Soaked in Blood
[Work in Progress]

The alarm clock went off as usual at 7AM and as usual I grabbed it and chucked it across the room.

"Ugh..." I groaned, my head throbbing as I rolled around in bed. I had to open and close my eyes several times before the room finally came into focus. From the feeling of intense pounding and nausea, I had a hangover.

Sliding my feet off the side of the bed I got up to get something to eat. Heading towards the fridge in my tiny one room apartment I slowly swung the door open, leaning on it for support as I gazed inside. Just enough milk for a bowl of cereal.

Using the last of the milk I sat down to a big bowl of fruit loops which I quickly devoured. Burping in satisfaction I stood up and went to clean the bowl in the sink. At this point is when I came to realize something was wrong. I was still hungry. Usually when I eat a bowl of cereal, that whole hunger thing stops bugging me.

Looking down at my stomach I questioned if I was getting fat. However, I found quite the opposite had occurred. It looked as if I had lost quite a few pounds. Staring oddly for a moment I realized I could see my ribcage, I hadn't been able to see my Ribcage since I was in my twenties.

Rushing over to the corner of the apartment I grabbed the old weight scale I had from under my bed. The digital numbers flashed and when 0's appeared I stood on top of it. "180?" I said to myself in disbelief, I hadn't been 180 pounds since I was in high school. Over night I had lost nearly 60 pounds. This is when my stomach reminded me I was still hungry. "Jesus maybe I have a tape worm or something..." again speaking to myself as I went to grab a bag of Doritos out of the cupboard next to the fridge. Stuffing a few in my mouth it felt a little too early for Doritos snacking but hey I was hungry, or the tape worm was, wasn't sure actually.

Turning on the flat screen I started watching the news as par my usual routine. Nothing interesting, also par the usual routine. Before realizing it, I had eaten the entire large bag of Doritos without thinking. "Jeez I must have really been hungry... or the tape worm was..." I giggled I little, I don't know why I could joke about something like this, especially when my health was at risk, but I have a weird sense of humor.

Showering and getting dressed for work, I grabbed my phone and my keys and headed for work.

As I stepped outside it was still relatively dark. It was a nice cool morning, and as I swung up to my crappy old Toyota, which clearly hadn't been washed in a very long time. As I slammed into the seat my stomach wrenched again. "I am still hungry? Jesus maybe I should call the doctor." I thought, and as I did my stomach wrenched again, this one was painful, very painful. "Ok I am definitely calling in for work..."

Calling my boss I was quickly reprimanded with a stream of complaints about how lazy I was. She wants me, I thought and giggled as I looked up the hospital on my GPS and drove rather quickly.

When I arrived I stepped out of the car clenching my stomach as I suddenly felt the need to vomit. Falling to my knees I hurled, and I hurled, and I hurled. Over and over into the gutter. Trying to catch my breath after the vomiting had stopped I gasped for air giggling "Must have been a great night last night." I muttered shuddering a little.

That was when I noticed something strange. Looking down at the pool of vomit, I realized something. It was chewed up fruit loops and Doritos, it hadn't been digested at all, in fact, the disgusting green acid that usually came up wasn't even there, and I also didn't have that burning sensation in my throat that comes after vomiting.

Incredibly confused I wobbled to my feet and wiped off my mouth as I headed inside. My stomach felt better but I was still hungry, and the pain of hunger was increasing. The female clerk on the other side of the window gave me that "Oh great, another drunk." look and it annoyed me a little.

"Hello sir how can I help you?" she said in a clearly unexcited voice.
"Hi, I uhm... I need to see a doctor immediately."
"What seems to be the problem sir?" she asked in the same dull tone.
It was at that moment that a crushing pain hit every bone in my body.
"Nghh..." I belched out as blood spewed forth from my mouth and all over the counter and floor.
"Oh my god!" the clerk said jumping to her feet "Call the doctor immediately!" she screamed as I fell to my knees, my vision blurred and my senses dulled, the sound around me seemed very far away, and as I was lifted onto the gurney I passed out.

The next few days were a blur. I went in and out of sleep and while I slept, I could hear the voices of the doctors talking around me, but also the screaming of another patient, where was I?

"We've tried and tried again to get a blood sample but nothing is coming out!"
"He may not have any blood in his veins, but he sure seems to be vomiting a whole lot of it. Just take a sample from there."
"Yes sir..."

"Well what did the blood tests say?"
"Nothing, there is no abnormalities in the blood, it all belongs to him though... but I wonder..."
"Why he hasn't died yet?"
"Yeah... from the looks of it he has vomited more blood than the human body can hold..."
"As if..." The voices faded and darkness took me once more.

Consciousness reclaimed me, but I was unable to see. However I once again could hear the voices.

"Did you find them?"
"Yeah... yeah we did..."
"Well?"
"They were just piles of flesh when we found them, the psycho out there doing this still hasn't been found..."
"What? Do they have any suspects?"
"None..."
"How is it possible to tear a man to pieces and leave no traces?"
"I don't know... I don't wanna think about it."
"Yeah... I feel ya... make sure you don't go home alone by the way, take a friend."
"Yeah I'm not going out at night anymore."
"And this guy..."

Once again my consciousness fades. However this time the darkness does not envelop me. I see a pure white skinned lady, as if she were made of porcelain, approaches me, her lips move but I can hear no words. Her body motions as if she is walking, but she does not get any closer. She is calling to me, but why?

This time, I regain consciousness and my vision returns. The white room is empty minus myself and as I try to sit up, I look down and realize I am strapped into the chair, I am also bathed in a pool of blood. Blinking a few times as my head clears I call for the nurse.

"Nurse! NURSE! Is anyone out there?" I call into the empty room. A moment later a young woman rushes to the door and opens it, peaking her head inside.
"My god you're awake?!?" she stammers as if she just saw a ghost.
"Yeah, I am feeling better, what did the doctor do? Did they help me? Was it a tape worm?"
The woman just stood there pale faced staring at me as if she couldn't believe what she was hearing.
"What? Why are you giving me that look?" I giggled a little trying to break the awkward moment.
"You... you have been in a coma, vomiting blood for over 6 months now. The doctors couldn't do anything but observe your condition..."
"Well I feel fine so it must be over right?"
"Well... sir... don't you feel any different?"
"Uhm..." I stuttered looking at my arms, noticing they were unusually paler than normal. "Well... I could use some sun..."
"No actually... it would be best if you never saw the sun again..."
"What does that mean?" I giggled a little at her extremely odd behavior.
"You're albino... whatever happened to you literally drained your skin of pigment, the sun is toxic to you."
"Oh... well... that's interesting. By the by, can you untie me? Why was I tied up to begin with?" I questioned wrestling with the arm bands slightly.
"Oh yeah sure..." she said coming over to my side and losing the arm bands. "Well... while you were here, you had been screaming during the night at the top of your lungs, when we didn't tie you down you would thrash about and hurt yourself."
"Wow... this... is kind of a lot to take in..." I muttered blinking a few times. As I spoke I accidentally bit my tongue. "Ow..." I muttered and I used my tongue to lick my teeth I realized my front two fangs on the top of my mouth were much sharper, not any longer mind you but definitely sharper. Simply running my tongue along the bottom slit open the top of my tongue. "s**t..." I gasped.
"What's wrong?" the nurse asked as she removed the leg straps.
"Nothing I just... cut my tongue... my tooth is really sharp." muttering the last part as I sucked the blood off my tongue. My tongue was actually bleeding from that, that had definitely never happened before.

This however, was not the only difference. I immediately noticed the blood tasted different. The blood was sweet, very sweet... almost like liquid candy, but not so overpowering. Slowly I became infatuated with sucking on the blood.

"You ok?" The nurse looked at me concerned and I stopped immediately.
"Oh yeah I'm fine, so uhm, what's been going on for 6 months?" I retorted, pretending I had been doing nothing strange.
"Well... nothing good I'm afraid." she said in a rather grim tone.
"What's that mean?" I asked suspiciously.
"Well, recently a serial killer has been on the loose in these parts, people are terrified to go out at night and the police haven't caught him yet."
"Seriously? How is that even possible these days?" I asked as I massaged my wrists which were swollen. Then it dawned upon me 'Shouldn't I have atrophy from not moving for so long?' I wondered but said nothing.
"No idea, nobody sees whoever it is, and the bodies of his victims have teeth marks left all over them as they are torn to pieces."
"Jesus that's brutal, how do you not catch a guy like that?"
"Well, whoever it is has some really unusual luck."
"What does that mean?"
"Well wherever he goes he is followed by a thick fog, and wherever the body is found the fog was the day before."
