It's been...quite a long time, journal. But allow me to explain...and forgive me for the bloodstains marring your pages. This journey through Kengal Pass has not been an easy one for either of us, I'm afraid. The demon attacked the third day in. None of us were ready for it under the cloak of darkness. I barely managed to ward it off with my katana before it came again with more fury, the nasty, disturbing screeches that eminated from its throat as it cruelly tore into me will forever haunt my nightmares. I've never heard anything so ghastly before in my life... Allow me to give you a mental image of the creature. Teeth as long as my forearm jutted from the beast's vile jaws, tipped with paralyzing poison and strong enough to crunch through bone. Huge, black, bat-like wings protruded from its back and shoulders, darker than the darkest night. Its eyes were the most pitiless amber I'm sure I'll probably ever see... Now I know why this demon has recieved the name, "Hellspawn"...it is quite fitting, don't you think? Every time we hear a noise now, we tense up...our hearts beat faster...our swords get gripped tighter... But we're almost there. Almost out of Kengal Pass. We've lost a few men, but not as many as we had originally thought. Perhaps if the demon doesn't attack again, we should be --

Entry 1:
Ah, journal...hello...I don't really know -why- I am writing in you, but...I suppose I could try it out, eh? Let me start with the basics...I am Hector, Hector Valence. Age 18. Born January 15th during the rule of King Ulander. Good with a blade, but not with words... Well, okay...that wasn't too hard...maybe my writing skills will get better as I log my life into you...who knows? At least I'm not illiterate! Now...for the -real- entry... Today I was hired by a rich merchant named Sengo Iyena to protect his caravan from the nasty bat-demon that has been plaguing Kengal Pass for a few years. Apparently, it enjoys eating merchants (according to Iyena, anyway...), so he gave me a LARGE (and by large, I mean...HUGE) sum of money for this job. 'Half now, half later', he said with a chuckle. Of course, he didn't notice how big my eyes had gotten...to think, 100 gold pieces! I could have just turned and RAN when he set THAT into my hands! But no...I'd never do that. I am not so dishonorable as to give a man my word and then go back on it! Tomorrow night we set off for Kengal, the lands to the east. The Pass is a few days away and I shall have to keep my strength up for the journy ahead. The roads to Kengal are notorious for being overrun by bandits...so I'll have to keep a watchful eye out at all times. Wish me luck, journal...or whomever may come to read this, either one...

((Okay, this isn't REALLY his first entry, but here's the bio...)) Name: Hector Valence Age: 18 Height: 6"1' Weight: 157 pounds Occupation: Sword-For-Hire, gets paid by people to protect them or to slay a demon Appearence: Tall, with shaggy black hair and deep blue eyes. Normally wears a long, black leather duster with arm guards and a chestplate Weapons: A Japanese Katana given to him by his Master. Also his fists, as he is a blackbelt in Tae-Kwon-Do Element: Fire Magic: Can control flames somewhat when he gets angry, but not very well... Bio: He doesn't like to talk much, and is very quiet. May appear to be a loner at times, but does enjoy the company of people...sort of. He's really a lot nicer then he looks. Basically, his parents were killed by demons when he was a child and he was taken to an orphanage. He ran from there as soon as he could and was found by his Master, who taught him everything he now knows about life and fighting. When he was old enough, he left without saying goodbye...to become a Sword-For-Hire. ((There...that's my guy, and I'll start his story as soon as I can. ^_^))
