Surf's Up, Dude!
Alright, so I just went to see Surf's Up! today, and it totally rocked. I think my favorite character was Chicken Joe, an obvious nod to laid-back pothead/surfers everywhere. He was so cool.
Main character, though, is Cody, a penguin from Shiverpool, Antarctica, eager to make in the big time.
He's voiced by Shia LeBeouf
I don't want to give away the entire thing, but there seem to be three plot lines. 1- Cody trying to win a surfing contest. 2- Cody learning the true meaning of surfing, and 3- Cody inspiring his childhood idol to come back to himself. There is also a side plot to do with Chicken Joe and some aboriginal-type natives while he's lost in the forest looking for Cody.
The film is done mostly as a documentary style feature, with times where it becomes more traditionally cinematic. The changes between the two are pretty seamless. To sweeten the deal, the entire movie is completely gorgeous.
Final Eval: 8/10
Quote: "'Chicken Joe, how does it feel to win the Big Z Memorial?' [Joe looks as startled as a pothead can be] 'Whoah, I won? Sweet, Dude.'" (Or at least it was something similar.)
