Adventures in Insanity
Chapter 5: Good and Evil
“Lunei-chan!” Lion cried when Lunei fell and quickly caught her before she hit the ground. “Lunei! Lunei, what’s wrong??” Shark and Pohkii ran over as well. “What happened to her??” Pohkii asked worriedly. Lion was shaking lightly. “I don’t know…” he whispered quietly. Shark frowned. “She has a fever…” he murmured after placing a hand on her forehead. Lion cursed under his breath. “I’m gonna take her back to the hotel. We’ll see you guys later.” He murmured. With that, he ran off towards the hotel. “Nnh…” Lion blinked and looked down at Lunei quietly. “Lunei?” he asked softly, trying not to startle her. Lunei’s eyes fluttered open and she looked up at him. “Lion…?” she asked. “I’m here. Just rest.” He said quietly to her as he ran through the streets.
When they got back to the hotel, Lion put her into the bed carefully. “Just sleep…” he said quietly to her, kissing her forehead gently. Lunei blushed furiously and nodded. “O-okay…” she said quietly. “I’m sorry…” “Hm? For what?” he asked. “For being such a burden… First I nearly drown, then I get sick like this…” she said quietly. Lion shook his head. “You’re no burden, Lunei.” he said quietly. “Not in the least. It’s just that… well, if something’s bothering you, you can tell me… I’ll listen…” Lunei blushed bright red and looked away quietly. “But I don’t want to dump all my problems on you…” “You’re not…” Lion promised. “Look, I’ll make you a deal. You tell me what is bothering you and when I’m feeling bad about something, you’ll be the first one I’ll tell. Deal?” he winked at her. Lunei blushed, then smiled. “Deal.” Lion grinned. “So what is bothering you?” Lunei hesitated for a moment. “Well, I’m just thinking about my brother… After I had my… ‘encounter’ with him, I guess I’ve felt uneasy…” she explained. Lion nodded in understanding. “But you’re happy you say him again, right?” Lunei nodded. “Mmhm… I just feel like, maybe that day I should’ve died… not him…” Lion frowned and pecked Lunei’s forehead. “Don’t think like that Lunei… You know that’s not true.” He said softly. Lunei blushed faintly as he continued. “You need to sleep… or else your fever won’t go down…” he said, pulling the covers up to her chin. “I’ll be right here when you wake up.” Lunei nodded a bit nestling into the sheets. “Lion… Thank you…” she said quietly before she drifted off to sleep.
~Hours later~
“She’s not awake yet?” Pohkii asked when she and Shark got back. Lion shook his head. “No…” he said softly, sitting next to Lunei. Shark glanced at Lunei, then shrugged. “We’ll probably be staying here for a day or two…” he said quietly. “Oh, so you feel sympathetic for her now?” Lion mocked. Shark twitched. “Why you…!” “Shh! She’s sleeping!” Pohkii scolded. “Anyway, since we’re staying here for a bit…” she paused, pulling out a piece of paper and shoving it towards Lion with a pleasant smile. “Now if you’ll be so kind.” Lion blinked at the paper. “What is it?” he asked. “Shopping list.” She replied simply. “It would be better if you got some fresh air.” “But…!” Lion started to protest, but Pohkii interrupted him. “We’ll watch her, don’t worry. She’ll be fine.” Pohkii promised. Lion twitched. “But, won’t someone come with me?” he asked. Pohkii blinked. “Well, I’ve gotta watch Lunei so…” Lion pouted, then glanced at Shark. Shark glanced back at Lion for a moment, tension forming in the air. Shark then held up a credit card. “Marlboro red. Filtered.” He murmured. Lion snarled lightly. “I really hate you…”
So, Lion set out to conquer the dreaded shopping list of doom. After he got everything that was on the list, and Shark’s cigarettes, he headed back towards the hotel. “Stupid humans! How dare they treat a king like this!” he yelled, nearly smashing the groceries into the ground, but he restrained himself. “I wish Lunei-chan was awake…” he murmured softly to himself. “Maybe I could…” His voice was drained out by two men yelling at a kid a couple feet away from him. “Ya crashed into me an’ scuffed my shoes! Ye’re gonna hafta make up for that.” One of them said. “Those’re some nice clothes ya got there. Any cash in yer—BUH!” The man was interrupted by a foot going into his face. “There are idiots like you in every town I visit.” Lion growled. “I wish some of you’d develop some shame!” The kid looked up at him with surprised eyes. The boy’s hair was curly, more wavy actually, with wisps of hair that fell over his deep brown eyes. “Hey! You’re dead you damn punk!” the man yelled, running towards him. Lion twitched. “Yeah? I’m in a very bad mood right now. So don’t say I didn’t warn you…”
“Gee, thanks mister!” the boy said, grinning. “No problem…” Lion murmured, sipping at his drink. “You shouldn’t be walking around in clothes like that…” The boy frowned and looked down. “I know…” Lion sighed. “Anyway, what were you doing out here? Lose your parents or something?” The boy frowned deeper to himself. “I lost my parents a long time ago…” he said softly. Lion frowned as well. “I see. So you’re all alone?” The boy nodded. “Well, sorta.” He said. “I have a sister.” Lion smiled happily. “Not too shabby.” He said, ruffling the boy’s hair. The boy giggled in a familiar matter. “So, did you travel here? Are you alone?” Lion blinked. “I came here with some of my… companions…” he replied. “Companions? Aren’t they your friends?” the boy asked. Lion blinked then smiled awkwardly. “Well, ‘friends’ is a pretty strong word…” he said quietly. “I mean, one of them is a vampire who thinks he’s the greatest and he smokes too much, another is a weirdo little girl who is hyper as hell… and the last… well…” he couldn’t bring himself to say anything bad about his princess, Lunei. The boy blinked. “Why are you friends with such bad people?” he asked. “Don’t worry, Mister. I’ll take care of them for you.” Lion blinked. “W-what?”
A little later, Lion got back with the groceries. “Man, I’m gonna get yelled at…” he murmured. But when he got there, it was all too silent. “Hello? I got the groceries. Anybody…” his voice trailed off as his eyes widened. Pohkii and Shark were flung to the opposite sides of the room and there was no sign of Lunei. “Shark! Pohkii! What happened?” he asked frantically. Shark was the only one that stirred. “Shut your mouth…” he growled. Suddenly, Lion was pinned to the wall by Shark’s hand. “I knew we shouldn’t have trusted you! One minute you’re acting as if you’re a friend, the next you’re—“ “Hold up! What are you talking about?!” Lion yelled over him. “You sent a little crony to attack us!!” he bellowed. Lion’s cheeks paled, realizing what had happened. So that kid really did attack them. He hung his head, his lips trembling as he tried to find words to speak. “Well?! Are you going to say anything, traitor?!” Shark yelled. “There’s nothing I can say…” Lion murmured. Shark snarled. “So you’re admitting that you did send someone to attack us?” Lion sighed. “I didn’t send anyone. This weird kid kept saying something about getting rid of the ‘bad people’ and he wouldn’t stop bugging me so I told him where we were staying.” He explained. Shark glared at him. “Why should I believe you? Give me one good reason!” Lion looked at him with sad eyes. “Who else do you have to believe…?” Shark blinked, then let out an aggravated sigh, letting go of Lion’s throat and sitting down on a bed. “So, what do you propose we do?” he asked. Lion paused. “Well… I haven’t really thought about it…” Shark started to pull out his katana, ready to cut off Lion’s head, but he sighed. Think about how Lunei’d feel… stupid sensitivity! I’m going soft! he thought with a growl, shoving the sword back into it’s sheath. “Well, I think we should find where this kid lives…” he finally said. Lion raised an eyebrow. “Eh?” “Well, you want to find Lunei, don’t you?” he asked. “And Pohkii… she seems to have lost her soul…” Lion blinked again. “Lost her soul?” Shark pointed over at Pohkii who was a couple feet away, her open and stunned eyes in particular. Her eyes were cloudy and blank, pupil-less. Lion frowned. What happened to Lunei? Did the same fate fall upon her? Shark stood. “Come on. I know where we could start looking.” He muttered. Lion paused for a moment, then nodded. “Alright, let’s go.”
“At last…” the boy murmured, looking up at an orb that looked like spikes were coming out of it. A girl was being held in the sphere structure. It was hard to see the girl’s face since her hair was falling into her face. “We’ll never be alone again, dear sister…” the boy murmured with a faint grin of insanity. “Sir Benjamin.” A young girl that was about the same age as him spoke up. “One of the bad people… 2 of them actually are coming this way…” Ben frowned. “no… only one of them was bad…” he said quietly. “But what could he want? I took care of the bad people for him…” he glanced back at the girl in the orb again. “He wouldn’t be comeing for you, would he Lizzy?” he asked the, what looked to be soulless, girl. All he got in return was silence.
Ooooo, the plot thickens. Yes, sorry this took so long to write. I had writers block for an extremely long time, but I finally finished. Yay! Hope you all like it. Once again, Lunei is my character. So is Ben. Lion, Shark, and Pohkii are all not my characters >< Anywho, yes, that was chapter 5! Stay tuned for the next chapter!
Everyone: WE’LL BE SEEING YOU!!!
