Big Brother

Big Brother

Chapter 1, Pt. 1

At the age of six, I learned just how much my brother loved me. Because at the age of six, Brother, who had not spoken to me for three days after I smashed a rodent, killed a man.

Our house sat on top of a hill that overlooked the town below. It was a small hill, but enough to distinguish us from the rest of Cringement. The house we lived in was two stories, the top floor belonging to me and me alone. Though the five rooms upstairs served as my playground, I easily got bored, and just as easily broke The Rule. The day I turned six, Brother made the rule, which was really two; never go into town alone, and always, always stay in sight.
I'd seen the orchard in passin many times, and now while my brother slept, took the path that lead to it. The orchard sat at he bottom of our hill, a little ways out from the property. And as I weaved my way in and out of peaches, I found it hard to keep the house in sight. The stick I held was long and knobby, and I scraped it across the trunks of trees as I passed. My dress ruffed in the autumn breeze; it was the one Brother had bought me in town. It was violet, and Bubby said it brought out my eyes, which were grey.I was debating tasting one of the many peaches that hung from the trees, when darkness fell upon me, and my body screamed in pain. "Bubby...Bubby..."

I remember waking to the sound of mournful crickets, their song tugging at my six-year-old heart. Darkness had fallen, and only in the sliver of light from the moon, did I see a first. Tears, scarlet tears ran down Big Brother's face. " Bubby...Bubby, you're bleeding..."

No one in the town of Cringement cared much about the slaughtering of Steve Chapettakis. Steve, who's only obbies involved a bottle of liquor, and a shot gun. The town did however recieve the news of 'That lil' o' girl that leevez up dare heel dun got rut'd on', as saddening news. And when Brother and I went to town for our monthly groceries, Mr. Paullup; who worked behind the counter at Guppy's handed me a stick of licorice with sad brown eyes. From that day on, I loathed pitty.

"[b:c8bc61b7c5]I was a heavy heart to carry. My beloved was weighed down; my arms around his neck, my fingers laced a crown. I was a heavy heart to carry, my feet dragged across the ground, and he took me to the river, where he slowly let me drown...

My love has concrete feet, my love's an iron bar, wrapped around your ankles over the waterfall....I'm so Heavy...[/b:c8bc61b7c5]"
