AZUMANGA DAIOH! Best time you'll ever have watching it. Especially with a friend. Stay away from Inuyasha. Horrible.

Also, Deathnote will get you hooked as hell.

Have you tried Dai-Guard? It's pretty funny, with action to boot. It's about office workers from the P.R. Division of 21st Century Security piloting the company's cheaply built giant robot "sales gimmick" to defeat extra-dimensional monsters called heterodynes. Comedy ensues throughout.

i could have gone on for hours but there all worth seeing for many different reasons, even the dark animes have some good moment and funny sides, as for the romance do not be detered because they may seem girly because god damn them so funny in parts.
