Lets talk about this guy:
This is, of course, my Drunken Jester avatar... What's his story??
Jester's family were high class and very rich. He had a mother, a father, and several siblings. He was somewhere in the middle of all of them. He had also had his own personal Nanny when he was younger.
"Be all and everything that you want to be. Limiting yourself will never make you happy." Those were the last words his Nanny had said to him before they had fired her for some silly reasons. Stealing or loose morals or something.
He took those words to heart. As he grew he tried anything and everything that it took his fancy to do. He wasn't very good at much of it but that didn't bother him.
As he reached adulthood hid family found most of his hobbies to be shameful. He was reckless and uninhibited. And as he took to doing more outrageous things like cross dressing his family was so outraged they threw him out.
After his family threw him out he stole a pile of gold from the vault and made his way to the port city of Tribula. In Tribula he found his ways to such pleasures as gambling and drinking. Both very expensive hobbies. His money quickly dwindled and he was left homeless and penniless. After several days of this he ran across a conniving man who looked well off.
This man bought Jester a drink and have him a proposition. They would play a game of poker, and if he lost then they would trade lives and part ways.
Of course this seemed odd to Jester, but he thought that surely his life couldn't be less unfortunate than this man's. So he accepted the deal in hopes of being the well dressed and confident man before him.
The man stacked the deck against himself and purposefully lost. The man acted out his part well and Jester suspected nothing.... until they got to his "employer".
The only person this man had to answer to was Claude, the mayor of Tribula. As it turned out the man who had tricked Jester had been a criminal indentured to the city for crimes unknown. He earned money in various ways, and all the money he earned he had to give to the mayor. He had to do this for a certain number of years or... was it a certain amount of gold? In years to come Jester couldn't remember which, and neither the man or Claude had told him the certain amounts.
And so the man had taken his life and - as far as Jester knew - went to try his lot with Jester's family. And Jester was stuck, perhaps indefinitely, working off a debt that wasn't his to a mayor he was to later learn was a crooked politician.
Claude said he didn't care what Jester did to earn the money, the last man gambled to earn his money, but suggested that Jester try something more along the lines of his skill level.
And so the "Jester" was born. He painted his face and put on a costume and danced in the street. He was an oddity to the city, if not talented and so he earned money.
As time went by he learned to tolerate life and he endeared himself to the citizens who would often buy him a drink or a bottle of wine. And in particular there was a young girl named Nicolette who loved him very much. Whenever he met her on the streets when she was little he would tell her adventure stories and do tricks and sing songs. She thought he was wonderful. She was also the Mayor's daughter.
When Jester found this out he shunned her as much as he could and ignored her for the most part.
Present Day:
Jester finds himself in much the same way as always. A bit of a drunk and a much loved figure of the city that he's well trapped in. Nicolette still comes by frequently, and apparently is still very much in love with him even now that she's into her teenage years.
Claude refuses to claim that Jester has even made a dent in his debt, but his daughter knows quite a lot and has been very busy....
