Welcome to the Soquilipedia! This thread has all kinds of information about soquilis compiled by soquili owners and articles found on the net pertaining to the Cherokee way of life. If you want to write or submit an article then please consult the librarian. Please use a spelling/grammer checker before submitting so the writing is legible.

What is the story behind the Soquilipedia?
-A team of elders and Kawani people decided to write everything about their way of life and their beloved soquilis. In the future this documentation was discovered by archaeologists who decided to publish the material into a series of books called the 'Soquilipedias'. Imagine that you are a member of the Kawani tribe back in the 1800s who wants to document the way of life of your people. Make sure your articles relate to the way of life of Native people but bring in some fantasy elements of the soquili into it. This book will help bring the roleplay to life in a more realistic way. ^^

The croup (rump) lies between the loin and the tail. When one is looking from the side or back, it is the highest point of the hindquarters.

The gaskin is the region between the stifle and the hock.

GOING TO WATER
The waters of the river (“Long Man”) were always believed to be sacred to the Cherokee and believe that the water is a sacred messenger and commonly used for purification and other ceremonies. There is two forms of “Going to Water,” and “Taking Them to Water.” In “Going to Water,” the Cherokee wade out into the waters of a clean running creek or river, face the east of rising sun, and dip themselves seven times in the water while reciting prayers. This was done every morning, summer or winter, regardless of the weather. The other form was called “Taking them to Water.” This way the Cherokee simply dipped up the water by hand and spread it over the person’s head and body. The rivers, streams or any other natural body of moving water, is considered a sacred sight, and the tradition of going to water still exists today.

The hock is the joint between the gaskin and the cannon bone, in the rear leg. The bony protuberance at the back of the hock is called the point of hock.

KALONA DEMON
Among the most feared of the Cherokee entities was the Raven Mocker , or kalanu ahyeli-ski/kalona. The Raven Mocker robs dying people of their lives, and the mocker is said to look old and withered because of all the lives it has taken.

The Raven Mocker swoops down from the sky, arms outstretched, leaving a trail of sparks behind. The noise of its passing is a sound that sends trembles through the strongest heart. The sound presages the arrival at the homes of those who are sick or dying.

Sometimes a medicine man would be waiting outside the home to try to drive away the Raven Mocker. But the medicine must be strong, or else the Raven Mockers get inside the room where the ailing person is by turning invisible. Then they frighten the sick person until the victim passes away.

The Raven Mocker then eats the heart of the victim. This act will add the number of days or years they have stolen from the victim to the length of their own lives, keeping them refreshed so they can commit more evil. Since the Raven Mocker is invisible, and leaves no scar when it takes the heart, it is difficult to detect. If someone with strong medicine sees the evil spirit, the Raven Mocker will die within seven days.

WITHERS [Anatomy]
The withers is the prominent ridge where the neck and the back join. At the withers, powerful muscles of the neck and shoulders attach to the elongated spines of the second to sixth thoracic vertebrae. The height of a horse is measured vertically from the withers to the ground, because the withers is the horse's highest constant point.
