This is my daughter
She is five years old
Little brown eyes
Filled with wonder and light
My baby doll
I love her so
I pull her into my arms and
Cradle her tight
Chase away all her nightmares
Fight the monsters under the bed
My baby girl
I love her so
I want to take away the things
That make her sad
I want to hide away the things
That make her cry
She is my little darling
My baby girl
And I love her so
With her little arms
She reaches out to me
Hugs me tight
And tells me
“I love you, Mama.”
She tells me that I am her hero
That she wants to be like me
And I smile
And want to cry because
I’m not perfect but
She makes me feel like I am
She is my baby girl
And I am supposed to protect her
Because I am her mommy
But how could I fight
Something that ate her away from the inside
How could I have protected her from
The things that made her sick
My baby girl
Who braved the surgeries
The therapies
The shots and tests and medicines
My little angel
This is my daughter
She is five-years-old
With little brown eyes
Filled with wonder and light
That will never open again
