Pinky Promises
Childhood Memories
It was one of those things that little Lily Terrae was used to making. Promising her dad not to talk to any of the other elven boys, promising her mother to be careful when she went out of the cottage...
Yet some how, this one was a bit different.
"Promise me you'll think of me when I disappear, Lils?"
Lily flopped over to stare at Ray, her eyebrows raised and bright amber eyes curious. Ray continued to stare at the clouds. It was one of those few lazy days between them, with Jinx having to stay at her home to study.
"Well, of course Ray! As long as you promise me we'll always stay together." Lily added in with a toothy grin, tucking her arms below her head. Ray flopped over to stare at Lily, his own eyebrows raised in childish amusement.
"Then what's the point of promising to me, silly Lily?" He teased, ruffling Lily's hair. Lily giggled and batted the small boy's hand away, a small smile on her face.
"Just promise, Ray-ray!" She insisted, trying to look serious but busting into another fit of giggles when Ray wiggled his eyebrows the way Jinx's grandfather would do.
"Fiiiiine. Let's pinky promise, then! To seal the deal!" Ray sat up and declared this by waving a finger in the air, trying to look like the heroic older kid that he knew. He looked down at Lily expectantly, hoping to see his best friend in awe; instead she stared back up at him, looking ready to burst out laughing.
So she did. It wasn't too long before Ray was back on the ground in a fit of laughter too. After the moment ended, the two turned to face each other with identical grins.
"Pinky Promise?" Ray asked, holding out his small pinky to Lily. Lily's grin turned wider and she hooked her own pinky through his in a tight squeeze.
"Pinky Promise."
