Contest Objectives

The contest will progress in a similar fashion to the real American idol.

Week One: Open to all. Record a clip of yourself singing the song of your choice, preferably keeping it between 15 and 45 seconds. Once the deadline for entries is reached, the top eight contestants will be selected by way of one weeklong poll.

Week Two: The top 8 compete and whoever gets the fewest votes at the poll is eliminated at the end of the week.

Week Three: The top 7 compete and whoever gets the fewest votes at the poll is eliminated at the end of the week.
Theme: Pre-90's

Week Eight: The top 2 contestants compete to see who will be the first ATG Idol! This will also determine once and for all the order in which prizes will be selected. Whichever contestant gets the most votes wins!

Resources

Here are some resources that should help many of the ATGers do their best in this contest.

eSnips

eSnips is where I store all of the karaoke files that I make over the Internet. They allow up to one gigabyte of storage and haven't failed me yet. In addition, they offer direct downloading of the files.

Putfile

Putfile is another file upload service - similar to eSnips. The difference is that it allows unlimited uploads compared to the one gigabyte that eSnips offers. Putfile does not allow direct downloads of the files.

Audacity

Audacity is a FOSS Audio Editor and Recorder for Microsoft Windows, Apple MacOS X, and GNU/Linux. In addition to recording new input and editing existing music files, the many plugins available (normalize volume, raise/lower pitch, increase volume, manipulate tempo) makes this a decent audio editor and recorder for the people that cannot afford better tools. In addition (with a bit of work) Audacity can also create MP3 files. Please remember that, if you use Audacity for a song entry, modifying the voice in any way other than increasing the volume is illegal.

Voting

As a fairer way of voting than the Poll system, I will be using SurveyMonkey for our voting instead of the Thread Poll. It will be password protected - but the password will be in this thread. Please don't leak this to others as I want to keep the contest in the guild.
