The Centaur and The Dragon
There was once a young centaur who loved music, and every night he would play for his herd. They would gather around the fire and all of them would clap and dance while the young centaur played. His violin made such a beautiful sound, that even the flowers would grow just to hear him play. One stormy night the herd was attacked, and the young centaur was seperated from them. The herd searched for him, but when they found nothing, they thought he had been taken away by the giant cats who attacked them, and so, heavy hearted and moarning they moved on. The young centaur too was searching for them, but he never found them, and he too became sad. Without the heart to play his violin lay unused in it's wooden case as he wandered aimlessly looking for someone... anyone, who could be his friend. One day he stopped at a lake to get a drink. He looked up and saw that there was a shimmering cave and when he looked to the sky it looked like rain and so he hurried inside to keep from getting wet. "What is a centaur doing in my cave?" came a voice from the dark, and the young centaur jumped and spun around to see a dragon laying at the back of he cave. Her body was pure white, and she had ice blue eyes, with gold spiked down her back and a gold tipped tail. The centaur bowed low, fearing the dragon and said "please great dragon, do not eat me, I merely came to escape the on comming storm, I will leave if I am unwelcome." The dragon opened her mouth, about to shout at him to get out, but stopped when her eyes fell upon the wooden case. "What is that?" she asked. The centaur quickly pulled the violin out of the case and showed it to her "it is my instrament, it's all I have, but might I offer it as payment for letting me stay." The dragon was silent, her ears lowered a bit before she shook her head "no, what use does a dragon with no hands have for a violin? As payment I want you to play, if I find your music worthy you can stay, but if not I will chase you out! And the next time we meet I'll eat you in one bite!" The centaur quickly tuned his violin before he closed his eyes. His mind wandered back to happier times and he lifted his violin and began to play. The sweet music was magic to the dragon's ears, and she relaxed as she listened to the beautiful sound. When he finished playing he looked to her. She stood up and he began shaking like a leaf as she approached, ready to run if he had to. He closed his eyes as she crained her neck forward, but he didn't feel sharp fangs, but smooth scales as she rubbed her face against his. "That was the most beautiful sound I have ever heard, and it brought back good memories before I lost my family," she said. This made the young centaur's ears pirk and he smiled sympatheticly as he petted her head "I know how that feels, I was seperated from my herd, I have been alone for a very long time," he said softly. The dragon looked at him and smiled a bit "then perhaps we can keep eachother company, and nither of us will be alone." The young centaur was happy to hear this, and from that day on they were friends.
