One day Runa Mikoutsu, age sixteen, had gotten terrible news that her grandmother had gotten ill. Her mother sent her off with a basket of medicine and baked goods. Runa was told to be careful while crossing through the woods, because wolves and bandits hunt within the wood. Runa got dressed in a red dress with a black see-through over layer that came slightly above her knees that her grandmother gave her, along with a hooded cloak made of red velvet. Her grandmother always sent her beautiful clothes and knick-knacks she picked up while traveling.
She grabbed the basket and left towards the woods, ready for anything that would stand in her way, she was a black belt in karate after all. As she entered the woods, she started noticing the wild flowers and little animals. I wish I had my camera with me. She thought to herself. She picked a couple and put them in her basket for her grandmother. As she continued to walk she had an odd feeling that something was watching her.
Runa hears a low growling from behind her, she turned around and saw a pair of glowing eyes staring at her, then another, and another, until there was an entire pack of wolves staring at her. She slowly started to back up, and then a wolf lunged at her, knocking her over, nearly biting her shoulder. She wrestled it off of her and ran, until she spotted a lake, then ran toward it.
When Runa got there, she ran as far as she could into the water and then started to swim across. They won't find a way over here for a while, so I guess I'm safe. She thought to herself, then something up ahead caught her eye. Flickers of red, as bright as... FIRE!!! Runa ran over to see where it was and if any one had gotten hurt, but what she saw surprised her and scared her at the same time.
Her grandmothers village was up in flames, she ran along the streets to see if anyone was alive. She found no one. She ran up to her grandmother's house frightful to go in, but she did. "GRANDMA, WHERE ARE YOU? ARE YOU HERE? GRANDMA?!" Runa yelled frantically. All she found was the burnt remains of her beloved grandmother. She wanted to buckle down and cry where she was standing, but that was stupid, she wanted to live. So she left the burning house gasping for air, running for the woods. She ran to the lake and took a couple drinks to wash away the ashes that had gotten trapped in her mouth, and started to cry.
"So did you like?" Someone said behind her. Silence. "Well be lucky I didn't let them suffer long."
"What are you talking about?" Runa asked confused.
"I did it, I killed the whole lot of them, and if you ask me it was rather amusing." He said sounding amused.
"Why, and who are you?" She asked.
"Why... because I can, it was fun, and quite frankly I hate all humanity. Anyway I'm Skeith, prince of the shadow world." Skeith said coming into the light.
He had long silvery hair, and was clad in black, pants, a long sleeve button up shirt that was only buttoned half way, and a sward that magically floated behind him. He had deep blue eyes and he had some sort of silver clamp on his upper right ear. Everything was made out of materials Runa had never seen before.
"Shadow world? What are you talking about?" Runa asked.
"The shadow world is a world like your own made up of pure darkness. Your world is in the center of two, the world of shadows, and the world of light. Your world is neither dark nor light, it's a gray area where both worlds collide. Everything bad that happens here is caused by us; in the world of shadows, and vice versa. Humans are a disgrace to me, they're good and bad, never just one.... actually there have been some with a pure motive, pure evil, those are the ones I spare."
"So that's your reason for killing that whole village of people? Because we can't live up to your standards?" Runa asked furiously
"Isn't that how your world works? You don't like stuff because you choose not to?" Skeith asked
"So are you going to kill me? Why are you telling me this?" Runa asked a little scared.
"Because you asked, what's your name?" Skeith asked blowing off her first question.
"Runa Mikoutsu. Are you going to kill me?" Runa asked again.
"No Runa I'm not, there's something I like about you, something I like. A pureness, like light." He said calmly.
"I... no way, I'm not like that.... what are you saying?" Runa asked confused.
"I'm saying I like you, I really like you. I've known all about you since you were a child. I guess it's an opposites attract, good verses evil, light and dark thing. I want you, I need you, a light to my darkness." Skeith said looking at her, in her eyes. She looked away. His eyes were too mesmerizing.
"No, no I see where this is going, no, I'm leaving. "Runa said turning away. Skeith grabbed her arm and pulled her toward him.
"You make it seem like you have a choice in the matter. I always get what I want, and I want you." Skeith said to her.
"Let me go!" She screamed.
"Not a chance, I've waited too long for a girl like you, with your spirit. You think you can get away, but you won't. You're scared. I can see it. You know I'm right, and you're scared. I love it, I love you." Skeith said holding Runa steady.
"If you love me then let me go!" Runa pleaded.
"Nice try, but no, I love you too much to just let you go." He said still holding her.
"What about my family? They love me too you know, and I love them." Runa said as she started crying again.
"They'll think you were killed in the fire, or by wolves. They won't have to think there's a way for you to come back to them, because there isn't." He said holding her tight as she cried.
"I hate you!" Runa said looking up at him.
"I know." He whispered, and then he started kissing her. First on the forehead, then down her cheeks kissing what seemed like every tear that slid down her face. He took off her cloak and started striking his fingers through her hair. he moved to her lips, giving he light pecks that sent a tingling sensation through her body. Then making them longer and harder, enjoying every minute of it, making her enjoy every minute of it. She hated him, the way his hands went through her hair, the way his lips felt against his own, and the way she couldn't get away even if she tried.
Then it hit her, why not try? It's not like I'm helpless. Runa then pushed him away from her, and started to kick and punch him. He fell over and she started to run, stumbling over roots, but not stopping. She could hear him behind her, he was mad, then as if nothing could go wrong, it did. She tripped over an overturned tree root, and fell flat on her face. Skeith was right beside her now; he bent down and pulled her up by her hair.
"You just had to run didn't you? Oh, but that was nothing, what really ticked me off was the fact that you hit me. No one has ever hit me and lived to tell the tale." He said letting go of her hair and grabbling on to her right arm. "Don't look at me like that, I'm not going to kill you."
"It's not that, I think I twisted my ankle." Runa said wincing in pain.
"Oh, then sit down." Skeith said pointing to a tree stump. Skeith helped her over and conjured up her cloak, then put it on her so she wouldn't get cold. He used a healing spell on her ankle, and then kissed her. "Forgive me for what I'm about to do, but you deserve it. No one gets the better of me and doesn’t get punished in return, let this be a lesson to you."
Skeith conjured up a silky type rope, and tied her by her hands to a tree branch that hung six feet off of the ground, leaving her to dangle couple inches. He was floating in front of her, with his sward drawn. He flashed it in front of her face, making her close her eyes in fear of what would happen next. He didn't do anything; instead he used it to lift her chin so that she was staring at him.
"You know what, this reminds me of that children’s book, Little Red Riding hood, you being little red, and me the wolf. But this time the wolf is the winner. I hope there's a lesson to be learned here, like never try that stunt again. Or maybe the fact that good doesn’t always triumph over evil. The fact is that you're mine and I won’t let you go. I have won and you have lost, and there is nothing you can do to make me let you go. I love you, and you hate me, but I have a feeling your feelings will change in time. I see it, I feel it, and you can’t fool me. You long for the taste of my lips, and I yours."
Runa knew he spoke the truth, she wanted him like he wanted her, but she didn't want to give in so soon. It's too late for happily ever after, but she was going to have to do the best she could, as his forevermore, in the World of Shadows.
