Sunlight, blessed sunlight.
It has become but a fond memory
While I've been stuck behind walls of soaring height.
Am I to breathe it in,
To see its light again,
To feel its rays caress my sun-deprived skin?
Or am I doomed to a fate,
Of terror and pain,
All justified by an unjust hate?
Ah, sunlight, blessed sunlight.
It is now only fantasy,
For I am stuck in eternal night.

Description:
We were learning about the Holocaust in my history class, and this came into my mind.
The story is of Ana Greene, a fifteen-year old Jewish girl, living in Poland in early 1940. She was forced to go into hiding when she was summoned to go to the concentration camps. Stuck in a run-down abandoned building, with no windows, she wishes to see the sun again.
As always, please comment. I appreciate all criticism and thoughts, whether they be good, bad, or otherwise. - Date: 05/08/2009

- I like the premise, but you didn't execute it in a very convincing or interesting manner. There is still substance to the work, but it rings a tune of mediocrity. The imagery is pallid, and the overall implementation could have used more overall direction. Acceptable. 2/5.
