...yesterday at Costco. It was like this:
I went to Costco with my mom, blah blah blah. We went to the pharmacy. There were two chairs in front of it, so she told me to go ahead and sit down while she got the stuff. So I did. There was a middle-aged man sitting in one of those chairs already, and as I sat down beside him, he looked me up and down. Then (in a toally non-subtle way) he moved his chair an inch or two away from me. I gave him a questioning glance, but he pointedly looked away from me.
He was obviously there with his mom, because he then took out his cellphone and said things like "Mommy, smile!" before taking her picture. O.o sweatdrop
Anyway, his mom finished with her business and came over to him. He got up so that she could sit as well. She looked at me in the same way that her son did (guess that's where he got it from) and (in an even more non-subtle way than her son) moved further away from me, even turning to face her son.
Oh, and this might be a good time to incude that yes, I am African-American, and they were white.
I really don't know what to make of this. I don't. Anyone wanna give me their input?
P.S. Another thing, with that same guy. So as we were sitting there, he making an obvious effort to avoid looking at me, this (also African-American) father walked by, his little daugther trailing behind him. I smiled at them as they passed by. The girl smiled back at me-so cute! heart -but when she looked at the guy next to me, he frowned and looked away. Seriously, what's his problem? sad
