New Spider-Man Costume

I don't know how many of you keep up with comic books (I only collect the ASM trades, personally), but Marvel has recently updated Spider-Man's original red and blue costume with a red and gold high-tech costume built by Tony Stark, aka Iron Man.

I'm not at all surprised that on the newsthing you hosted on imageshack a whopping 60% of all Spideyfans loved the Venom costume. But then again Venom is loved WAY too much.

I am surprised, confused yet interested in the new Spiderman look. On the one hand, my Spiderman fanboy is going "NUU THE OLDSKOOL IS DEAD" but on the other hand my Joe Quesada fanboy is screaming "YEAH, AW YEAH". I'd have to see this thing in action during the Marvel Civil War before I make any judgments.

I think the behind-the-scenes intention of the writers and artists going into the Civil War was to ensure that a fan-favourite like Spidey would last more than five minutes against the other LEGION of heroes gunning for him. I mean, he's an agile guy who shoots webs, and they're putting him up against Captain America and about half of the Marvel supers. Something's gotta change, but hopefully not permanently.

As for costume changes, well it happens when fans lose interest in the old costume and need something to drag them back into the fanbase. When they see their hero has undergone the costume equivalent of a Full Brazilian and a Facelift they're obviously going to bug out.

And I stopped reading the Spiderman comics around where Mary Jane got knocked up with Parker's kid and was poisoned. Stopped buying them long before that.

Now I love the old school Spidy.. but I do like this new costume.
I think they introduced it nicely as well. It's not some over the top transition either.. think about it.. they really didn't go balistic with styling it, they kept it reasonable and logical... and I rather like it.
Perhaps we'll see more DC Hero's get a little costume upgrade.

I'm against most change as far as my comics are concerned. I like the classic stuff best.

I like the change. I've enjoyed the old costume but I'm glad to see a upgrade on Spiderman's costume, more of a modern feel to it now, and the fact the Tony Stark created kinda got me hype. surprised

it's an okay costume. maybe they shouldve added some blue to it so it could kinda resemble the old one. Like Ben Reilly's outfit. That one was one of my favs.

I bet it's alot easier to draw without having to put the webbing detail all over it like the old costume. I like it but the old costume will always be better.

Why did they make it Iron Man's colours, just because Stark made it? They also upgraded it to have the alien suit's camo abilities. I hope Peter takes showers often, it looks like he'll never have to change clothes until he decides to get rid of this costume.

i think the new suit is cool. and its so great that venoms in the new movie. he's like my favourite spervillain

It looks WAY too much like Iron Man. Sure, maybe it's like a trademark, but to me, comics are one of the only pure things left in the world, so they shouldn't make that big of a change. On the other hand, it isn't the first time Spidey had a suit change.

Done. The costume looks... okay; it just would have been nicer with a different colour scheme. ‘You thought the bright red and blue costume was garish! Wait till you see the Spider Man in gold!’. But the old costume will always be better. Now he’s a mix of Iron Man and Doc Oc. And since when do spiders fly?

I haven’t been keeping up with the new comics. The comic store hasn’t had anything passed volume 8 of The Amazing Spider-Man. And I wasn’t overly impressed with that volume, so I haven’t exactly been looking hard.

I can understand wanting to ‘upgrade’ Spider-Man’s costume, but it seems to have nullified two of his powers. Is he still using his ability to stick to walls and will he ever web-sling again if he can just fly? I'm sure he’s still using his webbing as a weapon, but it won’t be the same. Before he was the man with spider powers, now it seems he’s the man in a power-suit designed with spider-like appendages...

Or maybe I just take comics to seriously.
