, but found her coordination just frustrated her. You had to be fast at them, and her hands just didn't cooperate. Luckily, Lyn liked board games too, which required far less dexterity... unless it was Mousetrap or Jenga, of course.
It wasn't but a couple years later that the teachers at their school were subtly requesting Lyn move to an "alternative" school option. Apparently she just didn't exactly fit in... academically... As much as Efe quite loved being at school, she requested to leave too. She was asked if there was a problem, bullies, or anything else, but Efe couldn't bring herself to lie. She just wanted to stay with her sister. The girls were then moved to homeschooling, along with MagiScouts to round out their knowledge. At least Scouts had a ton of interesting class options.... though none were maths.
The next year, their big sister departed for Hogwarts, leaving two very sad twins behind. Luckily, Su had anticipated their upset, and had left a long, twisty set of puzzles for Lyn and Efe to solve. It brought them a ton of enjoyment, feeling close to their sister despite such a long distance. They even worked together to make a few puzzles to send over.
Maybe someday Hogwarts would allow family to visit (as they should!), but until then, they'd keep doing puzzles until they were old enough to join.
