If ever a tear should happen to fall
And trace a path to your lips;
The very next one I'd try to forestall,
As I touch your frown with my fingertips
And make a smile that reaches your eyes
To show you a love so warm and true.
You'll gaze at me and then I'll return the smile
That I have given to you.
Surely my motives are selfish , I know
Because I hurt when you are in pain.
Only in your loving shadow do I tend to grow
From the seeds that only you could have sown,
It was truly not in vain.
One of these days, you'll turn around
And see the beautiful flower I have become
You gave to me a special part of yourself
And now in my heart
You and I will always be as one.
No matter what life has in store for you
What battles you win or you lose
