Water defeats Fire. Fire defeats Earth. Earth defeats Wind. Wind defeats Water.

Water and Earth are compliments on the great wheel. Water feeds the Earth while the Earth shapes and guides the Waters. As this is, it is the same with Wind and Fire. Fire cannot exist without the Winds, and the Winds are driven by the fires.
Light and Dark are locked in the eternal struggle, neither gaining ground on the other. But, when Light and Dark are forced to reconcile their differences, Shadow is born. Shadow is the balance of light and the dark. The Yin and the Yang. But, there is somehting beyond the petty struggles of these 7 elements. Waiting in the cold nothingness, Void awaits to consume and purify that to which it gave birth.

Chapter I: Beginnings of a New Adventure.

As you enter the city of Arrius for the first time while riding on the many caravans that bring immagrants to the city, you notice this is completely different from the farming villages that dotted the lands. The majesty of the city would take anyone not aquainted to this setting by complete surprie. As you look up at the high, almost infinite spires if the temples, the palaces, and the universities, you hear a rumbling sound and an airship, more massive than any other seen on the continent of Xian, flies overhead, floating lazily amoung the clouds before angling for a descent to the Emperor's distant palace.

You then look around at the bulidings. everything is made of the finest marble, and there are no sharp corners to be seen. The city seems like it was made by the gods themselves. Everything is doen in an artistic way, and statues of saints, nobles, and former emperors and empresses line th grand road that leads to the main courtyard of Arrius. As the wagon you ar on stops, one thing would be of note: A large statue of an unusually neko man dressed in the most expensive robes embracing a beautiful wolf-girl. A large laque on the base of the statue reads 'Leonardo Virgil Motosuwa, founder and First Emperor of Arrius and his Queen The Most Gracious Elendie Motosuwa.' As you stare at the detail carved into the stone, an Arrian Mage-Guard comes and pulls on your arm lightly saying to you in a calm, laid back voice, "Wilcomé a Arrius. (Welcome to Arrius)."

The guard urges you off of the wagon, and you obey silently, now ready to embark on an new adventure.

Bio: At birth, a strange event came to pass, and he ended up alone on the streets of an unknown city. A young woman, the wife of Leon, had found the poor boy and rescued him, adopting him as their own. A year later, Leon found that the boy they had named Kenshin was the lost infant, and invoked the family seal, which is located on the forehead, though not seen. Kenshin, now the sibling of about seven children, looked after them and protected them from the everyday harm, such as snakes and the occasional wild animals. During one of the family's escapades in Midgard (Our World) many years later, Kenshin had been critically injured, and could not be moved for a period of time. A year after, he went on an unknown mission, and returned two years later. Many events happened around this time, too many to say really. Several years later, he once again left, yet this time, without a word. He is now currently missing since the time he left. One of the Motosuwa daughters left the family in search of him. Though he was there at the site of the future city of Arrius, he has no memories of seeing the actual place. There are no known records of him within the Arrian libraries and universities.

Powers/Weapons: He is immune to the heat and burning of fire ever since at a young age. He has other skills and powers, though unsure of just what they are.. He has no known weapons.

Name: Hiruga

Age: Unknown

Race: Guardian Demon

Description: Hiruga can be a bit laconic (Blunt), though he means well. He normally keeps to himself, and seldom communicates with anyone outside the Motosuwa family. His fangs and claws don't form while he is calm, and it takes a lot of patience to make him angry enough.

Bio (optional): Hiruga was summoned by Leon during Kenshin's birth, and having a debt to pay from long ago, he agreed and became Kenshin's second half. Both Hiruga and Kenshin are one soul, though due to an fatal accident during the process, not in one body, though Kenshin attained some features of him. He kept to himself during the time lapse the infant was missing, yet when the child was found and brought home, he fused into him through the family seal and went into a deep slumber. Several years later, Kenshin loses control of his temper for the first time, and Hiruga is awakened, causing Kenshin to go on a blind and bloody rampage. Leon restrains his son, and Hiruga has no choice but to separate from Kenshin, though their souls still one. Many years later, Kenshin goes missing, and Hiruga is forced into yet another deep slumber deep within the forest of Vallahad.

Powers/Weapons: He has many abilities, and much more is unknown before he was first summoned, having no memory before then. What is known is that he attacks with claws and fangs, and his dark crimson aura sends tremendous amount of pressure around his body.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Name: Ciaran

Age: Late 20s (appears) 78 (actual)

Race: Human(?)

Description: Tall, scrawny, and pale, with short silver-white hair. His right eye is gray and normal, the right is a dark red-purple color, cat slit, and surrounded by scar tissue. It tends to glow when he's angry. His hands have circular scars in the centers of his palms and mirrored on the back of his hands. He wears a simple brown and blue tunic with black leggings and boots. An intricate and archaic circle is scarred into his back. The sign of the spell sealing his demonic half is in the green crystal he always wears around his neck.

In his demonic appearance, Ciaran has red markings underneath and around his eyes and upper arms, his clothing changes, and hair lengthens.

His personality is detached, blunt, and cold, save for where Aindrea is concerned--when his partner is involved, Ciaran becomes passionate almost to the point of obsession, caring, and concerned, even if he shows it in odd ways.

Bio: When he was young, Ciaran was taken away from his family by a demon-worshiping cult. His memories of his parents and sister were buried under years of pain and anger, and after a time he gave himself over to the demon, entering a contract with the creature, and receiving power in return. His left eye and the scar on his back is the seal of the contract, and a sign that he is no longer wholly human. He was 27 when he entered into the contract, and has not aged since. When the followers of Perun eliminated the demon's coven, Ciaran was the only survivor--a nameless, berserker, half-demon who had killed over half the paladins that had struck the demon's stronghold. Aindrea managed to put a binding spell on him just before Ciaran was able to kill him, connecting them forever. Ever since, Ciaran is Aindrea's constant companion (in more ways than one,) and only when he is threatened will Ciaran use his demonic form.

Powers/Weapons: As a human, Ciaran was inclined toward healing, an ability which he retained when he became half-demon. After his change, he also gained the ability to channel his life force into shields, weapons, and blasts. He also has intricate knowledge of the flow of energy in a person's body, and can redirect or even stop the flow, causing anything from memory loss to death. He does have to be in direct contact for his energy disruption ability to work. In his demonic form, Ciaran gains increased speed, endurance, strength, and the ability to draw energy from the life around him to use as his own. His only weapons are poisoned darts (the substance varying from a paralysis serum to a potent, deadly poison.)

Other: Involved heavily with Aindrea.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Name: Aindrea

Age: Late teens/early 20s (appears) 72 (actual)

Race: Human

Description: Average height, whip-thin, with green eyes and short dark brown hair. He wears the robes of a follower of Perun, as well as the usual armor. His personality is idealistic and solemn, he's also a very adept tactician and fighter.

Bio: Aindrea was born and raised in the mountain enclave, trained in various fighting arts from a young age. His first mission was to eliminate a demon-worshipping cult, incidentally the same one that Ciaran was involved with. It was he that survived the ensuing fight against Ciaran's demonic form, and bound the berserker half-demon to his will. This extended his own life as well, intricately connecting it to that of Ciaran's, and earned him the name 'Aindrea the Demon-tamer.'

Powers/Weapons: Aindrea is, for all intents and purposes, immortal and unaging, though not invulnerable. He does not age because of his connection with Ciaran, who is also immortal and unaging. He's strong and fast, able to wield a large variety of weapons, though being best with sword work. He understands the concepts and theories behind spellwork, but is unable to utilize it himself.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Name: Gabriel Motosuwa
Age: 24
Race: Human
Description:

Upon viewing Fade ElBrunen, one would first notice his strikingly blue eyes, which
seem to cut swaths through darkness or light, piercing to the full extent of the word. Though generally kept shadowed by his wide-brimmed hat, his face is etched with experience, his mouth often twisted into a frown or a look of worry and concern. Long locks of jet-black hair lay beneath the hat, and beneath that, lie two ruby-studded earrings, glinting like his eyes, with or without light. Of above average height, Fade stands at around 6'2", his body lean but not necessarily muscular. Often wearing a crimson tunic to cover his shadowsteel armor, the suit, which covers his torso and legs, is still visible from the waist down. His arms are covered by the tunic, but nothing more, though one may be able to catch a glint of shadowsteel from his right arm, along with a shining birthmark. An arsenal of weapons seems to line his body, ranging from a quartet of whips to a single, charred spear.

Bio (optional):
-- Born
-- Taken to an alternate world to grow up
-- finds the Breath of Gold, leading to the creation of the dreamworld Makkron
-- splits from the Four which found the Breath alongside him
-- realizes his identity
-- moves to Makkronic independence
-- Now

Powers/Weapons:

Heightened Hearing - A skill bred by a lifetime on the run, Fade has tuned his ears to always keep track of those he knows are about him. This does not apply to someone he does not know has arrived in a room, unless he catches sight of them.

Heightened Sight - Also bred by a lifetime on the run, Fade can catch the slightest movement out of the corner of his eye, be it a feather drifting lightly upon the wind or an assassin creeping to strike at his side.

Shadowsteel Affliction - In an effort to cast down the Shadowlord in a beloved city of his, he wrenched a pair of artifacts, known as the Chains of Fallibility, from the ground, taking one with him and leaving one in the square. The chain he took with him fused to his hand due to the backlash of magic, and quickly spread to consume his entire arm. Though this affords him a fair amount of protection, Fade can no longer feel anything within that arm, and searches for a way to reverse the magic.

Motosuwa Rune -
1 - Reaction
2 - Speed
3 - Agility
4 - Time Paradox
5 - Magical Backlash/Energy Syphon

Halyx - A holy dagger which Fade wears upon his left hip, this would appear as an ordinary crystalline dagger until Fade chants the incantation to activate Halyx's powers. Upon the incantation, the dagger would begin to glow and emanate holy power. When applied to a wound in this state, it will slowly heal the flesh about the wound, but cannot assist with anything internal. If another incantation is chanted, the dagger will send a shockwave of holy power in a ring from its base, which will extend for about three feet before dissipating. This should be assumed to have the power of a strike from the dagger itself. The dagger once belonged to his mother's father, a priest in the service of the corrupted Leonardo Cyril Motosuwa, but was given to Fade upon birth.

Nina Darkblade - A jet-black shortsword which Fade wears upon his right hip, this blade contains the soul of a woman named Nina, Fade's mother. She remains silent due to Fade's hope that none should divine the connection between the two and attempt to steal her. The blade, upon contact with flesh, will begin to emanate shadows, which act as a strong acid to eat through the skin to the vulnerable muscle and bone below. It should be marked that should any but Fade touch this blade, Nina will lash out, for though retaining no memory of her past life, Fade insists upon calling her mother, and she has grown fond of him.

Legacy - A gleaming broadsword, with the same rune adorning Fade's right arm upon it, which Fade has tied along his belt in the back. The blade functions as a Spirit Syphon, effectively drawing the spirit from the body and into Fade's. Once there the spirit will be able to vie for control, however they are generally prisoners until Fade should reverse the process. He has done this only once, and is hesitant to do so due to the disastrous consequences of his first attempt. Found in an ancient tomb with the words 'Remember the rune' atop it, Fade treasures this weapon more as a symbol than a tool of war.

Tavis - A knife kept within his right boot, this weapon is relatively plain, but Fade reserves its use for emergencies. The knife will sap magic from someone upon entrance to the body, and it is his main weapon against mages and the like. A gift from his father before he disappeared, Fade knows not the origin of the blade.

Chains of Fallibility - Upon contracting his shadowsteel affliction, Fade went back to retrieve the other Chain of Fallibility, to prevent the fate pressed upon him from being placed upon anyone else. When he arrived in Siloportem, the chain had already been split in two by Dragon, one of the Four that he knew quite well. He took the two halves of the chain and strapped them to his waist, prepared to make use of the chains despite the tragedy which had followed their removal. One of the chains is about six feet long, the other is four, due to the way they were cut.

Styx - A barbed whip which Fade wears upon his right thigh, Styx is one of four whips which Fade possesses and uses. The soul of a young woman named Kittsun resides within this particular whip, superheating the barbs to rend into flesh easily, whereupon it will hook into the muscle tissue and when jerked back, bring along whatever it should find. The soul was placed within the whip through the use of Fade's Soulspear.

Acheron - A thorned whip which Fade wears upon the front of his right thigh, Acheron is the second of Fade's four whips. Equipped with shadowsteel thorns and a leather base, within this whip is the soul of a man named Geranium, providing it with a shockwave effect whenever it is cracked, projecting outwards from the tip. This soul was also placed within the whip through the use of the Soulspear.

Phlegethon - A seemingly ordinary whip, made of a substance known as onyxilk, Phlegethon is the third of Fade's four soul-enhanced whips. It is strapped to the side of his left thigh. Functioning as an ordinary whip, the weapon's true power lies within its effect if Fade murmurs an incantation, whereupon it will adhere to the skin with the consistency of a spider-web, but the relative strength of steel. The soul within this whip belongs to a girl named Mitsuki, whose soul was placed within it via the use of the Soulspear.

Cocytus - This whip also carries the appearance of a normal whip, made of leather, but coated with a strangely volatile substance, ignited by fire to create an explosion. It is the last of Fade's whips, and arguably the most volatile. It is strapped to the front of his left thigh. The soul of a man named Ignus resides within the whip, and it is his fire which Fade calls upon with his incantation to rend the flesh of his enemies upon connection. Ignus's soul was placed within the whip via the Soulspear.

Lion - A throwing dagger which Fade keeps within the sleeve of his right arm. The blade of this dagger is reddish, as though it is eternally stained with blood, and is the carrier of a plague known as Shad's Folly. The plague is not contagious, and in fact, not fatal, but the effects of the plague are many and varied. Recipients would experience a multitude of voices speaking within their head all at once, and contract an immediate fear of the dark. They would begin to hallucinate all around them as angelic beings and feel as though they are always watched. It is perfectly plausible for one to live with the plague.

Lamb - A throwing dagger which Fade keeps within the sleeve of his left arm. The blade of this dagger is a pristine white, kept clean from all sort of disrepair. It is this carrier of a plague known as Fade's Requiem. The plague, like Shad's Folly, is not contagious, and not fatal, but the effects of the plague are many and varied. Recipients would experience a need for silence, as sound will slowly begin to drive them to unbearable agony, and they would lose vision in their eyes, immediately casting them into darkness. They would develop intense hatred for angels and lash out if they felt they were being observed from a distance by any. It is, by itself, perfectly plausible for one to live with the plague.

The Soulspear - The Soulspear is Fade's most powerful and most immoral weapon, transcending mere injury to the body and ascending into the realm of the soul. Enchanted by the Shadowlord while inhabiting Fade's body, this weapon creates an ethereal bond between the soul of the victim and the Soulspear itself, wrenching the soul from the body once the spear is removed. From there, it can be placed into a new body, another object, or released to ascend or descend to wherever the soul would have gone through the process of normal death. The spear is strapped onto his back with easy access should he come across a foe who seemingly can not die.

----It should be noted that Fade has also applied other souls to his satchel, armor, and weapons to make them lighter, at the realization that the load was becoming too heavy to move effectively. Also, the Soulspear, Halyx, and Legacy have been enchanted by a man called Saint to activate only to Fade's touch. All of his weapons can be used against him as weapons, but not with the enchantments they have placed upon them, with the exception of Nina. She is concious of her wielder, and does not take well to strangers.

Wide-brimmed Hat - The wide-brimmed hat Fade wears lacks any magical properties, though does serve to keep his face hidden from the sun and from those he does not wish to seem him.

Crimson Tunic - The crimson tunic Fade wears runs from his waist, up and down to the ends of his arms, stopping at the wrist. It easily disguises the armor beneath, as well as Lion and Lamb, which he keeps in the sleeves.

Shadowsteel Armor - Armor of a pitch-black hue, Fade wears a suit to cover his torso, and legs, extending to his shins. The suit is tied from the back by onyxilk, a light, yet strong fabric, though this fact is concealed by his crimson tunic. Shadowsteel has the advantages of not conducting heat nor electricity, though when exposed to great amounts of concentrated light, it will decay steadily to ash. The markings which cover his suit are Marks of Judgement from a man named Saint, and exist to delay such an inevitability, allowing Fade to traverse during the day without fear.

Ruby-Studded Earrings - The main reason Fade has earned his name as a reputation more than an actual name, these earrings were a gift to him from a man known as Shad, his one-time friend. They allow Fade to literally fade out of his current existence and into his own. A slight blur will surround his form before this does occur, and due to the drain upon his concentration, he rarely uses the earrings in combat.

Nexol smirked as he stood on the roof of a building and looked down on the new arrivals. "New potential Arrian citizens," he mumbled to himself in his usual monotone and emotionless voice, "I must keep my eye on these newcomers...they look like an interesting batch..." He disappeared in a burst of butterflies.

Fifteen miles away, in the heart of the city-state, Leonardo Virgil Motosuwa, founder of Arrius, made his way across the massive lake that sat in the midddle of Arrius via the many bridges that connect the floating shrines. He took a left, and continues on his way, soon arriving at the Dojo. After stopping off there, continied on his way soon to find himself walking into the barraks. There, he came face to face with Brigadier General Bask.

Bask was not a man to be fooled around with. He was born in the forests to the south to the head of the Inu Clan, Barron. He was tall with black fur, long cropped ears, a bushy tail, and had enough muscle to kill a bull with his own bare hands. It made Leon wonder why he hadnt become a circus performer, but he didnt say anything: Racism in Arrius was a very sensitive thing ever since the mini-war between the Elvish Quarter and the Beastblood Quarter. And, besides, Leon had something perssing on his mind, "General Brask, have a need of you assisstance." He leaned in and whispered something in Brask's ear that made the dog-man's eyes light up like a pups. "Yes sir!" Brask exclaimed, "I WILL GET TO IT NOW!" With that, the dog-man hustled into his office and Leon turned around to make his way to the palace...

Moving through the crowds of the Southern gates Velorius glanced around and took his first look at the fabled city of Arrius, perhaps the greatest city this world had ever known. Flanking Velorius on either side were his shadows, two towering powerfully built men wrapped in dark red cloaks and each carrying a sword nearly as tall as they were. As Velorius watched the multitudes of people going about their business a dozen thoughts ran through his mind, the foremost being; Who enchants a city into permenant winter! Dear Spirits I hate the cold, and after three days traveling through a land locked in eternal summer, what were they thinking?

Pulling his cloak thighter Velorius set out into the city, doing his best to avoid running into people in the crowded streets, his shadows following closely. The city seemed prosperous, people walked at ease, children laughed and played, everyone just seemed so carefree.

For six millenia Leonardo Motosuwa had ruled here, and by all accounts it was a just and fair reign. 6000 years of timelessness ((is that a word)) brought on by enchantments, 6000 years of order imposed by one man, 6000 years for stagnation to settle in.

Peace and prosperity tend to make people content and complacent, for people to thrive they needed adversity and crisis, after all discontent is the first step in progress for a man or a nation.

But not here, this city was so white and clean that the smallest speck of dirt would be spoted and wiped away in an instant, and if the stories of Motosuwa and Nexol were true, that stain would be wiped out swiftly and efficently.

Perhaps the norht lands, it would be even colder there but the numerous orc clans could be usefull, though slow witted they were beautifully violent creatures. Well as my teacher would say "Boredom is a problem for the moralist, since at least half the sins of makind are caused by the fear of it" Best find something to entertain all these good people and give them something to truely fear.

Deciding to get to work Velorius set out towards the temple quarter.

A pilgrimage to the temples of Arrius wasn't something that a southern cleric usually undertook alone, but Azira was indeed alone when she rode through the southern gates, her horse's hooves crunching in the snow.

It was certainly a change from the warm Southern lands, and Azira was glad for her thick white cloak and servicable boots as she checked in with the mage-guards at the gates, trading snippets of conversation before bowing and guiding her mount off toward the temple quarter at a brisk pace, deliberately taking back roads to avoid the more crowded streets.

The gods she served had told her to come, indirectly anyway, and she'd obeyed. Perhaps the priests in Arrius would be able to tell her more.

While his final destination was in the Temple Quarter, Velorius chose to take the long way round through the human and Beastblood Quarters, rather than risk running into an Elf mage. While confident in his various spells shrouding him, elves were more atuned to magic, and it wouldn't do for one of them to discern his true being this early on.

As he walked the streets considering potential plans for the future, something caught his eye. Turning Velorius found himself in front of a gunsmith with a variety of pistols and rifles on display. Struck by an idea Velorius approached the owner, a man named Olaf, and began questioning the man on various aspects of firearms, asking about the most accurate, powerfull and the easist to use and maintain. After nearly half an hour Velorius picked out several models of rifle he wanted, then the topic turned to quantity.

"You want how many!! Are you organising an army or something?" yelled Olaf when Velorius mentioned the huge quantity of weapons he wanted.
"No the army's ready I just want to equip it better" replied Velorius calmly.
Still seeing disbelief in the merchants eyes he continued.
"You see, I represent a baron from one of the provinces of Southern Xian, lately we've been having a lot of bother with bandit lords raiding villages and then last winter a tribe of trolls migrated into our lands from the eastern hills. I'm here to procure weapons to arm the city millitias so they can crush the bandits and encourage the trolls to go back home."
"I see, well I understand, afterall Arrius has the best weapons on the contenant, so when do you want the order ready?"
"By the end of teh week"
"WHAT! Are you kidding I'll need damn near every gunsmith in the city to compleate that order in time"
"Are you saying you can't do it, if so I'll find someone who can"
"No, it can be done maybe but it'll be expensive, as I said it'll require a lot of extra labor.."
Smiling Velorius nodded to one of the red cloaked men by his side, bodygaurds the merchant assumed, then turned and spoke.
"Of course, my lord is generous and cares deeply for the safety of his people, money isn't a problem"
At this one of the bodygaurds dropped three large bags onto the counter making a satisfing clink of coins. Looking into the bag Olaf saw more gold than he'd normally make in a year.

Bingo thought Velorius when he saw the greedy glint in the mans eyes, quickly he wove a subtle spell and lodged it in the merchants mind attaching it to that sense of greed. From now on Olaf wouldn't stop to rest eat or anything else untill the order was compleate and the gold his. The man would be little more than a walking zombie by the end of the week but Velorius didn't really care, so long as the job was done.

As Olaf reached for the gold the bodygaurd picked up two of the bags.
"You'll get the rest upon completion of the order, I'll leave you that one as a down paymet for materials and such."
"Very good sir, I swear I'll have your order ready on time"
Smiling Velorius began to turn away when another thought struck him.
"One more thing Olaf do you deal in larger weapons, you know for attackin gbuildings and that?"
"Oh you mean artillery and canons? No I don't stock such things, no demand. If a general wanted that much firepower they'd simply call in mages... but an old friend of mine might Drey'fint he's an Avian((half human half bird species, I'm assuming you won't mind me adding to Arrius' diversity)) who has a workshop in Trinz Square over in the Beastblood Quarter, doesn't normally deal with humans but you tell him Olaf sent you and I'm sure he'll help you out"

Thanking the merchant Velorius turned and headed into the crowd, the merchant already busy planning out how he'd compleate the mysterious nobles order.

(i jsut want to say that was a friggin awesome post)

Nexol reformed in the Elvish quarter of Arrius and looked arund at the sudden change of scenery. "Trees...why do they have to live in trees?" He grumbled to himself as he wondered what brought him to this place. He looked around and then it it him,"Elo'hon...."

Elo'hon was a half-elf with a knack for getting himself in trouble. The old Matriarch of the Elvish families would say that his aptitude for magic was matched only for his aptitude for 'annoying' the authorities. Nexol knew this all to well, being the one who was ofrced to imprision him for his 'liberation' of the tax vaults. But, as strange as it was, Nexol wasnt here to arrest the three-tiem convict. He was here to as him of his advice...

The temple of Perún in Arrius was of a very similar layout to the one Azira had left behind, down to the intricate mosaic of an eagle in flight laid out on the cobblestones, beak pointing to the east. As an acolyte took the reins of her mount to guide it off to the stables, Azira knelt and brushed her hands against the swept stones.

"Sister Azira?" The familiar white robes of a devotee of Perún entered her vision, the designs along the hem blue instead of red as hers were. A priest, then. She stood, dusting snow off her cloak as she did so.

"Greetings, my brother. I take it the messenger-hawk found its way here before I did."

The priest nodded. "We recieved your message some three days past. I take it your journey was uneventful?"

Inwardly, Azira recalled the bandits she'd fought off in a village about four days hard riding southward, and the rogues who'd jumped her on the road. Outwardly, she smiled and assured the priest that her trip had been safe and enlightening. Even for followers of a deity once heralded as a god of war, the average devotee of Perún disliked to hear of a cleric who preferred fighting to healing.

“Will you be staying long?” The main doors to the temple opened easily, and a pair of acolytes whisked away their cloaks and Azira’s traveling pack before the cleric could even register their presence.

“Only as long as I am welcome, I assure you.” A quick adjustment of robe and stole made her presentable, if not particularly willing to hold audience with the head priest. The trouble was saved her, however.

“You are always welcome, sister, however, our High Priest has fallen ill as of late, and I’m afraid he will not be able to personally welcome you to our temple. I will escort you to your room, if that is quite all right?”

“That will be wonderful, thank you. It was a long road coming here.” A bit of rest would be very welcome indeed.

"Ha ha chooo..."

It was late afternoon by the time Velorius reached Trinz Square deep in the Beastblood Quarter. He had taken his time getting there and had visited a number of other human gunsmiths in the hopes of finding one who would be able to supply him with cannons. Unfortunately they all agreed that the only person gauranteed to have such weapons would be the Avain Drey'fint.

As he hurried through the slush filled streets of the winter city, again cursing the idea of eternal winter, he began sneezing. Each sneezing fit serving as a reminder of why he had wanted to stay on the outskirts of the district. It wasn't teh cold that caused him to sneeze he was, he could fight any simple disease by arogant force of will alone. But dispite his vast knowledge and mastery of magic there was nothing he could do about his allergies.

"Ha ha chooo..."

It wasn't that he hated all Beastbloods just those blasted Nekos who were a close enough relation to teh cats of his world to agrivate his sinuses.

Finally spotting the store he wanted Velorius hurried over and spoke to the Avian at the counter. He was tall, had brown and white plumage and owl like eyes. Wanting to get out of this area as quick as possible Velorius got straight to the point.
"I understand you may be able to sell me some cannons?"
"Ah.. you must be that southern noble who has Olaf in a fit?"
Velorius was momentarily speechless, how could this merchant know that?
"Don't look so surprised, news like that travels fast, especially since Olaf has contacted damn near every gunsmith in the city outsourcing the work, myself included, though he did mention you may be paying me a visit. Things in the south must be a lot worse than we heard for you to need this arsenal?"
"Yes, my lord has done his best to try and keep the news to a minimum, if the full scale of the trouble got out it would hinder trade and make our nation appear weak to our neighbours."
"Um... Well, doesn't much matter to me so long as you can pay. So how many do you want?"

Velorius paused a moment, the whole cannon idea had only come to him recently, and he hadn't considered quantity, just their usefullness. He didn't even know how powerfull they were. Taking a quick glance around to ensure no one was watching him, Velorius struck out and caught Drey'fint by the neck adn then brought up his other hand and placed his thumb against the Avians forehead. A second later Velorius was in the merchants mind routing around for the information he needed.

Velorius released Drey'fint who blinked a few times before shacking his head and turning to Velorius.
"Sorry did you say something?"
"Just that I would like a total of 24.. yes that should be enough"
"24... that many will take me about a month or so?"
"A month? I would like them a lot sooner"
"Sorry but Olaf already has most of the other gunsmiths working for him, even if he didn't there are only a handfull of us in the city with any experience. A month is the best I can do."

From burrowing around in teh Avians mind Velorius knew the man was probably right. He had no choice but to wait. Velorius contemplate placing the same compulsion spell on Drey'fint as he had Olaf but realised the Avian would work himself to death before the order was compleate.

"Very well then one month from now have the cannons ready to leave from the southern gates my men will take delivery"
Velorius nodded to the red cloaked man to his left, who placed a large bag of gold onto the bench by the merchant.
"A down payment. Oh and as I mentioned my lord is trying to keep this trouble in the south as quite as possible."
"understood I'll be discreet"
Just to be sure Velorius wove a spell and placed it in the Avians mind compelling him to tell only those who needed to be told to finish the order on time. The bandit story would work for the rifles but people would wonder why so many cannons were needed, the fewer who knew the better.

Finishing his business, Velorius was eager to get away from the Bestblood quarter and reach his final destination.

"Ha ha chooo..." Damn Nekos!

Nexol stepped up to a little hut on the shore of the Shoren river and then drew his pearl white katana, "this is his place...i hope he doent try to kill me for taking him in..." He lightly knocked on the door, "This is Nexol. By order of the Royal Family, i order anyone inside to open the door."

The man waited for a few minutes, and he was about to knock the door in when he heard the lock click and the door opened. Instinctivly, Nexol stepped back, and the head of a young boy, "PAH! Né'zko!? Emmil talish sho'vaan? Elo'hon na! Elo'hon na!"

Nexol bowed lightly and erplied, "No, I am nto here to arrest you again. I need you to do something for me. Tthere is a man who lives in the Human quarter by the name of Zenshi. He has a certain trinket that belonged to our Emperor's Mother, and His Most Holiness wants it back."

Elo'hon frowned and replied in Elvish, "Zen'shi na miltiui vrai shi kahl. Nimil tu wo naka mil."

"What do you mean? Surely a human barbarian cant be *THAT* bad?" Nexol smirked before adding in Arrian, "O és tu non-baldré? (Or are you a coward?)"

Elo'hon growls and then humoured Nexol by speaking in his native tongue, "Vho dicti vhat égo és non-baldré? Égo non-vidé al purpóse indalesceré abur. In vhat maniér égo humilio abur so vhat abur transe ex citudad éxcede presenté al trinket? (Who said that I'm a coward? I just dont see any reason to kill him. How about i just humiliate him so that he leaves the city after returning the trinket?)"

"Why do you always have to be difficult? Just kill him. He is a wanted criminal, and i dont have all day!" As Nexol said that, a crow landed on his shoulder and began to whisper soemthign in his ear. Nexol shushed the bird before saying to Elo'hon, "Just do it and i will see that you are properly paid." Nexol turned and walked off with the bird on his shoulder. He stopped after distiancing himself from any eavesdroppers befroe finally sayign to the crow, "And, you are sure Olaf is telling you the truth?"

The crow tilted its head lightly and then finally said in its scratchy voice, "Ita wéro, Prætor Nexol. (Yes indeed, Lord Nexol.)" Then, in a flurry of wing flaps, the bird was off in the air again, headed most likely for its nest in the Beastblood Quarter, leaving Nexol to think about the day, "I will have to watch this newcomer then..." His eyes flashed red and he melted into the ground...
