"Hurry Princess, the court meeting is about to start." Nosiel called after me. I grunted standing up to my feet.
"Shh... Nosiel, I`m coming." I silenced him, he was irritating me, but, that was nothing short of how I`ve been since the start of the new year.
I recall my father, a gentle, caring man, asked me why I was so unhappy, but, I had seen my step-mother out of the corner of my eye, and told him it was nothing.
His response was:
"I know you better, princess Alyce, we`ll talk later." He always whispered to me before grazing past me to join my step-mother.
Yes, my birth mother had been killed by a guard who had betrayed us... along with the family pet, a rather... tame black panther.
I gave a grunt as Nosiel opened the doors, and I proceeded into the extravagent room. It was bright in the colors of gold and white, and as always I contrasted against the room, seeing as I dress in black, alone.
My father motioned for me to sit at his right hand, which was something I could say more then he asked of my "mother".
However, my thoughts did not remain on the bitter woman just to the right of my father, but, the large wooden crate that sat in the middle of the floor.
It was amusing, it took exactly six guards to keep the crate from scattering across the marble floor.
"Why I have called the court royals to come, is to witness the annoiting of a panther guardian to my daughter." My father, King Nrahel announced, over the noise, which was the sound of claws against wood, and wood scratching up the marble floor.
I smirked lightly, it was now I remember what the "pet" my mother had was called. It didn`t do a fine job of guarding her, I mused.
"Open the crate, and let the beast out." The king bellowed, and in unison, the six guards picked up their flate pieces of metal and got to work.
With each nail taken out, the more restless the animal seemed to become. I waited silently to see the beautiful creature stock, pounce, or trample out of its comfinements.
The men seemed to grow nervous, I could see it in their eyes, however, what happened next, completely caught me off guard.
The lid of the crate fell off, more like flew, and hit the floor. I felt a heavy weight take me down from the chair and a pair of claws, accidently pierce my skin.
When time finally caught up to me, I was staring, obviously frightened, into the pair of jade green eyes of the panther, who bared his teeth at me.
Without thinking, I reached out to stroke his head, only to pull it back after a light n**, strong enough to pierce the skin. As I observed tthe blood for a second, the panther lept over me, and bounded into the hallway, from the door that had been left open.
I was quick to get up and bound out. I didn`t know what I was doing, or why I was doing it, but, I felt compelled to follow after my new guardian.
I found him, actually in my room, lounging on my bed, I gave a silent sigh of relief as I entered the room, and closed the doors behind me.
This raised the pather`s attention to me, and he gave a light growl crossed with a purr, warning me, if I had any ill-will intentioned to him, he wasn`t going to just stand around and take it.
"Its okay... I won`t hurt you." I cooed lightly slowly making my way to the side. Almost as if understanding me, he laid down his head, and allowed me to kneel beside him on the floor.
I reached out gently, taking a moment to glance at his eyes for a hostal look before I gently smoothed out his fur with the warm flesh of my hand.
Suprizingly, he purred happily.
