Im doing a dialectical essay, or in otherwords i have to take an essay, and find good points, and bad points about it.

The ONLY PROBLEM IS What is good about being anorexic/bulimic.

...Well, good points could include: not being obese, increased popularity maybe... you wouldn't have to worry much about food poisoning...

It sound like a hard point to make though.

neutral "I'm anorexic and if I don't get a handle on this I'll have health problems."
smile "Hey, look on the bright side. At least you aren't on the other extreme end of the scale!"
neutral "Uh, well I guess that's good . . . "

anorexia and bulimia, aside from the purely physical aspects, gives the sufferer a certain dimension of control over their own physical form - which can bolster their self-confidence and sense of self image. while of course the health risks associated with these eating disorders highly outweighs the benefits, there is far more to it than simply being thin.

True, but that doesn't include the laxative, and medication abuse, thats hard on their system... stare

An essay on both the bad and good points of eating disorders? I'm pretty sure all of them are pretty one-sided. It's like trying to find the benefits of cigarettes; okay, they make you feel better for a bit. Anything else?

Best of luck with your essay, I'm pretty stumped.

Wow that is a difficult task you have there!!
I studied eating disorders in A-Level psychology and as far as I can see there really is no plus-side. That's why it's called a disorder, not a life-style choice. sweatdrop

Are you really sure that you need to put in good points? Well, I'd recommend (unless the teacher gave you an ultra rigid format, then no) that you say: "Well, the truth is that you should never allow youself to fall to bullemia or anorexia, but at least you're super ultra excessively thin. Really, that's what people want to have but the reason why it's a disorder is that it's going way overboard and will hurt you. And you get attention if you try to get help" DON'T USE THAT EXACT TEXT OR ELSE THE TEACHER WILL FIND OUT. You should see how easily my Dad, who's a proffesor, does these things. The stories are hillarious.
` Anyways, what I'm saying is that you can't be stating the good points of such eating disorders as if one could say that they are good.

` If you're analyzing some other text, and then writing this down, you should just look carefully at it until you see some good point written down.

I'm pretty sure the assignment is due and done already, so there's not much point to kicking the dead horse. neutral
