I just wanted to start a discussion on the topic of guys paying for everything. Since prom in coming up my friends have been discussing whether they are going or not and most of my friends who are girls said they aren't going because either nobody asked them or the guy wouldn't pay. I was talking to other friends (guys) and they were all talking about how they had to pay for everything (in prom). So I wanted to know what you thought of the whole guys paying thing. Should they have to pay or should girls fork up some of the cash?

Well if the girls believe in equal rights, then they should ante up.

man i don't need and invitation to go to my own ******** prom.. tell your friends to snap out of it.
besides that, guys should pay the movie tickets(whatever) 5 out of 11 times at least. or more.
for me i rather pay it my self every time but him paying its (hate to say it) a way of knowing that he doesn't care how much he has to pay or do to be with you. if that makes any sence

I think it's silly for guys to pay all the time, especially for prom. I think that girl should pay for her own large expenses but that the guy should pay for her small expenses. And buy her a corsage. 'Cause that's just the nice thing to do. Outside of proms, I think that when you've only just gone out with the guy a couple of times you should pay for it so he can't say "I paid for your meal, sex me up." After that, it should only be if the guy wants to treat you or something. (And guys, you want to treat her, trust me.)

I think it could go both ways! Guys paying shows how much they are willing to sacrifice to be with you, but I also think it would be nice if the girls threw in a bit, although, we do pay for our dresses, etc. That is sorta helping, but I don't really care either way! lol

It is nice when a guy pays for you, but paying for your prom? that sounds a bit over the top... paying for a meal or movie tickets every now and then is nice but i dont think it should be expected...

I say they should pay sometimes. Because they do end up having their own expensnes and so on. Beside I don't want to make them think that I'm poor and can't take care of myself! Since I think some guys like to know a girl can take care of herself.

I think it's stupid for women to think men should pay for everything. And making a guy pay for a prom dress... that's just plain stupid. Unless he plans on wearing it, of course. I prefer splitting things up since I feel awkward if people pay for my stuff unless I've known them for a long time. Now maybe if a guy asked me out I wouldn't completely object to him paying for the first date, but at the same time if I were to ask a guy out I wouldn't mind paying for the first date, either.
In the end, though, I'd prefer splitting the cost or if he pays for something one time I'll pay for something the next. That way it evens out eventually.

If I wanna go on a date and my man is poor, we're still going. We pretty much take turns and if he ends up feeling bad for me paying then he says he owes me money. It works out fine.

From the perspective of a chick who's never been out with a guy, but -has- been out with a chick... Well, it's a bit more complicated. I never got the whole 'I'll pay for you thing'. I like to pay for her if I've got the money, 'cause it shows I care and shizzle. But if I haven't got enough money to pay for myself and her (I'm saving for about £2.5k - it's gonna be a few decades? xD In any case, I limit myself to what I put in my purse) then then I'll just pay for myself. And if she wants to, she'll pay for me. It's never really been a problem. I don't think it means anything. It's a nice guesture (even though I can't spell?) but it should never be expected. If I went out with a guy, I'd probably do the same.
Well that's my input. -scurries away-
