The best birthday present EVER (with strings attatched)
Meet Meowbox. She was born March 16th and I brought her home April 28th- on my birthday. She is a mutt kitten, and I love her to death. She is a great shoulder kitty, and likes to hang around my desk when I am on Gaia and try to help me type, pouncing at the keyboard. She likes to cuddle when she sleeps...even if you don't want to x3

Meowbox is pretty hyperactive right now, and likes to play rough. I bat her around like a toy, and she loves it. She will sit in my living room and watch the ceiling fan and let herself get dizzy and fall over, and likes to watch TV.

Unfortunately, she has Feline Herpes. Feline Herpes resides in the eye, and in parts of the respiratory system of cats. There are some that can get exposed and never catch it, and there are some that have it from birth, like Meowbox- she got it from her mother. This is transfered within active body fluids, excluding urine. They produce snot, and their eyes secrete a gooey yellow-to-brown substance that can irritate the cornea of the eye. It makes it's home in the nostrils, too, the irritation causes nasal mucus to form.

It is treatable, but not curable. I am crossing my fingers that she will not have that many problems as an adult cat because this virus, if not controlled, it can lead to blindness or serious respiratory illness, like sinusitis, upper respiratory infections and those can lead to pneumonia.

There is very little information on the 'net about this, but, according to my vet, it is very common. When cats are put on a lysine treatment (Ensyl F) as kittens, they have better odds at beating Feline Herpes into remission.

There are some up sides, even though she is sick. Most cats who have this virus (when controlled) are more likely to not have complications. Plus, Feline Herpes is species-specific, so this cannot be transfered to dogs, people or any other kind of animal.

I don't know how I got this far without this sweet little thing in my life, and I know we have many wonderful years ahead of us heart
