Every year we have a Large Group Performance Evaluation, LGPE for short. Chorus/Band kids have it, and we used to call it Festival way back when. But now it's just LGPE. You sing/play (since this is chorus, we will be singing) two different pieces, and get ratings on how well you do. 1 is superior, 2 is good, 3 is eh, 4 is needs improvement, and 5 is basically kill yourself. With your songs, these are the things you get evaluated on: pitch, tone, blend, ensemble, intonation, other. After you sing your two pieces, you are ushered into a room where you are given sight reading materials. And then you are scored there by your practice, how right you sang it, blend, pitch, rhythm, and other. So of course, everyone's goal is to get a 1. But getting a 1 isn't exactly a walk in the daisy field. A 1 signifies that you made 0-1 mistakes. Not everyone walks out with a 1.
This year, we had 4 choruses perform. Ours Mens Chorale (all men), Womens Ensemble (freshman women), Bella Voce (more advanced women who doesn't make it into I Cantori), and I Cantori (highest level audition only class). The scores went like this: Mens Chorale: Stage: 1 Sightreading: 1 Womens Ensemble: Stage: 2 Sightreading: 1 Bella Voce: Stage: 1 Sightreading: 2 I Cantori: Stage: 1 Sightreading: 1
Of course, I'm in the highest level audition only class, so if felt good to get straight superiors. It was a good year at LGPE, and today has been a good day. <3
