I'm sure there are many topics out there that discus TLK, like who you favorite character is, why you like the movie, and which movie is the best, but there are things in TLK that go much deeper, and I think deserve a look at. Character relationships, background history, religious ties, Shakespearian ties and whatnot. This movie isn't my favorite just because of cute like Simba, but because of the real complex issues at play here. Think about it, A young boy, or cub if you will, has his father torn away from him. Killed right before his eyes. Does Simba really understand what that means. Does he comprehend the fact that he isn't coming back? And to be blamed for his death. What kind of effect would that have at someone his age? Did Disney really portray reality given the situation?
That's only one subject of interest. I was just giving an example. What I'd really like to start off with though is the relationship with Scar and Mufasa. It's clear that there is contention and hate from Scar. There is much concern from Mufasa. But what shaped them both to be what they are now? Brothers aren't born to hate each other, so what was it that caused such anger? I personally think it started in their youth. Before, I'm almost sure they were best of friends. One looking out for the other. For something to get in between such a friendship, something big must have happened. What is that? If you have any thoughts, speak freely. I would hope that anyone who posts here really wants to talk about it, and not just post a 4 word sentence. I'm hoping for some deep discussion here. Have fun, and be yourself here. ^_^

The Lion King is kind of like Hamlet I suppose.
Now, what are we supposed to talk about? Besides what we think happened in the 'never before seen' clips of the Lion King?

The Lion King is a lightened up version of Shakespeare's Hamlet. Meaning, it lacks all the adult content and is therefore very watered down. I don't see how this is an intelligent discussion. This is a kid's movie and a poor imitation of a Shakespearean classic. Why is this in here?

i believe you are right, this is no more than a wattered down verssion of Hamlet, BUT at the same time, this is really portraying truths of reality into youg peoples minds, and most dont see it.......as was mentiones, Mufasa and Scar are brothers, who obviously had something in the past soooo huge, it drove them to hatred.....i believe it is the simpe fact of the placement of age...mufasa became king because he was born first, and this made Scar jealos, and drove him to deception, and betrayal, so he assumed the throne, in the end the right thing was done, instilling into young minds that good will prevail, if you do what you are supposed to....

But is Mufasa given the right to be king simply because he was born first? Is this not enforcing the belief of a divine right to rule? Maybe if Scar didn't feel so cheated of his role because of birthright he wouldn't have become the "bad guy" in the movie.
