Recently in class, we had a discussion about the atomic bombing of Japan.
Was it justified? I said no, but maybe I couldn't help but be a little biased. sweatdrop
Were there lies and propaganda involved? yes, certainly
Was it suitable revenge for Pearl Harbor?
Was it okay to kill thousands of civilians for war?
Would it have been okay if it was Russia that dropped the bomb?
Would it have been okay if the same thing happened to the U.S. because it was war?
Was the war already won ANYWAY?
....................................
people, talk. I really want opinions on this. neutral

I think its never justified to kill so many people and do such a thing that will cause problems over so many years cause of radiation cause of a stupid war or money or, even for what they did it, peace. its completely stupid.

The war was no where near over when we dropped the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We would've had to sacrifice maybe hundreds of thousands of troops to even make Japan think about coming to the negotiation table. They were very stubborn, thanks to Bushido. They figured they'd rather die an honorable death than to surrender.
I'm not saying it was justified, but, we did have our reasons.

Something had to happen. The A-Bomb was over kill though. Something smaller, less devastating would have done it

domokun The use of nuclear weapons is never justified for not only does it completely desolate a area of all life, it also permanently stains the area with radiation domokun which effectively gets spread about 2-3 times more then the blast radius of bomb domokun nothing can justify that

I believe they dropped two. The first was enough to end the war and their was a battle on that. They shouldn't of dropped the second one but the first stopped a lot of lives to be lost. BUt it was a bit over kill though.

I love Japan. On the other hand, you have the cool atom bomb. We dropped the bomb and BOOM! War over. I think it was justified.

I agree! Though personally, I really dislike the american government....watch Zeitgeist...It shows a lot of things that most americans find really disturbing. This country is slowly rebelling against itself...
