later that evening, kakashi had returned from burying the mist ninjas, and found the four at the table
kakashi~i thought I told you guys to stay with ann. Or at least one of you to stay if you could help it
ravi~we did...for a while...
kakashi~what happened?
sakura~she randomly got mad at us. She freaked out more when we tried to restrain her
naruto~it got really bad when me or sasuke grabbed her...it was really weird
sasuke~ann finally pushed away from us long enough to calm down. She wanted us to leave her alone
kakashi~that’s weird...ann’s normally the one to want to be held when she’s upset after a while...where is she now? I want to check on her before I clean up
sasuke~she should still be in our room.
Kakashi nodded and made his way upstairs. He went to the gennin’s room and found ann crying on the bed
kakashi~are you doing any better?
ann~no...something’s wrong with me...
kakashi~what do you mean?
ann~i see images...and hear voices...i don’t understand this any-any more than what zabi said...
kakashi~then let us help
he moved closer to her, but she hit him with a pillow
ann~don’t touch me! I-it only happens when someone t-touches me...
she hiccuped and wiped her eyes
ann~i want it to stop...
she looked up at him
ann~kill me
kakashi~that is not an answer
ann~make the voices stop. Kill me. You can d-do it in a million different ways sensei
kakashi~death shouldn’t even be an option as a way to cope with this. As far as you know this could be an event-based jutsu put on you
ann~the only way out is death
she grabbed his arm and heaved at the emotions that washed over her. Kakashi only watched her steady herself, fearing that if he restrained her she would find a way to hurt herself.
ann~you’ve killed before sensei. Like me
kakashi~I’ve never killed anyone that I’ve cared for!
ann~liar. You killed a teammate. You also caused the death of the other one.
kakashi~you have no proof of that
he tried not to let his mind race to give her any information about his nightmares. He had never shared any of that to ann, and he knew her well enough that she wouldn’t go out of her way to dig up his life either. He was already close to breaking with the few words she said to him, and he was terrified of the wicked grin that crossed her face
ann~friend killer
something in kakashi snapped, and his vision went black. In a split second he shoved ann off using raikiri

downstairs, the team heard a scream, and immediately ran upstairs to investigate. Ann wasn’t moving on the bed, and kakashi had a kunai to his chest, muttering out nonsense in a panic.
ravi~what happened?
kakashi~i don’t know
sasuke~what about ann?
kakashi~i don’t know...I killed her...I shouldn’t...I’m not fit to...
he started to press the knife down
ravi~naruto, sasuke, get sensei out of here and take his weapons. Bring him back to earth
the two were able to pull kakashi out of the room without any trouble. Kakashi continued to stare at ann as he was lead out and his weapons taken. Sakura and ravi went to ann, rolling her on her back
sakura~god...the smell...
ravi~i-it doesn’t seem like it’s lethal. Just a really bad burn
sakura~her breathing isn’t regular. What kind of jutsu did sensei use?
ravi~looks electrical. It happened to me once. Ann will be okay. We just need to clean her up before she gets an infection.

After a while, kakashi was back to his senses. He wiped his eye and stared at his hands
kakashi~have you boys checked on ann?
sasuke~sakura came in. she said that ann has a bad burn. ravi’s clan ointment should help her heal faster
naruto~do you remember what happened?
kakashi~you guys always knew how to press my buttons...but the things she said...it’s not something many people know. Especially at her age. let’s just say certain things will break my control…
sasuke~and she said something to make you lose control
kakashi~yeah. I haven’t come to terms with that particular event yet.
Sasuke nodded, but naruto just stared at them blankly
kakashi~don’t hurt yourself trying to understand. Just know that ann was somehow able to read...my mind...
naruto~I always knew she was a mind reader
kakashi~naruto, any other day you would have been completely wrong
sasuke~so what’s happening to ann? Is that why she freaked out when we touched her?
kakashi~Probably, but if she isn’t dead, then I hope she discovered what zabuza meant about dreaming of them. It was a hint telling me that she is part of a clan
he made a move to get up but sat back down.
naruto~are you okay?
kakashi~i might lose it again if I see her now…until she’s awake, we just need to wait.
The boys nodded
naruto~you still need to clean up sensei. The girls are already done. This way you can keep yourself together and not worry about ann randomly surprising you if she can walk around.
kakashi~heh, you’re right. Thank you, boys, for keeping me in check.
sasuke~you’ll be fine in the bath too?
kakashi~yeah. I’m back to my senses, but the company is appreciated if you’re worried
he got up and headed to the bathroom
naruto~can we? Maybe he’ll take off his mask!
sasuke~just because he invited us to bathe with him does not mean that he will reveal his face to us

ann~everything hurts...
zabuza~it should. What you did was uncalled for and no way to treat you friend and mentor
ann~zabuza?
She wiped her eyes and sat up. Only seeing a white light at first, her vision cleared to show a man standing before her
zabuza~who else would it be? it’s only me for now so you’re not overwhelmed
ann~how can I see?
zabuza~that’s the first thing you question? Your sight?! You nearly died! it’s one thing to play on a person’s psyche to get them to do what you want, but it’s another thing to traumatize a person into forcing them to kill you!
He hit her hard and knocked her down. Ann slowly sat up, not making eye contact with him
ann~so...I’m dead?
zabuza~*sigh* no. kakashi didn’t hit you at full power. He still did enough to cause some damage, but not enough to kill you. you’re very lucky that he pulled back at the last second too
ann just nodded. After a moment longer, she finally looked up to stare at him. Zabuza sighed again and sat beside her
zabuza~i know that it’s hard for you right now, but that’s why you need to let your friends help you. you’re not like me ann. You can ask others for help
ann~why would they help me? I’m not a very good friend.
zabuza~good or bad, you’re still their friend. They love you and want to make sure you’re doing okay with this
ann sighed and nodded
ann~why is it that I can see?
zabuza~don’t know. Could just be that since you’re dreaming things are just manifesting. Must be nice compared to darkness
ann~you still look weird...
he hit her, then held her hand
zabuza~but you know how my chakra feels. Tell me it’s not the same
ann closed her eyes and slowly rubbed her fingers over the back of his hand and focused on his chakra. It was warm, and soothing, just like the way she remembered it.
ann~it’s so weird though. i’m just...
zabuza~yeah. Do you want the explanation of why I’m here now?
Ann~yes please.
Zabuza~the reason ties with the fact that you’re part of a clan, specifically the maboroshis. They deal with two things: memories and death. Memories come first normally. You can look into a person’s mind to see their memories
Ann~but why does that mean I can hear thoughts as well?
Zabuza~thoughts are stored in short-term memory. So, you can hear thoughts in real time as they are being stored.
Ann~that’s…that’s weird…
Zabuza~yeah. Next is death. Since your father’s side of the family comes from another world, you’re able to see the dead through dreams. You’re also able to bring them back to life and you can come back to life too, to some extent that is. You won’t be immortal, and there are a bunch of restrictions too
Ann~you keep saying this is from dad’s side…why are you here then?
Zabuza~figured it’d be easier for you to absorb it if it was just me for now. You’ll meet your parents another time. This still takes some of your chakra. You’ll be okay for today since we used kakashi’s chakra that was pumped into you
Ann~oh…do you know how I can control the mind thing?
Zabuza~auron knew you’d ask. He told me that if you focus enough you can tell if the thoughts are supposed to be private or not. Otherwise, to prevent anyone’s thoughts entering, you can think of a wall to keep it from wondering into your mind.
Ann~okay…I’ll practice when I can. Everyone’s emotions are high, so it gets overwhelming fast
Zabuza~I saw. When you wake up, apologize to Kakashi. What you did was a d**k move.
Ann~I know…he hadn’t completely accepted the events yet…things happened so fast…
Zabuza~yeah. We’re at the limit now. You need all of your chakra so you can heal properly. Eat something before you fall back asleep, and if it isn’t too late, apologize to him
Ann~yes zabi. I love you
Zabuza~I love you too. Go slow getting up.

Ann blinked a few times, her vision no longer there. She groaned at the pain
Ravi~ann? You’re awake!
Sakura~there were a few times we thought you wouldn’t make it
Ann~sorry…is sensei okay?
Ravi~yeah. He hasn’t come to see you yet though. He’s worried that he might go off again if you’re just lying there
Ann~okay. Is there anything to eat?
Skaura~yeah. Dinner should be ready soon. We still need to bandage you though, before you can go down.
Ann~if I’ve been topless this whole time-
Ravi~no, we put a blanket over you in case one of the boys had to be in here. We just couldn’t bandage you without their help and decided to just wait for you to wake instead.
With their help, ann sat up for them to quickly bandage her injury. They helped her put on a shirt next, then made their way downstairs for dinner
Kakashi~girls, you made it to dinner.
Ann~sensei?
Kakashi~hey ann. I’m glad you’re okay
Ann~I’m sorry for doing that to you. That was abusive of my powers that I should have taken the time to understand rather than finding an easy way out
Kakashi~that’s okay. I understand your loss. Come sit and eat first, and then we can talk about your clan
She nodded. The girls sat at the table.

After dinner, the team was in their shared room again. Ann did her best to stay as far away as possible from everyone, so she wouldn’t accidentally bump into them
Kakashi~when you passed out, did you discover anything?
Ann~yes…I met zabuza and he explained some things. He was also mad at me for what I did to you. I’m sorry sensei…
Sakura~how did you meet zabuza? Like he wasn’t a just a figment of your dream?
Kakashi~he was a part of her dream, but it wasn’t a zabuza that her mind created. It was the same zabuza who died tonight
Sasuke~this deals with that clan you mentioned, right?
Kakashi nodded and hummed in response.
Ann~I think zabuza said they were the maboroshis. And dealt with memories and death
Naruto~I was really hoping the mind reading thing wasn’t true…
Ravi~is that why you didn’t want us touching you?
Ann nodded
Sakura~but why did you freak out more when the guys touched you?
Ann~in all honesty, you and ravi haven’t felt the same kind of grief and trauma. They have so much more going on than you two did. I know you do too Rav, but all of your memories doesn’t have any emotional link since you were too young.
The girls looked at their male teammates worriedly, and Sakura eyed Ravi as well.
Sasuke~it’s nothing. I wonder what she knows
Naruto~like there’s anything that bothers me! It’s like you say, I’m too stupid to notice anything! I really don’t like ann knowing that
Kakashi~there’s a reason why we have psych nins at home. They help us cope and teach us how to manage the emotional turmoil. Ann, whatever memories you now know from any of us, do not use it against us. You might not be lucky next time
Ann~yes sensei…I’m sorry…
Ravi~are there methods to control your new powers ann?
Ann~zabuza told me how, but I would need to practice.
Kakashi~sakura, ravi, I want you two to help ann with that. Ann, take your time to learn. If you don’t do it right, you’ll either go crazy or manage to hurt yourself again. Don’t use me or the boys until you’re sure you have the basics under control. Because like you said, we would be too overwhelming. You almost threw up when you grabbed me earlier
Ravi soon grinned and Kakashi hit her
Kakashi~and you guys say I’m a pervert. *sigh* go get some rest guys. We still have a mission to finish
He got up and started to leave but stopped at the door.
Kakashi~if any of you guys need to talk, let me know. Or talk to each other. We’re a team. The job includes emotional support if anyone needs it.
They all nodded as he left.
Sasuke~come on Naruto, let the girls change first so they don’t hog the bathroom instead.
Naruto ran out intending to use it first. Sasuke paused at the door as the girls were taking out their pajamas
Sasuke quietly~please don’t tell them about my clan. They don’t need to know about it.
He saw ann nod before closing the door behind him.
