Linonophobic
I don't have much to say, but I'll say what I do have. ^_^
A Helping Hand
So I went to class this morning despite feeling like s**t, and just didn't go to work. So here I am, bored. So I'm writing a little piece about Morgan, Tobias and a chance meeting. It could be better, but meh. I'm sick - I'm excused.

A Helping Hand

The snow was piling up - cars and pedestrians alike were having problems navigating the white-covered streets. Slate clouds foretold more of the wintery goodness to fall, and many were already digging out the sidewalks with shovels and snow-blowers. Most of the professors let their students out early, knowing that if they didn't there was a good chance their cars would be buried completely later.

Tobias and Morgan were lucky enough to be in one such class. In fact, the entire class had been cancelled completely, which gave them and their friends an entire afternoon to play in the snow like little kids. Unfortunately, Corinith and Aodh had other plans, shooting their own schemes to hell. It wasn't that big of a deal; the twins were fine with it just being the two of them.

But it just didn't have the same "umpf" it would have had with others around - there are only so many snowballs in the face you can take from someone who knows you're every move. So they decided to call it quits much earlier than they would have liked. Besides, they were starting to feel the chill in the air.

It was a daunting walk, but neither particularly wanted to take the subway, and knew that taking a cab was out of the question. And that left walking.

"Check this out, Toby!" Morgan exclaimed, jumping into a snow drift with a laugh, "It goes up to my hips!"

Tobias grinned, pulling his heavy coat closer, "I see that. I bet your pants are gonna be wet in a few minutes if you stay in there."

"Probably, but that's part of the fun!" The currently purple-haired young man exclaimed, jumping up and down in the pile before falling over with a "thump." Tobias continued to grin at him, even when Morgan reached out a hand, grabbed his brother, and pulled him down into the snow with a cackle.

They laid there a few minutes, laughing breathlessly as the snow fell down on them from above, before they saw the hand. Tobias's laughter trailed off as he lifted his head, following the trail of the arm up to an older man, probably in his late sixties, dressed in the attire of a preacher. Morgan, curious as to why his brother's mirth had gone, looked up as well.

The preacher smiled at them, "The weather is dreadful, boys. Do you have somewhere to go?"

The twins sat up, both giving the preacher an appraising look. Something about the man seemed familiar, but they couldn't quite place it. Morgan was the one to answer, "Uh, yes sir, we do. We were on our way home -"

"- but got distracted by this snow drift - "

"- because it goes up to our hips -"

"- and that's nearly 3 feet deep!" Tobias's grin returned, as he patted his brother on the shoulder, "Come on, Morgan. Let's get home before Aodh cleans out the kitchen - I'm hungry."

"Don't remind me, Tobias. He's probably only left the healthy stuff." Morgan made a face, grinning himself. Both stood, discovering that they were only a bit taller than the preacher before them, who's face had shifted into an unreadable expression. "Hey, Mr Preacher, thanks for the concern. Most folks would prolly pass by without a second glance."

The preacher recovered his benign expression, "It isn't a problem. My church is just up the road here, if you'd like to come in for some hot cocoa or to warm up."

Morgan and Tobias exchanged looks and thoughts, deciding that since he wasn't a Catholic priest it wouldn't be a bad idea. He seemed nice enough, in any case. "Sure, why not? I don't really want to walk home yet, anyway."

And so they followed the nameless preacher back to the church. As they entered, a rush of warm hair greated them like a caress. Morgan wanted to exclaim his joy at the warmth, but didn't think it would be appropriate to yell in a church - though he wasn't sure, as neither he nor his brother had ever been church-goers. The was a door off to the side that led to what looked like a conference room, but the high ceilings and impressive woodwork made it seems so much more majestic than that. They sat at the table, looking around in awe. The building was nice, even if it wasn't St. John's Cathedral. They barely noticed when the preacher came back with a tray of warm coffee mugs full of instant hot chocolate, but the smell brought the brother's out of their haze.

"Thanks!" Morgan chirped as the preacher put a mug in front of him. Tobias gave him a nod and a smile. The preacher returned the smile.

"Sir, if you don't mind my asking, could you tell us your name?" Tobias asked, pausing before continuing, "I just ask because I keep calling you 'The Preacher' in my head, and it's starting to sound like a bad action movie."

Morgan grinned, "Hey, that would star Mel Gibson!" before looking down, feeling kind of bad for saying that, "No offense, sir."

The preacher let out a laugh, watching the twins with amusement in his eyes, "None taken, young man. My name is Paul."

"That's my middle name!" Morgan said, clapping his hands together with a laugh. Tobias rolled his eyes.

Paul smiled, "It is a very common name. Unlike your own - Tobias and Morgan, was it? There is a biblical Tobias, in the Old Testament. With the help of the archangel Raphael, he was able to defeat an evil demon. If I remember, it means 'God is good'. And Morgan - it's normally a feminine name, isn't it?"

"Normally, yeah. But it could be a pirate's name!" Morgan cackled a bit, "Arrr!"

Tobias snorted, "Stop being stupid."

Paul the preacher looked between the two of them, a thoughtful expression on his face. They spoke for a while, the preacher asking the occasional non-probing question about their lives, and the twins answering, happy for someone to talk to on such a cold winter's day. They were all silent for a while, the boys finishing their hot cocoa. The clock showed that it was getting late, and Toby and Morgan stood.

"Hey, thanks for the conversation-" Tobias began.

"- and the hot cocoa." And Morgan ended, a beaming smile on his lips.

"It was a pleasure to meet the both of you, Tobias, Morgan." The preacher shook hands with both of them as they stood, "Please, come and visit me again. You're good and lively company for an old nam."

Tobias looked scandalized, "You're not an old man, Preacher Paul!"

Morgan nodded his agreement, "Just a little rough around the edges."

Paul let out a chuckle at that, as he escorted them to the front of the church. He watched with a smile as the boys left, barely out the door before they started throwing snowballs at each other and running.

A older woman, probably about the same age as Paul, came up the stairs and noticed that little smile, "Why, husband of mine, what's the smile for?"

Paul looked at his wife, pride etched in every wrinkle around his lips and eyes, " Darling, I've just met our grandsons," A touch of shame came through as he thought about what he had originally thought his illegitimate grandsons would be like, "And they are fine young men."
